FC Bayern Munich v Grashoppers Zurich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Knowledge of provenance should not be left out When a young player wants to achieve his/her dream of playing professional football, sacrifices must be made. The player’s family will almost do everything to help their child achieve their dreams. For Bayern Munich’s young left-back Adam Aznou, it’s pretty much the same.“Since I was little, my father has always helped me with everything; he took me everywhere, and thanks to him, I started playing football, for which I am very grateful,” Aznou said (as captured by Twitter account @Lions_talk). “My mother has always been there for everything I needed. I come from a humble and hard-working family, and I than Allah for being able to make them happy.”The 18-year-old FC Barcelona product also cited fellow wide defender Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint-Germain as an “older brother kind of figure“; Hakimi helped him settle in with the national team. “My brother Achraf, haha, he has helped me since day one,” Aznou said. “When the list came out, he sent me a message congratulating me, and that was very nice of him. He is a really good person and a great captain, and it’s clear.”

Bayer 04 Leverkusen Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Jörg Schüler/Bayer 04 Leverkusen via Getty Images Germany vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina...are you ready? Barca, Real to duel with Bayern on Tah? (Barca News Network)Bayern Munich could have stiff competition from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid for Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah: In the last summer, the strongest area of the FC Barcelona team was the center of the defense. The Blaugranes had a surplus of players in this position, with Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet, and Pau Cubarsi all present in the squad for the two positions in the center of the defense. However, Ronald Araujo was injured during the Copa America, and Andreas Christensen was also injured at the very start of the season. Jules Kounde had to play mostly as a right-back after Cancelo’s departure, and Clement Lenglet left on loan for Atletico Madrid.Eric Garcia has been playing more as a midfield pivot this season, and Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi have been the players to play at the center of the defense this season. While some of the injured players are expected to return to action in the coming few months, Barcelona are still being linked with other defenders in the market. One such defender is the Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah, whose contract with the German club is set to expire next summer. However, while the Catalans can sign him for free, they will not be able to sign him easily. This is particularly the case as Fichajes reports that Real Madrid are also keeping their sights on the experienced defender, after having tasted success with similar operations in the past for David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger. The Merengues are looking to bolster their defense after the season-ending injury suffered by Dani Carvajal. Similarly, David Alaba has also not yet returned after his ACL tear, and Eder Militao has also been facing physical problems since last season.Meanwhile, some Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and West Ham United have also made inquiries for the €30m-rated center-back. However, a recent report from SPORT indicated that Bayern Munich and Barcelona are the frontrunners for his signature, despite interest from several Premier League teams who have also reached out to his representatives.Even though Bayern Munich will likely need a center-back or two next summer, it would not be the worst thing in the world if Real Madrid or FC Barcelona out-bid the Bavarians for Tah. Szczesny says smoke’em if you got’em (ESPN)Freshly-minted FC Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has recently come under fire for...smoking: Wojciech Szczesny recently reversed his retirement decision to join Barcelona, but he is not about to change how he lives his personal life, and that includes smoking. After Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a long-term injury, Barcelona convinced the former Juventus keeper to sign as a free agent. Szczesny doesn’t believe that what he does off the pitch should be of any interest to anyone.“There are things that I don’t change in my personal life and it’s nobody’s business if I smoke. I believe that it doesn’t affect what I do on the pitch, I work twice as hard,” Szczesny told Mundo Deportivo in an interview.“I don’t do it in front of kids because I don’t want to have a bad influence on them. Sometimes somebody will take a photo from the trees where I have a cigarette, that’s on them, not on me.“If somebody thinks that I will change the way I am in my personal life they can think again because I am who I am. I’ve been this way my whole life.”Well, you know what they say...where there’s smoke...there’s fire. Anyway, given his penchant for lighting up an occasional heater, shouldn’t he have considered linking up with Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid?Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 4, Episode 13 (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich is on break, but that does not mean that there…

Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images Good for him, what a player... Serge Gnabry has been on a journey of growth at Bayern Munich, especially after battling injuries that disrupted his 2022/23 season. Despite having some extremely crucial skills, Gnabry’s form dipped due to frequent setbacks. However, his return to fitness has reignited his brilliance on the pitch.“It was impossible not to read [the speculation]. But I was focused on myself. I used the summer to get back in shape and prepare well. I have a lot of joy playing football again after I was injured a lot last season,” Gnabry said in an interview with ESPN FC (captured by @iMiaSanMia), reflecting on his mental strength during recovery. This focus and determination has clearly paid off. Early in the 2024/25 season, his dribbling looks sharper, his finishing more clinical, and his overall contribution to Bayern’s attacking play is more dynamic.Gnabry’s development over time, despite injury setbacks, shows his adaptability. He’s evolved from a pure winger to a more versatile forward, contributing both as a playmaker and a finisher.

