FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images Only 12 hours to the game... Bayern Munich prepare to face reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen in what is set to be the match of the week. As the clash between the two giants nears, Thomas Müller gave some insight into the game from Bayern's perspective in an interview with the official Bundesliga website.Talking about the magnitude of the clash, Müller was full of praise for the champions: “Both teams are amongst the most exciting in the Bundesliga. Internationally, Bayern have been the biggest German team for many years, yet Leverkusen were able to topple us [last season]. You have to tip the hat to them. They broke records, but it is less about the records and more about the way they surpassed them. Given how Leverkusen play, the individual players they have and how they operate as a team, you know that every meeting with them will be really tough.”When asked whether Leverkusen's recent success and Bayern's failure last season would act as additional motivation, Müller replied affirmatively."Yes, we are more motivated this year. The last years, when it wasn’t working, we were not bothered. You can interpret that as there being less motivation, but we always had enough. Honestly, there has never been a season in recent years – other than the sextuple campaign under Hansi Flick – where we were really satisfied with our overall performance. Still, the motivation was always there, just on a different level."Müller wasn't oblivious to surreal number of late goals Leverkusen have scored to salvage points — even hinting that this upcoming clash could meet a similar fate: “Not only can they play good football, but they can also suffer. They never give up - the amount of late goals they score is crazy. Whenever they need something, they knock at the door until someone opens it, and there always seems to be someone who can provide the crucial moment. That's why I think this match will be exciting until the very end.”When asked about how Bayern plan to win, Müller presented a variety of options for Bayern's success: “We can approach this game in many ways. For example, should we concentrate on stopping their key players? Or should we focus on ourselves and our own tactics as we instead look to dominate the opponent? As a team, we will use the remaining hours and days to work on our strategy. With there being no midweek game, both teams have no excuses, and we therefore have plenty of time to prepare. The two teams are in good form and have already scored many goals - from a neutral's perspective, that is what we want to see. Of course, I would be down for us finding the back of the net more often [than them]”Müller's no excuses mentality will be important for Bayern if they want to come out victorious this game. Fans will hope that if Müller gets game time, he will put on another brilliant display as he has multiple times this season. What do you think about Müller's thoughts on the game? Do you agree with him? What are your predictions for the game? Tell us everything in the comments below!

FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Time to beat the one-team league allegations. Last season, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side set a first for being the only team in Bundesliga history to avoid defeat over the course of the season. That will be hard to repeat, and Die Werkself finally lost at Leipzig, but Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is aware of the threat posed by the other clubs.“In terms of what Leverkusen achieved last year, I can relate to what they’ve experienced with some of the successes I would have had as well as a player and as a coach in the season we had in the Championship,” the Belgian said (via Bundesliga’s website). “What I’m trying to say with this is that I think it would be completely naive for us to assume that they cannot repeat it. I think we have to prepare ourselves for another 90-plus point season from the competition. So, that means that there are 20 points somewhere that we have to find next season to be champions. I think it would also be a little bit disrespectful for us to assume that they’re not going to do it again. I think our benchmark has to be that we have to be above that.”Despite Leverkusen’s historic season, Bayern still hold the record for most points in a single league season (91 in 2012/13). The Bundesliga’s size allows a maximum points record of 102, but it’s unlikely that any club will ever go the whole season winning every single game.

189. Munich Oktoberfest Photo by Stefan Puchner/picture alliance via Getty Images It’s a new dawn in Bavaria. Bayern Munich sure feels like it got its man in the end.New head coach Vincent Kompany is off to a storming start in Bavaria and the early reviews are in — and glowing — for his on- and off-field work.“Vincent is an incredibly empathetic person,” board member for sport Max Eberl said in recent remarks captured by Sport1 (via @iMiaSanMia). “He feels football with every ounce of his being. He has a clear vision of how he wants to play football, that’s what we need today. From a human perspective, he knows how to deal with the players, how to accurately communicate his ideas — active football, aggressive pressing, a lot of man to man and taking risks. That maybe wasn’t the case recently at Bayern. He holds a lot of long, intensive talks with the players.” Whatsapp-gate? More like what’s up with the hate, amirite? Sounds like the Bayern bosses are totally thrilled with their new hire, and that everything from play style to communications style in the locker room has been a distinct departure from what came just before him.Not to name any names.

