Germany Training Session And Press Conference Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images A wise response from the young manager. Players, coaches, and clubs are struggling to navigate the various challenges associated with the increased number of games being played each season. Between preseason tours, international “breaks”, and larger tournaments, even top clubs like Bayern Munich are vulnerable to the wear and tear. The additional revenue is funding larger salaries and transfer fees, especially at the bigger clubs. Fans, players, and clubs (basically everybody who isn’t FIFA or UEFA) support a lighter schedule. In a recent press conference, Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann offered some interesting points of his own.“I’ve often stressed that I don’t want to constantly complain about the schedule,” Nagelsmann said (via @iMiaSanMia). “In the end, the many games finance the expensive sport.”“On the other hand, you have to look at what kind of injuries they are,” Nagelsmann added. “If they were all reactions to overexertion, we could talk about it. Fülle (Niclas Füllkrug) has had them for ages, even during the break, there was not much evidence of overexertion. David Raum twisted ankle, which also had nothing to do with overexertion. With Henrichs, we don’t know for sure, he has had back problems for a while. But it can’t be a burden either, when I look at the minutes he played in Leipzig.”“There won’t be fewer games in the future, but more,” Nagelsmann concluded. “We need to talk a bit about how the breaks are structured. In the NBA, players play around 80 games and also have to travel many kilometers. But they have a very long break, the NFL also has a long break. We don’t have that in football.”It is important that Nagelsmann acknowledges injuries as a natural part of the game and overexertion is not always the culprit. His proposal of longer break periods would allow players to recover from nagging injuries rather than force themselves back into action.Clubs will soon be forced to prioritize competitions and lower payout tournaments like Nations League or domestic cups will become watered down versions.Looking for discussion on Germany vs. the Netherlands, plus some conversation on Bayern Munich’s ongoing battle with Matthijs de Ligt? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Bob’s our uncle? Maybe it’s BFW staffer Tom Adams but it’s getting a little English around here.Bayern Munich’s English speaking contingent has grown in recent years. In addition to last season’s arrivals of England internationals and former Tottenham Hotspur teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier, the Bavarians targeted the Premier League in this summer’s transfer window with the additions of Michael Olise and João Palhinha from Crystal Palace and Fulham, respectively. Not to mention the presence of Canadian Alphonso Davies and other players with EPL pasts — Leroy Sané (Manchester City), Serge Gnabry (Arsenal FC), and Jamal Musiala (Chelsea FC). “There is a lot of English spoken in the dressing room now,” Musiala explained in a recent Guardian interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).As for learning German? The Guardian asked about who has picked up the new language the best. “Michael not. Harry? I think he can say a couple of words. Maybe Eric,” Musiala declared. As they say though: football itself is a universal language.

England Training Photo by Harry Murphy/Getty Images Between club and country, it’s now been quite some time since Kane has found the back of the net. Between matches for both Bayern Munich and England, it has now been five matches across all competitions that Harry Kane has failed to find the back of the net, one of his longest stretches in recent memory. During the international break for England, he was still carrying a knock that he sustained in Bayern’s 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt the weekend prior, which was an injury to the same ankle that gave him some trouble in the 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.Earlier in the season, Kane was scoring and assisting at will, just as he had started last season, but he has hit a bit of a wall. To be fair to the striker, he was not in the England squad that shockingly lost 2-1 to Greece at Wembley in the Nations League and he clocked 69 minutes in the 3-1 win over Finland before Lee Carsley made the decision to replace him with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.Despite starting and registering nearly 70 minutes in Finland, Kane was only able to muster one shot (off target) and a total of 27 touches, the majority of which came from lateral or backwards passes with his back to Lukas Hradecky’s goal. To be fair to Kane, it was a different look and squad from the experiment that backfired on Carsley against Greece, but his performance looked eerily similar to the last couple of performances he’s had with Bayern. Finland v England - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League B Group B2 Photo by Eddie Keogh - The FA/The FA via Getty Images Between the Frankfurt draw and Aston Villa loss, Kane has only registered four shots (all off target) and 68 touches. Against Leverkusen, Kane did not have a single shot and only recorded 20 touches on the ball squaring off on Xabi Alonso’s tactically sound, disciplined, and well resolute setup. He did, however, have an assist in Frankfurt and he currently leads the Bundesliga in assists for the season thus far (four) along with Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush. Of course, a key piece of Bayern’s attack in Jamal Musiala was missing for at least the first half against Villa and the draw at