Germany Training Session And Press Conference Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images The boys are ready to get going... Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is ready to face off with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday as the German national team kicks off this slate of UEFA Nations League games on the road. “I think it’s healthy that we don’t only get used to the top stadiums in Europe. It’s important that the pitch is in a decent condition. There will be very loud and frenetic spectators there, and we’re looking forward to that,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). For these matches, Nagelsmann will be shorthanded with more as multiple German players have been sidelined with injuries. ”As a coach, you can look at it from two sides: either you complain or - the view that I take - see it as a good opportunity for the core team that was at the Euros to transfer the atmosphere that we had there and the way we played recently to the newly assembled team. For the players who are new or who have played less recently, it’s a chance to get playing time,” Nagelsmann. “I have no different expectations than recently: That we play a good game and show that we are proud to play for Germany, that we give everything we have in terms of character and that we win the game in the end.”One of the big questions for Nagelsmann with his with who will play striker given the absences of Kai Havertz and Niclas Füllkrug. Tim Kleindienst and Jonathan Burkardt are the prime contenders.Nagelsmann, though, played coy when asked the question: “You can expect one of them to start.”One player who will definitely start is Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel, who is on loan this season with VfB Stuttgart. “Of course, the anticipation outweighs everything else. I’m really looking forward to playing the game tomorrow. Of course there’s a bit of nervousness as well, but I’m really looking forward to tomorrow night,” said Nübel.Looking for some thoughts on where things stand for the German national team ahead of the games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands? FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Positions are never guaranteed in the Bayern squad. They are earned and fought for every day. It is an open secret that Bayern Munich has been going through some drastic changes over the last two to three seasons. Within that span, they have had three different managers, their first trophy-less season in over a decade, and have been faced with the reality that their no longer as dominant in the Bundesliga as they once were. In addition to the managerial role switching from Julian Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel to Vincent Kompany, there has been a sort of changing of the guard amongst the squad, if you will. Gone are the days of a veteran core of players like David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Thiago Alcantara, Xabi Alonso, Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and many, many more players who could arguably be mentioned in the same breath. One thing is still certain, though, places in the squad are no guarantee for any player, and some players are faced with the reality of playing bit part roles in their fight to break into more regular minutes. Such has been the case for new signing João Palhinha, but it has also been prevalent for the industrious Konrad Laimer, who signed from Leipzig two summers ago. The club had agreed to sign him in the winter of 2023 and he has proven to be a bit of a Swiss army knife with his positional versatility under both Tuchel an Kompany, but his opportunities for starting minutes have been harder to come by under the Belgian. From Austria’s training camp ahead of their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Kazakhstan and Norway, Laime referred to Bayern as a “shark tank” in terms of how hard it is to fight for a place in the team. “That’s football. I play for FC Bayern Munich and it’s not make a wish whether you play or not. It’s, as people say, a ‘shark tank’, you have to establish yourself. Of course there’s a lot of competition and good players. There are so many games this season. I will put my all into it and I know that I have what it takes,” he explained when asked about his limited role in the squad (via @iMiaSanMia). SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images So far this season, Laimer has clocked a total of 198 competitive minutes from a total of six appearances across all competitions, the majority of his appearances have come as a substitute off. His pair of starts both came at right back; one was the 5-0 Bundesliga win over Werder Bremen while the other came in the 1-0 loss at Aston Villa in the Champions League. He can also play in midfield, but Kompany has a plethora of midfielders at his disposal, making more use of Laimer’s defensive abilities. With the upcoming fixtures list after the international break, there will certainly be more opportunities for minutes as Kompany will need to make rotations in the squad, so it will be up to Laimer to make the most of them to stake a claim to more regularly be in the starting lineups. Germany v Hungary - UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 League A - Group 3 Photo by Oliver Kaelke/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Die Mannschaft is back in action. Germany is back in action for its second international period of the 2024/25 season.Julian Nagelsmann and company sit first place in Germany’s Nations League table but are tied on points with the Netherlands, whom they play on October 14th. First up is Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 11th.With numerous stars missing out this time due to injury or fitness issues, Nagelsmann will have his work cut out for him. But the road to the FIFA 2026 Men’s World Cup has already begun and there is little