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images Manuel Neuer’s international career could turn into the Abe Simpson meme… Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer made the tough decision to retire from international football and turn his full focus to his health and club career.Almost immediately, the German national team was struck with a devastating blow when Neuer’s successor — FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen — suffered a major knee injury and will miss the next eight months.Speculation already has mounted on whether or not Neuer will consider returning to Germany, but Bayern Munich sporting director Christophe Freund indicated that he was not sure if that kind of move was in the cards for the goalkeeper.“It’s his personal decision. He’s very happy, is in good form and hopefully now fit again. We haven’t spoken about it,” Freund said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). The decision for Neuer might be more difficult if the World Cup was this summer, but 2026 still seems so far away — maybe even far enough out for Neuer to think staying retired might be the best option for his career.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the latest Bayern Munich news? Bayer 04 Leverkusen v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images A familiar face will do battle with Bayern Munich… Former Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has experienced wild success as manager of Bayer Leverkusen so early in his coaching career. After dethroning his former club last season in the Bundesliga, Alonso knows Saturday’s tilt is one of the most anticipated battles for his team during the 2024/25 campaign. “It’s a big game. Going to the Allianz Arena is probably the toughest game of the Bundesliga season. But we’re looking forward to it. We want to play well and be competitive. We know we need an almost perfect performance to take something out of the Allianz Arena. We’re ready for that,” said Alonso (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “They’re having a very good start to the season. They’re playing with a lot of energy and quality. The influence of Vincent Kompany has been good so far. It’s a big challenge for us tomorrow. We need a lot of concentration for 90 minutes and to be ready for all situations.”It appears that both squads are poised and ready to go. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images The big one: Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen is almost here... Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany will oversee his squad’s first major test of the season when the Bavarians square off with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. “It’s good that everyone is looking forward to the game. Of course it will be an important game against the best team of the past twelve months. We’re looking forward to it. It won’t always be easy. We want to compete against a strong opponent in the Allianz Arena. Bayern are always the favourites. We want to win,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The next game is what counts in football. If you’ve performed well, you need to keep going. We’ve scored 20 goals in the last three games, but it’s my job to show what we can do better. Anything is possible in a game like against Leverkusen. We’ll prepare the team to perform to their max on Saturday. Then we move on to the next one.“If you approach a game against Kiel or Bremen just like you do a game against Leverkusen, that shows good mentality. If you then do something different before facing Leverkusen, then you’ve lied. What counts is the next game. We want to go into the game with 100%.”Kompany did not delve too far into what he might be cooking up to square off with Bayer Leverkusen, but insisted that the outcome probably has less to do with him and would be more about how players perform. “I’ve already said before that when I played against the best Bayern teams in the past, we had good players, but we still didn’t have the feeling we could have the ball. FC Bayern always wants to be as dominant as possible. Our team’s attitude must always be that we want to be dominant. If a team manages to stop us from that, they deserve big respect. It’s key that it’s a home game for us. We want to show our best,” Kompany noted. As for some of the injuries that Bayern Munich has experienced of late, Kompany was straight forward on the status of Mathys Tel, but less clear on Manuel Neuer. “(Tell will) be available tomorrow. We have a team with a lot of competition. That’s good. It’s always about what we see in a player. We believe in Mathys Tel. He has great talent,” said Kompany. “Manu is training. We’ll make the final decision tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll have everyone available and can pick the best team for the game.”Finally, Kompany touched on his center-back pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, which has had success this season — but also has not been tested all that much. “We didn’t allow a single chance against Bremen. That’s not just down to the defense. We need to do everything as a team. We’ve done that very well in the last few games. I have a lot of trust in the squad,” Kompany remarked. Manchester City FC v Arsenal FC - Premier League Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images Imagine Erling Haaland, Jamal Musiala, and Florian Wirtz all playing for Bayern Munich... There has been a lot of speculation about what Bayern Munich might be doing with its squad planning in the comings months — especially heading into the 2025 summer transfer window. There are two steps that the Bavarians are — allegedly — looking to achieve for 2025: Sign Jamal Musiala to a contract extension. Sign Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz (and spend nine figures in doing so). Per the latest rumors, this is what Bayern Munich is aiming to do to set itself up for the 2025/26 campaign. The Bavarians are seeking to bring together Germany’s top two talents on one club. It is not inconceivable for Bayern Munich to make those