Frankfurt, but that is hardly an excuse for the Bayern striker to have been kept so quiet in recent weeks for both club and country. His last goal for either Bayern or England came in the 5-0 win over Werder Bremen at the end of September, a match in which he scored once and assisted twice. Prior to that match, he had already recorded 11 goals and three assists between Bayern an England, including a four-goal effort against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and a hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel. He did not go more than one match without a goal or assist during that stretch, so something has to give.Is he still carrying injuries and fatigue from the EUROs? Is Kane no struggling with tactical adjustments from either Vincent Kompany or Lee Carsley? Is he not getting the proper service? These are all questions one could be asking with regards to Kane’s recent form, but Bayern and England will certainly be hoping he is able to put this spell behind him as quickly as possible, especially with the sheer number of matches coming up. Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images A decorated career. When you play for as long — and as successfully — as Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller has, you break a few records along the way. “It’s nice, and it’s the reward for the hard work you have put in. I didn’t expect it,” Müller said recently in post-match comments following Bayern’s 5-0 win over Werder Bremen (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “When you start out, you don’t expect to have a 15-year career at the absolute highest level, and you can’t plan each step along the way. In hindsight, I am glad that I managed to stay at this level for so long, because I know how much work is behind it. “However, while I could easily sit and reflect on it, that doesn’t help me tomorrow or in the next training session. You are always looking for the next adrenaline kick, which you can usually find at a full Allianz Arena in a game that gets feisty. That’s what you really work for. What you have achieved is nice, but what’s coming is more interesting.”This was on a day where Müller broke the Bayern record for Bundesliga appearances by a single player. Even when Bayern Munich is on a break, there are ample subjects to talk about. We will definitely tackle some hot topics brewing in Bavaria, but the German national team is also looking like things are clicking under Julian Nagelsmann, so let’s hop right into some chatter about why things are going so well at the moment: Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany is — gasp! — inspiring. The former Bayern Munich boss is really connecting with this group and something special could be brewing for 2026. Dissecting those Matthijs de Ligt rumors. Did Bayern Munich let him go because he was making too much money...or because he was spending too much time pumping iron in the gym? Or...are these stories just nonsense being floated out there?Details on a deal between Bayern Munich star ALphonso Davies and Real Madrid have leaked. Pre-Season Friendly1.FC Duren v FC Bayern Munchen Hiroki Ito gets a run out in Bayern Munich’s preseason friendly against FC Duren at Karl-Knipprath Stadium on July 28, 2024. | Photo by ANP via Getty Images A much needed option for Bayern Munich’s backline. Bayern Munich fans eager to see what impact Hiroki Ito would have made in defence would have been bitterly disappointed after the 25-year-old Japanese international suffered a metatarsal fracture during a preseason friendly against 1. FC Düren in late July. Fast forward about two and a half months later, Ito is back in training with the ball and readying to make his first competitive start for Die Roten. While Ito is close to a comeback, BILD reports that fans will have to exercise a bit more patience as the former VfB Stuttgart man eyes his comeback for late October (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Since Monday, Hiroki Itō has been making important daily steps towards his comeback from his metatarsal fracture. The next Bundesliga home game against Stuttgart and the Champions League clash four days later at FC Barcelona may come a bit early for him. But it’s quite possible that Itō will be able to make his competitive debut for Bayern before the end of this month. He already seems really lively again during his rehab training sessions.Considering how shaky Bayern’s defence has been in recent games, Ito would be a welcome addition to the backline. That being said, diving head first into a fragile defence may not exactly be the best way to get Ito up to speed, so expect the left-footed defender to be eased back into the team slowly (bar any unforeseen injuries to Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae). Another topic of interest around Ito is what position he will be deployed in. The six foot two defender is a centre-back by tradition but can also be deployed as a left-back. Many have theorised that Kompany is planning on using the Japanese international on the left flank. Given Alphonso Davies more defensive minded approach this season, it may not be unrealistic to imagine Ito as a left-back. Only time will tell which position Ito is deployed in and whether he will displace one of Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae. In the meantime, fans can keep an eager eye on Ito’s return to first team football. How do you feel about Hiroki Ito’s return to the first team? Will he provide the defence solidity Bayern need or are the defensive fragilities more a system issue? Also, do you think the Japanese international will be used as a centre-back, left-back or maybe a mix of both?Let us know in the comments below!

Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Don’t count him out just yet. Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka is in the unenviable position of being out of favor at the club. But the season is long and perhaps there is still a chance for Goretzka to force his way back in to new head coach Vincent Kompany’s plans. The bosses, for their part, are not currently thinking about finding a move for the midfielder in the January transfer window — at least not publicly. Christoph Freund on whether Goretzka could leave Bayern in January: “That’s not our topic at the moment,” sporting director Christoph Freund said late last month in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Leon is training well and giving everything. He came on in the Champions League game [vs. Dinamo Zagreb] and immediately scored a goal. He’s there when he’s needed. You never know what will happen and how things will develop in three to four months. We’ll see.”Can Goretzka really find his way back into this Bayern team? VfL Wolfsburg v FC Bayern München - Google Pixel Frauen Bundesliga Photo by Selim Sudheimer/Getty Images for DFB First loss of the season, and it is a big one. Bayern Munich stumbled in the Frauen-Bundesliga for the first time this season in an away match at recent title contender VfL Wolfsburg. This year’s Wolfsburg squad is not the same. After being a force in the Bundesliga for years, the Wolfsburg Frauen began to slip last season, and the gap only seemed to widen at the start of 2024/25.But for one day, Wolfsburg turned the clock back and delivered a 2-0 win over the Bavarians.Vivien Endemann got to the scoring going early with a in the 5th minute after a disastrous back-pass from Jovana Damnjanović.Damnjanović was stretchered off the field after a scary head collision in the first half. Bayern had a golden chance to strike back before the break. Lea Schüller played in Pernille Harder through on goal with a clever flick, but the former Chelsea FC star dragged her effort wide. Long-time former Bayern Munich star Lineth Beerensteyn delivered the crushing blow of a second in the 67th minute immediately after coming on for Jule Brand, in a mad scramble in front of goal. Bayern would not recover. And so it was that after a roaring Champions League victory over Arsenal FC just days ago, the Bayern Frauen stumbled for the first time this season — in a match with potentially key Bundesliga title implications.

SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The Bayern Munich midfielder just wants to be himself... When his signing went official, Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha had a feeling some folks would want to compare him to former Bayern star Javi Martinez. “I have to tell you something I’ll never forget. After a match with a youth national team against the USA – it must have been the U17s or U18s – the opposition coach came up to me and said: ‘You’re the next Javi Martínez’. Of course, I knew who Javi was and what he’d achieved with Bayern, but after that I looked even closer when I saw him play. It was flattering to be compared to him, but I never wanted to copy him. He’s Javi, I’m João,” Palhinha told FCBayern.com.When asked if he had ever dream of being a player his countrymen, Cristiano Ronaldo, Palhinha also balked at that.“There are things that I was born with. That I’m relatively tall, that I’m physically strong. But the crucial thing is that you feel inside yourself what contribution you can make on the pitch to be successful as a team. Everyone has their role. There are players who create chances and score goals. Of course I’ll try to do that too, but you also need players who prevent the opposition from scoring. My job is to provide the necessary balance,” said Palhinha.

Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Kimmich is not opposed to the increased fixture congestion for both club and country matches. The word “intensity” is quite synonymous with Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich, though he can also be described as a defender, depending on who you ask. One would be hard-pressed to find a match, for either club or country, where there wasn’t at least one moment of Kimmich yelling or gesticulating in an aggressive manner. That is simply the type of player he is and the type of energy he brings to the pitch. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and there are few subtleties about him when he is playing football.Despite squad rotations for different fixtures in various competitions, primarily with Bayern, Kimmich is often a mainstay on the team sheet. He possesses the fitness and ability to play a full 90 minutes multiple times a week, and his track record supports how often he plays, barring the period in the 2020/21 season when he dealt with a respiratory issue. This season, especially with the introduction of the new Champions League format in European competition, there has been widespread backlash among players, clubs, pundits, and fans about the number of matches scheduled across all competitions. This follows UEFA’s introduction of the Nations League to eliminate the idea of meaningless friendlies during mid-season international breaks. For Kimmich, however, he doesn’t mind the packed fixture lists. In fact, he feels quite the opposite and relishes the chance to play as often as possible, despite the risks.“Maybe I’m making myself a bit unpopular, but I like to play a lot of games. In football, there will always be injuries,” he explained to Deutsche Welle. Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Ironically, last season, Manchester City manager and former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola suggested that a strike might be a good option to address the increasing fixture congestion. “There is only one solution to change something: maybe if all the players decide for themselves to say, ‘Stop,’ you have to change something,” Guardiola said last fall via The Athletic. “Then FIFA and UEFA will maybe react a little bit.”Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who is now sidelined with a serious injury, echoed Guardiola’s sentiment earlier this season. “I think we’re close to going on strike over the football calendar. It’s something that worries us. We are the ones who suffer,” he warned (via CentreGoals). For Kimmich, who rarely gets injured for either Bayern or Germany, one could argue that fortune favors the bold. However, not every player is as fortunate to remain as fit and healthy for as long as he has. There will always be calculated risks with the incredibly high fixture demand, but as things stand, the only solution might indeed be a strike initiated by players, clubs, and national team federations.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on where Bayern Munich stands at the moment, along with updates on the contract situations of Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, plus a breakdown of “The Kompany Rules”? Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Julian Finney - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images The new guys loves his new home... Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha’s transfer to the club was a year in the making and when it finally happened, the player was both happy and relieved. “There’s a saying in my home country: sometimes a train doesn’t come twice. But in this case, the train came a second time and the doors opened again. I didn’t necessarily expect that, and I find it extraordinary that this big club never broke off contact. It all showed me once again what a special club Bayern is and that they really believe in me in Munich,” Palhinha told FCBayerrn.com. “I believe that a family environment in a club suits me very well. It’s always been important to me that I feel at home at my clubs, and I’ve taken many fond memories with me from each of my clubs. I’m convinced that it will be the same at Bayern.”While he has not made a dramatic impact as of yet, Palhinha’s importance to the squad is expected to ramp up in the coming weeks and months. Surely, both Palhinha and the team will be eager to see what he can do once he starts to get regular opportunities.

FC Bayern Women v AFC Ajax Vrouwen - UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 32: Second Leg Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images With Breast Cancer Awareness Month upon us, Bayern rose to the occasion. It’s not just Bayern Munich’s men’s team who are coming up with special kits. Just like last season, Bayern’s women’s team has also released a special edition shirt.Bayern has once again partnered with model Lena Gercke’s brand LeGer to produce a special jersey, as they did last March. The color scheme is quite similar to the previous shirt, a black background with pinkish details, although the previous shirt’s details were more coral than pink. The design is strikingly different, though; large diamonds pepper the front of the shirt, not too dissimilar to the 20/21 third kit. The meaning behind the shirt is very important. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for the occasion, Bayern and Allianz have released a kit incorporating pink, the symbol color for breast cancer awareness. ❤️

For those unaware, DKMS is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping those with blood cancer and blood disorders. It is definitely refreshing to see adidas put this kind of effort into the women’s team, not least for the good cause as well. Bayern will wear the special jersey in the top Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. The shirt is also available for purchase in the official Bayern online store.

RB Leipzig v Juventus - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Germany takes on the Netherlands today...are you ready? Bayern back in on Šeško? (Football Talk)Before acquiring Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich was rumored to be kicking the tires on striker Benjamin Šeško.Since then, Šeško has gone on to prove himself at RB Leipzig and might — once again — be on the radar of Bayern Munich: According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal have a good chance of signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko ahead of Manchester United and Bayern Munich next summer. The Gunners were keen on landing the Slovenia international last summer, but he decided to stay with Leipzig instead. The 21-year-old ended up penning a new long-term contract with the Bundesliga outfit. This has not ended the speculation regarding his future and TEAMtalk claim that manager Mikel Arteta remains keen on bringing a top-class striker to the club to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.Arsenal hold a strong interest in Sesko in particular. The reports suggests the Gunners have an edge over Man United and Bayern, having held talks with the players camp where they made it clear they can offer him the best playing time going forward in his career.Life is all about timing. If Kane decides to head back to England before his contract expires, a player like Šeško could be very appealing. However, it remains to be seen what happens with Kane and his career timeline. Germany v Hungary - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Germany is ready to take on the Dutch... Former Bayern Munich coach and current German national team manager Julian Nagelsmann has his team ready to square off with the Netherlands in UEFA Nations League action. “It’s a very interesting game against a good opponent. I thought we were the better side in Amsterdam and could have won the game, and we’ll try to do the same tomorrow. We’ll be more challenged than against Bosnia,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The changes won’t be that big. It doesn’t affect Tim Kleindienst. Some players were tired, but that’s normal with the short break. We’ll see if we need to make any more changes. Four changes are planned.