FC Bayern Munich v WSG Tirol - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Talk about instant impact Adam Aznou arrived at Bayern Munich as a promising player from FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. Fans of the club were intrigued as to how the 18-year-old’s career path will look like with the Bavarians, and he has just made a massive step with a Man of the Match performance in Morocco’s 1-0 win over Lesotho. Speaking to a rare interview with @Lions_talk, an account that specializes in promoting Moroccan youth players, Aznou said that he got his confidence from simply enjoying himself when playing.“Well, that’s my style of play,” Aznou said. “I always try to enjoy myself on the field, whether it’s my first time or any moment I step onto the field, especially if I’m around good players who inspire a lot of confidence.”Aznou indeed got praise for his performance and was greeted with congratulations and words of advice at full time. “All my teammates congratulated me and enjoyed the moment with me after the game. The coach and the president also congratulated me and told me to keep working hard and to keep my feet on the ground.”

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The philosophy behind that 9-2 demolition Vincent Kompany may not have been Bayern Munich’s first choice to fill the manager position, but it is clear that the Belgian is leader and knows what he is doing. Speaking about what inspires his leadership skills, Kompany touched upon where he draws his strength as a leader from, and what it means to be a leader, captured by @iMiaSanMia.Kompany on what makes a great leader: “It would be to be able to put the team before yourself. Very simply. It’s easy to say, it’s not very easy to do. I was fortunate to be in an environment with a lot of reference points, a lot of leaders. I was lucky to play with Patrick Vieira, Frank Lampard, who were leaders at their clubs for many years, but I also had coaches who were good leaders. Then I also had my parents. And you draw a little bit from everything, but the closest thing to leadership for me will always be what is closest to you, and that remains in everything I try to do. “You earn trust and respect just by trying to be honest, saying what you think, when you think it. A ‘say what you mean and mean what you say’ type of attitude. You might not always get popularity with it because, as a manager, it’s not necessarily possible to always be popular, at least not in the short term.”It seems that Kompany has the right idea of what it means to be a good leader, and has had the right training leading up to his career at Munich. Kompany on developing his leadership skills: “You have different phases in leadership. During my time at Man City as a captain, I probably evolved with it as well – the captain I was in my first phase was not the captain that I was in my last phase. It comes with age, maturity.”You transition much more from when you do things for yourself, and you want to be a leader, the strongest, the fastest, the most aggressive, the most important in the team. Whereas when you get a little bit older, you want to be the one that makes everybody around you better, you want to be the one that calms everything down, or that motivates everyone, and I think that transition happens even in your leadership.”Kompany perfectly captures how leadership evolves over time, shifting from a self-focused to a team-focused mindset, and how his journey reflects the natural growth in leadership that comes with experience and wisdom.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Bayern Munich is prepping to face Aston Villa. Barca eyeing Coman again (The Hard Tackle)FC Barcelona is reportedly going to take another look at Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman: Barcelona will reportedly look to sign Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich next year, with the Bundesliga giants valuing the French attacker at €40 million.According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Kingsley Coman is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to dip their toes in the market for a wide attacker next year. So, the Bayern Munich forward has emerged as a target, with the Bundesliga giants valuing the French international at around €40 millionBarcelona mulled over signing Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window before a move failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Frenchman is understandable, considering Ferran Torres faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club heading into the 2025 summer transfer window.Coman can also be a top-notch addition to the Barcelona squad even if Torres remains at the club. The 28-year-old Bayern Munich attack will not cost a bomb, with the Bundesliga giants demanding around €40 million to part ways with the serial winner.Barcelona should have the funds to afford a deal worth €40 million for Coman next year, especially if Frenkie de Jong’s spell ends. It will be interesting to see if the French serial winner continues his journey with Europe’s top clubs by joining Barcelona.Coman is — surprisingly — getting decent playing time thus far with spot starts and consistent sub appearances. Is this because Bayern Munich wants him to stay or because the club wants him to showcase himself for a January move?Frimpong on LFC’s radar (Football Insider via 90Min.com)Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong did not do much to impress against Bayern Munich on Saturday, but is drawing interest from Liverpool FC: The Reds are also considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong if they lose right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold next year. NUFC has an idea of how far it will go for Sané (Football Insider)Leroy Sané has not yet made his mark at Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany, so it has some other clubs keeping a close eye on him — including Newcastle United: Newcastle United will be contenders in the race to sign Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich, but only if they qualify for next season’s Champions League. Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains very well-connected within the game, insisted the Magpies must offer European football to stand a chance at landing Sane’s signature. The 28-year-old has just ten months remaining on his current contract at the Allianz Arena and has attracted interest from multiple clubs ahead of the January window. Foreign clubs will be able to negotiate a deal with Sane from January to bring him in on a free, placing Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, among others, on high alert. While the Magpies will be capable of matching the wages and financial packages on offer from Europe’s elite clubs, they will also need to prove they can offer the level of competition he is looking for.It is said that Sane wants to continue playing at the highest level to solidify his place in the Germany setup and is unlikely to take a step down. Now, Robinson has insisted the Magpies will push hard to get a deal over the line, but the conversation cannot start unless they qualify for the Champions League.“I’m surprised Bayern have let him get within ten months of his contract expiring,” he told Football Insider. “When a player goes that far without any negotiations starting you would expect him to move on to pastures new. I think Leroy Sane, with his reputation, what he’s done and who he’s played for, with no disrespect, would be looking to play Champions League football if he is to move on.“He’s going to want…

Bayern Munich have announced via their official website that they have renewed the contract of Younes Aitamer. The 21-year-old German-Algerian dual citizen is a part of Bayern II, the Bavarians’ U-23 team, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in the Regionalliga match against 1. FC Schweinfurt has seen him ruled out since March of 2024. Nevertheless, Bayern saw it fit to renew the talented midfielder. Bayern Campus director Jochen Sauer explains why:“Younes was about to take the next step in his development, but was then slowed down by the cruciate ligament injury. With this contract extension, we want to express our full support to him and also give him the time he needs to return to his old level of performance. We wish him all the best on his way back to the pitch.”This follows a recent trend of Bayern renewing young players like Moritz Mosandl and Gabriel Maršić stricken with long term injuries, with the intent to show them support during such a difficult period in their professional career. On one hand it is a very welcome gesture, but on the other one does start to ask why the club is dealing with so many long term injuries.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the latest Bayern Munich news? Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images I wonder what Uli will have to say to that... Lothar Matthäus has a reputation for going public with some questionable opinions, most of which criticized by Uli Hoeneß, but he recently made a statement that Bayern Munich fans can be on board with. Jamal Musiala’s contract runs until 2026, and clubs have already begun eyeing the German youngster to fight for his signature. However, Lothar Matthäus wants Bayern to ‘go all in’. “FC Bayern must have no limit with him. They have to go all in and get the sponsors on board as well. Give him a lifetime contract,” said the former Bayern and Germany player (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Uli Hoeneß can’t possibly find anything wrong with this. Musiala has time and again proven that he is a generational talent, and is one of Bayern’s biggest assets. Letting him go would be a bigger mistake than losing Robert Lewandowski, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui combined. According to reports, Bayern is positive that they can extend Musiala’s contract, despite the demands he had for them. However, there is still always the risk of losing him to a bid from a club abroad. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the latest Bayern Munich news? FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images The chef has officially paid dues to the wrong side of karma. Bayern Munich played a fantastic match against Bayer Leverkusen, but struggled to find opportunities in front of the goal. The best chance occurred in the 48th minute when Serge Gnabry one-timed a cross but was cruelly denied by the far post. The ball bounced directly to Gnabry who slammed the subsequent shot off the crossbar. In his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Gnabry said, “It’s a pity that neither of my two shots went in. We played against a top team today and we can be satisfied with our game, we had it largely under control. It was great that we came back after being 0-1 down. It’s a pity that it wasn’t enough to win in the end.”Despite the unlucky misses that would’ve completely changed the trajectory of the match, the positivity in Gnabry’s response is fantastic to see. Vincent Kompany has reinvigorated the culture at Bayern and will pay dividends in the long run.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen? Netherlands v Germany - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Joris Verwijst/BSR Agency/Getty Images Vacancies opened up — can he fill them? Germany recently saw some of its biggest stars retire from the game, particularly Toni Kroos and İlkay Gündoğan. The two midfield giants left extremely large shoes to fill in their wake, and it’s up to the younger generation to fill them in. Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović is one of those youngsters, and his prowess in the midfield has been put on display multiple times. However, the question that arises is whether or not Pavlović will indeed replace the two giants. In a recent interview, he was asked where he saw himself in the newly opened up vacancies on the squad. “In the end, the coach will always make the decisions. I will work hard on myself every day; we will see what happens,” said Pavlović in response (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).The mentality is there, but the optimism? Perhaps it was simply a vague answer to avoid controversy surrounding Julian Nagelsmann’s squad choices. Either way, Pavlović has proven on more than one occasion that he is capable of taking that spot on the field, and experimenting with the new opportunities that arise with the retirements. FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images English weeks are here. Bayern Munich gave it all it could muster against Bayer Leverkusen but could not find a way against last season’s Bundesliga champions. The two top teams in the Bundesliga split honors even at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, a match which demanded the utmost in focus and attention from the Bavarians all week. Now that it is over, though, it is simply on to the next task. For Vincent Kompany and Bayern, that is the Champions League. Yes, that’s right: English weeks are here again. The Leverkusen tilt had huge implications but the stakes only get higher from here. “I haven’t thought about England and the Champions League yet, that will start tonight,” the Bayern head coach said in his post-game press conference on Saturday (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’ll be a very good game for our fans. Aston Villa haven’t been in the Champions League for 20 or 30 years I think. It’ll be special. But so far it was only about Leverkusen. From tonight we’ll talk about Aston Villa.”Can the Bavarians welcome Villa back to the UCL with a bang?Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen? FC Bayern Munich - Bayer 04 Leverkusen Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images “Attitude reflects leadership, Captain”-Remember the Titans Bayern Munich has started the Vincent Kompany era with consistent and improved play across the board. Kompany has tinkered with a few different positions, however he has primarily relied on Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae as the center back pairing. Eric Dier has been received the short end of the stick but has been the ultimate professional in support of his younger teammates. Upamecano and Kim have already earned the trust of the new manager, a former center back himself.Following the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, Kim spoke with Az journalist Kilian Kreit (via @iMiaSanMia). Kim said, “[Kompany] explains to the players what he wants in much more detail. Because the whole team is playing well, I can play well, too.”Kim’s praise of Kompany’s excellent communication skills has a been a recurring theme in interviews. In his first season with Bayern, Kim had a very up-and-down 2023/24 campaign under Thomas Tuchel. Kim is still adjusting to life in the Bundesliga, but he looks more confident and certain of his responsibilities.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen? Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Pop-up Shop in Shanghai Gojo and Geto definitely read BFW | Photo by Costfoto/NurPhoto via Getty Images Mia San Specialz (why did I type that) Now that Jujutsu Kaisen has officially sputtered to a halt, we can explore a question that no one in the Bayern Munich fanbase has thought to ask (or cares about). If you took the players on the current squad and matched them with their closest equivalents from the manga, what would you end up with? Context: Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga series written by Gege Akutami and published in Weekly Shonen Jump since March 2018. It is absurdly popular — you can be sure that even in the Bayern Munich squad, a player like Sacha Boey (who’s actually an anime fan) has at least heard of it. The manga recently concluded with its final chapter on 29 September, 2024, which prompted the creation of this article. You can read the whole manga online officially via Mangaplus or Viz. For the sake of brevity, we won’t cover every single player in the 26-man Bayern Munich squad in this article. Frankly, Jujustu Kaisen was so light on characterization, that finding twenty-six proper counterparts for the entire squad would be a tough ask. Instead, here are some of the major highlights, plus bonuses. Manuel Neuer — Ryomen Sukuna The greatest keeper of all time, a man who has won almost every trophy in world football, and has been around for what feels like forever. As far as Jujutsu Kaisen concerned, there is no one in the series who fits him better than the main antagonist himself, Ryomen Sukuna. Even after everything is said and done, Sukuna lives up to his billing as the strongest in history. During the last arc of the series, the Shinjuku Showdown, he ran a gauntlet consisting of most of the other characters on this list, back-to-back without a break, and almost came out on top. Some of it was a little contrived, narratively speaking (“World cutting slash”, seriously?), but the character’s sheer overwhelming presence in the manga cannot be denied. Almost everyone tried, but no one could stand up to him. Not on their own. The alternative choice for this spot was Tengen, but honestly Tengen was such a terrible character that it seems like an insult to compare Manuel Neuer to her. Let’s move on. Sacha Boey — PandaYes, JJK has an intelligent, talking panda as one of its characters. Is this explained? Yes, extensively, in great detail. Does it have any effect on the plot? Uhhh ... The thing is, Sacha Boey just got