time to waste. The first task will likely be to determine Manuel Neuer’s successor at goalkeeper — and Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel (currently at VfB Stuttgart) and TSG Hoffenheim veteran Oliver Baumann are on tap this time, set to get one game apiece with FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen out with a long-term injury.Join us here on Bavarian Football Works for the full story. Netherlands v Germany - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images It feels like half the squad pulled out due to injury. With Bayern Munich suffering right now, maybe the international break came at the right time. Now, fans can watch Germany suffer for a nice change of pace. Okay, maybe that’s a little bit too negative — Germany are actually playing some decent football these days. However, Julian Nagelsmann has a minor injury crisis on his hands, thanks to the absurd schedule these international players are being put through. It’s not exactly ideal when you’re only a few months into the new season. Team newsA bunch of the main first teamers are missing, but the highlights include Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, David Raum, and more. Last time, kicker got their predicted lineups spot-on, so we’ll trust them again this time around:Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Germany | Predicted lineups [@kicker] pic.twitter.com/6oQ15Fglwb— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 9, 2024Some notes on the XI:Serge Gnabry is set to make his Germany return after almost a year out of the squad. He’s been in decent form with Bayern this season, though his last few games have been less than stellar (which goes for the whole team, really). The fact that Nagelsmann still doesn’t want to start Aleksandar Pavlović is a little bit odd, since he’s currently relying on a double defensive midfield pairing of Robert Andrich and Pascal Groß. Germany might benefit from Pavlović taking over the role that Toni Kroos played in the Euros, but the coach prefers a different approach at the moment. Alexander Nübel is set to start for the national team in place of the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen. If he’s really going to be Manuel Neuer’s successor one day, he’ll have to impress at the national level. Germany Training Session And Press Conference Photo by Leonhard Simon/Getty Images The Bayern Munich youngster is ready... Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović has lofty goals for his career. The youngster is taking a very patient approach, though, and does not want to force anything. The 20-year-old is still waiting to make his first start for the German national team, which is his next milestone. “My aim is always to want to play. But in the end, it’s the coach who decides. I can only do my best in training and recommend myself, then we’ll see,” said Pavlović (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Pavlović is competing with Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich, Borussia Dortmund’s Pascal Groß, and VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller for playing time in the games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands. There is a good chance that Pavlović could achieve his goal within the next few days.Looking for some thoughts on where things stand for the German national team ahead of the games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands? FC Bayern Munich - Bayer 04 Leverkusen Photo by Peter Kneffel/picture alliance via Getty Images Until the ink is dry, anything can happen. Bayern Munich has made an annual habit of stealing rising players from other Bundesliga clubs. At the moment, the number one target is Bayer Leverkusen and German international Florian Wirtz. Bayern is also in hot pursuit of Wirtz’s teammate, defender Jonathan Tah. Bayern has long been perceived as the only option for Tah, but a recent report from Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) suggests otherwise.Bayern are no longer leading the race for Jonathan Tah. Real Madrid are interested and have spoken to the player’s camp. Barcelona are also interested. The player will reassess his situation and could make a decision around January with a view to a free transfer next summer.Tah will be 29-years-old by next summer’s transfer window. This means that he would slot in as a replacement for Eric Dier as a third center-back option but is unlikely to supplant Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae as a starter.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on where Bayern Munich stands at the moment, along with updates on the contract situations of Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, plus a breakdown of “The Kompany Rules”? FC Bayern München Press Conference For Public Charging Park For Commercial Vehicles At Allianz Arena Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images More games, much to players’ chagrin The Club World Cup used to only be a 6-7 team tournament that began in the knockout phase straight away, eliminating teams as you would in any knockout tournament. The 2025 edition of the Club World Cup will feature 32 teams in what looks to be a tournament styled in the old Champions League format held quadrenially. Qualification is through the four-year confederation ranking or having won intercontinental tournaments (i.e. Champions League).“It’s exciting when 12 of the best clubs from Europe compete with clubs from all over the world,” Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia). “As far as the topic of stress is concerned, the Club World Cup only takes place every four years. Of course, participation must be economically worthwhile in addition to the sporting incentive. Because there are more costs if, ideally, you tour abroad for four weeks until the final, you may also have to have a bigger squad.”Welcome to the new age of football.