two things happen. Assuming that Bayern Munich can win a trophy this season or next, that will also put Harry Kane entering the final season of his deal in the 2026/27 campaign. Achieving his goal could allow Kane to start to think about a return home. Undoubtedly, the Bavarians would like to get something in return for Kane if he is planning on returning to England a year early. If Kane wins a title, he will see his time in Germany as productive, worthwhile, and successful — and maybe start to think about a move back to the Premier League. Manchester City FC v Arsenal FC - Premier League Photo by James Gill - Danehouse/Getty Images Could Bayern Munich be a contender for Erling Haaland in 2026? Ever the family man, that should give Kane the incentive to return to England as a conquering hero and also allow him the opportunity to chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League career goal-scoring record. Should Bayern Munich look to hold on to him to play out his deal — or should the Bavarians let him waltz back to England a year early and turn its attention to acquiring a younger striker to team with Wirtz and Musiala (if Bayern Munich lands the Bayer Leverkusen star in 2025)?It might not be that difficult of a decision at that point — but who should Bayern Munich pursue if it finds itself in that position? How about Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, whose contract also ends in 2027 — making it the perfect time to re-tool the striker position with a younger, more explosive center-forward. I know...I know: “They already tried this three years ago!”This time, it might just be different. Bayern Munich would be surrounding Haaland with two of the premier playmakers in Europe, plus what will assuredly be a strong cast of characters designed to support that haymaker-throwing attacking group. Real Madrid, Haaland’s top destination, is already tied up with too many high maintenance attackers (and it is unlikely we see any of them leave by that point). FC Barcelona is a threat (especially with Robert Lewandowski being close to aging out), but finances are always an issue for the Catalans. So...why not Bayern Munich for the big Norwegian? It could work if the Bavarians are financially equipped to make it happen. The club missed on Haaland once when it was caught between keeping Lewandowski and starting over with someone new. To become the most dominant team in Europe, it cannot miss on another chance to get Haaland. It might seem like a stretch think about a trio of Haaland, Musiala, and Wirtz leading Bayern Munich, but damn, it sure is nice to dream isn’t it?Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 4, Episode 11Bayern Munich has a massive game ahead with Bayer Leverkusen, but there is so much going on with this squad that we have plenty to discuss. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Eberl feels Kompany has exactly all the right traits to lead this Bayern side. Bayern Munich is off to a flying start under new manager Vincent Kompany, having won all five of their competitive matches across all competitions thus far. Coming in to the job, there was always going to be added pressure for the Belgian after the Rekordmeister went without a piece of silverware under Thomas Tuchel last season for the first time in over a decade, though they were very close to making it to the Champions League final at Wembley. With a fair amount of business done during the summer transfer window, Kompany has all of the right tools in place to get Bayern back on track this season, and he has already had to navigate through injuries to Hiroki Ito, Josip Stanišić, and most recently, Sacha Boey. Even with the injuries to key defensive players, Bayern has only conceded three goals throughout the entire season thus far, one of which was a penalty in the 3-2 win at VfL Wolfsburg. By stark contrast, on the other end of the pitch, they have been able to tally 15 goals from all of their matches thus far.Board member for sport Max Eberl has recently doubled down on the stance that Kompany was never the front office and board’s sixth or seventh choice to replace Tuchel. There were certainly other names mentioned and other candidates both linked and approached with the job, but Eberl explained how he feels the former Burnley boss ticks all the right boxes. “He’s good for FC Bayern. He knows exactly what he wants and doesn’t let himself be influenced by what’s happening on the outside, although it’s always hectic around FC Bayern. He’s also great from a human and empathetic point of view. Bayern have been somewhat static recently, so we wanted to change something and bring something new. Vincent showed with his playing style in Burnley that he can do that. This activity, this energy, defending high up, that’s what we saw in the first few weeks and should continue to manifest in the next months,” Eberl enthused on BR24 in the buildup to the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb (via @iMiaSanMia). The upcoming fixtures list to round out September and head into October both before and after the next international break will perhaps be the real litmus test for Kompany. Across all competitions, Bayern will essentially be playing a match every four to five days for a large stretch of time. A lot can happen with such a packed schedule.