here, and he’s not had a chance to make a meaningful impact on the squad as of yet. Panda, early on in the series, seemed like a quirky inclusion in a colorful cast of characters, but aside from his early fight with Mechamaru, he never actually participated in the action. From the Shibuya Incident onwards, his presence in the series was negligible at best. Unlike Panda, whose legacy is set following the completion of the manga, Boey has time to turn things around. Maybe, if we revisit this list in a year’s time, we could pick someone new for him. Dayot Upamecano — Fushiguro Megumi Media The fact that this starts with a Reddit slander meme should really tell you all you need to know. Dayot Upamecano has all the talent in the world. His attributes should make him the perfect center-back. He has pace, physicality, height, exceptional technical ability on the ball, and is perfectly suited to a high-intensity, pressing based system. Despite all of this, in big games, the Frenchman was more of a liability to his team than an asset. After his performance against Manchester City in 2023, and the numerous other high-profile gaffes since, Bayern Munich fans cannot bring themselves to trust him. This earns him the dubious honor of being comparable to Fushiguro Megumi, the series deuteragonist. Introduced as early as chapter one, Megumi was instantly hyped up by Gege as a truly exceptional talent. Blessed with the Ten Shadows technique, one of the best cursed techniques in the series, plus the innate talent to perform a Domain Expansion (an…

Former Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthäus is not one to hold back when it comes to his old team. But Matthäus is a lot more optimistic these days now that the Bavarians are led by Vincent Kompany. And Matthäus went as far as to express disbelief that former coach Thomas Tuchel could ever have been hired — especially after Tuchel’s stints at Chelsea FC, Paris Saint-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund all featured the same frictions he again exhibited in Munich. What is the difference? Matthäus elaborated at length in recent comments captured by Sport Bild.“Kompany is looking for internal discussions, not public ones,” Matthaüs explained (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The players like that. Before, they were criticized publicly, they were too bad for Bayern Munich. If I had heard ‘This is not a Matthäus game’ in the past, I would have asked the coach if he was crazy. Thomas Müller dealt with it in a better way. There are players with eight league titles like [Joshua] Kimmich and then I’m looking for a holding midfielder. There are coaches who want to change everything, which is actually good, I think Thomas Tuchel was one of them. Kompany took all the players on his journey like Alonso did in Leverkusen. I often said that I miss the Mia san mia feeling, that wasn’t FC Bayern, that family. They changed it, now the fans say: This is our FC Bayern again, it’s fun to go to the stadium again.“The players have a sense of security now and would go through fire for the coach. The players did not feel free under Thomas Tuchel. I have nothing against Tuchel, and it’s not about having a different opinion at the table. But that didn’t work out with Bayern Munich. We knew that beforehand. It’s not as if Bayern didn’t see what problems he had in Dortmund, in Paris, and what problems he had in Chelsea, despite winning the Champions League. Something must have happened. PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said to me: Lothar, I don’t understand why Bayern signed Thomas Tuchel. That’s a clear statement.”Why did Bayern hire Tuchel, indeed? At least now it looks like the nightmare is over.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the latest Bayern Munich news? Bayern Munich - Bayer Leverkusen Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images Kompany remains a defender at heart. Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time this season with a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern’s only goal came in the 39th minute when Aleksandar Pavlović delivered an incredible volley to level the score. The match wasn’t the high flying affair that most fans wanted, primarily due to Leverkusen’s tactics. Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso elected to park the bus, conceding 69% possession and a 15-shot differential. When asked about Leverkusen’s defensive strategy (via @iMiaSanMia) Kompany responded, “No. Because we know that Leverkusen’s strength is that they can do both. They can press and put pressure when they want and can also defend well when they need to. We did many things right. Maybe on another day we’d be more successful in front of goal. But my team played well.”Kompany showed more tact and composure than most (see, Jürgen Klopp). FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich’s attack could need to shuffle some things. According to a release from FCBayern.com, Bayern Munich star Harry Kane suffered a “painful blow” to the ankle and will receive “intensive treatments”: Harry Kane suffered a painful blow to his ankle in Saturday’s top Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen ( 1:1 ). Examinations by FC Bayern’s medical department on Sunday showed a positive development. Kane will continue to receive intensive treatment. The release was intentionally vague and did not indicate whether or not there was a strain or sprain, but it did create some doubt for Kane’s status for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Aston Villa.Despite the injury against Bayer Leverkusen, Kane was pleased with Bayern Munich’s victory. “We gave them very few chances, they were hardly in our half. If we carry on like this, we will be difficult to stop,” Kane told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen?