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images They’re all human after all The Champions League has now been rebranded, introducing more games and with further competitions spawning left, right, and center, the topic of players being able to play that many games has come into question. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is aware of the implications of playing too many games and has revisited a stance that he had as a player.“That has always been a topic in recent years, I was part of the FIFPRO players’ union,” Kompany recalled (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “We’ve always dealt with the topic very seriously. It’s not just about the games, but also about the travel - including with the national team. That’s about 75, 80 games. Even as a player, I demanded that a maximum number of games needs to be set for the players, that it should be limited. That protects their health and the interests of the clubs. And ultimately the coaches too, for whom it’s not easy either. That would make a lot of sense.”Players like Rodri (Manchester City), Jules Kounde (FC Barcelona), and Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid) mentioned a possible strike if this issue has not been resolved; those players play in a bigger league size-wise which means they play more games.

FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Bit too early to be thinking about next season, isn’t it? While the 2024/25 football season is not even two months old, the football fashion world is working quickly. So quickly, that the new kit colors for the following season have started to be released barely a month after the release of the adidas third kits.In Bayern Munich’s case, the color schemes of all three kits - home, away, and third - have been leaked by the good people over at Footy Headlines. Kicking things off is the home kit, which has been a matter of contention with the club ultras in recent years. First, there was the predominantly white home kit of 2023/24, and now there is the red and black home kit of 2024/25. It is unclear whether adidas has heard the ultras’ ongoing protests, but they have granted their wishes: the 2025/26 home kit will revert back to a traditional red and white getup. That being said, according to Footy Headlines, the home kit will feature a “never-before-seen design,” so it remains to be seen how well it will be received by the ultras. FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-FRANKFURT-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by DANIEL ROLAND/AFP via Getty Images The away kit, meanwhile, will go back to white for the first time in three years. The last time Bayern wore a white away kit was in 2022/23, when it sported a gorgeous white and gold jersey. VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images This time, though, the kit will feature gray and coral details. While a white and gray color scheme has been seen before on a Bayern away kit, in 2019/20 to be exact, coral will be a new addition. It remains to be seen how exactly that will look. 1. FC Union Berlin v FC Bayern Muenchen - Bundesliga Photo by Hannibal Hanschke/Pool via Getty Images The third kit, meanwhile, will see adidas team up with the brand BSTN. Seeing as the home and away kits will be red and white, it’s only natural that the third kit will be a darker color. Indeed, the primary color of the third kit will be black. The details will be khaki, red, and ivory, which is an interesting combination. The khaki and ivory colors look similar to gold and gray, respectively. It will be intriguing to see how adidas incorporates four colors onto a single jersey. Perhaps we will be seeing something akin to the black and gold away kit from 2021/22? FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-BAYERN MUNICH-AUGSBURG Photo by CHRISTOF STACHE/POOL/AFP via Getty Images We will keep you updated with any new details as they become available.

Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Well, we all saw that coming… Joshua Kimmich has been touted as the future face of Bayern Munich for a long time, his attitude reflects the Bayern spirit, and the managing board has never hid what they thought from him.Because of this, Kimmich is now in “very, very good talks” (according to a report from Christian Falk, captured by @iMiaSanMia), and is set to stay at Bayern Munich. To motivate the German midfielder/right-back to sign, they have “changed everything” for him. They have also assured him that he will lead the RekordMeister into the future. The club is rebuilding entirely, and Kimmich being at the helm would act as a massive incentive to sign a new contract. According to the report, Kimmich is basically there already, and with a little bit of luck, he will sign the contract this year. Fans will not be disappointed, Kimmich wholeheartedly reflects the values and mentality that the club and the fans stand for. Germany v Turkey - International Friendly Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images The 2014 World Cup winner, Lukas Podolski, was always a joyous presence. Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer will take part in his former Germany teammate Lukas Podolski’s farewell match. Podolski represented Germany 130 times and scored 49 goals. Only Lothar Matthäus, Miroslav Klose and Thomas Müller represented the national side more than he did. He was awarded the Best Young Player award in the FIFA World Cup in 2006. He is also the third highest scorer in the history of the national side behind Klose and Gerd Müller. Podolski, who was born in Poland, chose to represent Germany; he is considered a son of Köln after representing the club at youth levels and in the top flight. His prolific time in Köln saw him earn a move to Bayern Munich in 2006, and, as happens to so many players, it did not quite work out. He left Bayern in 2009 for Köln; the striker would also go on to play for Arsenal, Inter Milan and Galatasaray among other clubs.Germany is finally set to give him a well deserved farewell. Per @iMiaSanMia, his former managers Joachim Löw and Hansi Flick will be on the sidelines. His current teammates from Górnik Zabrze will also be there.