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Jörg Schüler/Bayer 04 Leverkusen via Getty Images It’s finally time — Bayern Munich vs, Bayer Leverkusen! Bayern’s interest in Wirtz is peaking (CaughtOffside)There will be many things to watch during Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga showdown with Bayer Leverkusen, but one player who many fans will have their eyes on is Florian Wirtz. In recent days, Bayern has been very closely linked to acquiring Wirtz during the 2025 summer transfer window. Here is the latest: Bayern Munich are keen on bringing Bayer Leverkusen talent Florian Wirtz to the Allianz Arena next summer but the German giants will face strong competition from Man City and Real Madrid. The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most exciting talents and has developed rapidly ever since making his debut for the Bundesliga champions in 2020.Last season highlighted the midfielder’s importance to Leverkusen as the youngster played a huge role in Xabi Alonso’s team winning the league and cup double in Germany. Wirtz featured in 49 matches, scoring 18 goals and assisting a further 20. Despite a contract at the BayArena until 2027, several clubs had an eye on the German international during the summer transfer window, but the 21-year-old opted to remain with Leverkusen for at least another season.Reports linked Man City, Real Madrid and Liverpool to Wirtz and it looks like two of these remain interested in the midfielder ahead of the 2025 windows. There is a possibility that Wirtz could leave Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 and knowing this, Bayern Munich have become interested in the German midfielder.Mudryk looks likely to leave Chelsea (Football Insider via 90Min.com)Chelsea FC attacker Mykhailo Mudryk looks like he is going to need a change of scenery. The Bayern Munich whizkid is also a target for Real Madrid heading into the 2025 summer transfer window. However, Pep Guardiola is ready to “do everything” to ensure the Premier League champions beat Los Blancos to the signature of the 21-year-old prospect.Real Madrid’s interest in Jamal Musiala is understandable. When Bayern Munich decided to move on from Thomas Tuchel last season, most of the attention generated for the club’s coaching search was focused on Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who has transformed Die Werkself into a juggernaut. Alonso ultimately decided to stay put and the Bavarians hired Vincent Kompany. Even with that kind of history, Kompany is not feeling the pressure to prove anything.“No, not at all. My motivation is that Leverkusen were champions last season and are now coming to the Allianz Arena. We’re top of the table and have the chance to do something for our fans. It’s completely normal in this business to have candidates for the job. It’s not about having any kind of ego. Not at all. I’m here for the team. I’m having great fun here. I work very hard and want to earn everything. Everything else isn’t important to me. I like to see others have success when they get the maximum out of themselves, because I know how tough it is. I want to do my thing and will do all I can for it,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “As a coach you always look to see who is doing something new, something special. And (Alonso) did that with his team last season. That’s what makes the game interesting. They’re coming here, we get the chance to compete. That’s when football can become special.”Kompany’s start to this campaign has been special, but it needs a signature victory. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images The Raumdeuter is adapting his game and carrying on. It is not easy to age gracefully in football, but Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller seems to be doing a fine job. Now in a largely substitute’s role under first-year Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, Müller is flexing his influence through an active leadership role off the field — while also showing that when he gets his chances, he can still bring the fire on it.Through it all, the 35-year-old remains upbeat. “Generally good,” Müller said in a recent interview with Bundesliga.com, reflecting on his performances in 2024/25 so far (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Personally, I’m in a good mood and, although I haven’t picked up too many minutes so far, I’ve still been involved in every game. “I have tried to use the time I get as well as possible, both for my team and for myself. As an attacking player, you want that feeling of scoring or assisting a goal and just making the most of every second. But if I’m being honest, we have many great individual players up front. For those four attacking positions we have 8, 9, even 10 candidates who each have different qualities and can contribute. The competition never sleeps. Nevertheless, I am still in a good mood and we have a lot of important weeks up ahead. It’s just really fun right now.”Many players, especially in the attacking midfield position, have fallen off the map late in their careers, responding with bitterness or forcing their way out of the team. Müller, though, looks like he is going to be riding off into that Bavarian sunset — beloved and involved to the last.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend? Bayer 04 Leverkusen v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images The two most recent German champions face off this Saturday in a match that could already define the season. All eyes will be on Bavaria this Saturday as Bayern Munich takes on Bayer Leverkusen in an early-season chance to reassert its claim on the German throne.Last season, the Bavarians fell apart as Xabi Alonso led Leverkusen to an invincible domestic season — posting the sort of record no team would have had the chance to match. But just who is the underdog in this one? After Bayern’s strong start under new head coach Vincent Kompany — and Leverkusen’s early-season stumble in a 2-3 loss to RB Leipzig — the defending champions know they cannot simply approach this one as favorites.“This is a Champions League opponent,” Leverkusen leader Granit Xhaka said this week in the lead-up to the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That’s what the coach told us today. We obviously know how much potential Bayern have and what new ideas the new coach — Vincent Kompany — will bring to their game. “We have of course analyzed their games and you can see that a lot of things are working very well. Almost every shot is a goal for them. Their attack is very strong and they concede fewer goals at the back. It’s definitely going to be a top game and we’re ready for it. A game in Munich against Bayern is always special and we are looking forward to it.” Can Leverkusen fend off this energetic Bayern attack?Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend?