“When you start a job, you have a certain conviction. We played a good EUROs and achieved a lot from a footballing point of view. I don’t know yet whether we will work together beyond 2026. I feel very comfortable in the job.”After starting Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich and Borussia Dortmund’s Pascal Groß against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nagelsmann is mixing it up by giving the starting nod to both Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović and VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller.“Aleksandar Pavlović and Angelo Stiller will play tomorrow [against the Netherlands],” said Nagelsmann. “Angelo is doing well, he is training well and has started the season well. He still has a few things he can do better. But I want to see him do that. There are still two years left until the World Cup, so we need a few young players.”One player who Nagelsmann will ensure his team is aware of is Netherlands attacker Brian Brobbey, who was handful for Germany in the first meeting between the teams. “He’s physically very good. I brought him to Leipzig, but then I left, which was unfortunate. He’s not a classic striker who just stands in the penalty box and taps the ball in. He is difficult to defend,” Nagelsmann said. FC Bayern Munich - Bayer 04 Leverkusen Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images Prediction, performance, and hurt vs. harm… The question of when to sit, rest or rotate players is always a hot topic of conversation amongst Bayern Munich fans since the club seems to suffer from more than it’s fair share of injuries. The decision on when to rest or play certain players falls to the coach who must balance competitive, health and financial considerations when making the choice. But the days of a coach making that decision based on their gut, observations, and speaking to players is in the past now replaced with a whole raft of sports science data that gets taken into account. So just what kind of information does a Bayern coach receive to help them decide how to fill out the line-up card? The Hard NumbersA Bayern player, like a player at any top level club, is carefully monitored to track their mental and physical fitness on a daily basis. Much of the data gathered can also be used (and in fact is specifically gathered for that purpose) to understand the likelihood of the player suffering injuries, overtraining or underperforming. The analysis starts with the training cycles that are planned out for a player. No athlete can maintain peak fitness throughout the entire season and a plan is developed for each individual player to determine when they can be delivered to their physical performance peaks, how many peaks can be achieved over the season, and how long each peak can be maintained. Different points in the training cycles offer different injury risks and that information is provided to the coach for each individual player, and one expects that the coach actually gets a say in how the cycles are programmed for each athlete. But as anyone in the sports world knows the plan only takes you so far. Ongoing adjustments are critical and for that you need up to date information. And Bayern’s coaching staff get that in spades. When a top athlete gets up in the morning he is expected to monitor and submit some basic physical information (resting heart rate etc) as well as fill out a short multiple choice questionnaire on his emotions and subjective feelings which is submitted electronically to the club. The mental side of performance is now tracked almost as closely as the physical and all of this information can determine how a player is responding to training and competing which can both signal over training or increasing injury risk.Players are also subjected to frequent blood tests. Some clubs, such as RB Leipzig do blood tests on their players every day about an hour before the training session and have the results in hand in time to adjust that days program based on those results. While how often Bayern blood tests its players is not publicly available it would be surprising if they were doing it significantly less often than their league competitors. The blood results also help warn of growing injury risks. Various markers in the testing can warn that injury likelihood or performance reducing fatigue is increasing.Interestingly, there are also several markers in urine analysis that can perform this function, but the player’s aversion to urine analysis as it is often associated with doping controls has led to a situation where players are resistant to, and teams reluctant to, use this tool on a frequent basis. So, many of Kompany’s decisions on player use are informed by the hard data provided to him by the training and medical staff. Deciding on how to deal with these injury situations is one of the most challenging dilemmas that the training team and the coach face. Injuries can be broken down. The simplest ones to understand are those that cause…

When news broke on Friday that Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović was battling an injury and would miss Germany’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, fans were very wary about the potential for more bad news to drop. Fortunately, it looks like the youngster will be just fine. According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @IMiaSanMia), Pavlović could finally make his first start for the German national team on Monday vs. the Netherlands: Aleksandar Pavlović is taking part in Germany’s final training session ahead of the game against the Netherlands and is a candidate for the starting XI tomorrow.Later, pictures emerged of Pavlović taking part in the training session: Aleksandar Pavlović back in team training after recovering from a bruised knee pic.twitter.com/ZwadXDn5Mr— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 13, 2024Pascal Groß and Robert Andrich formed the double pivot for Julian Nagelsmann on Friday, but all signs point to Pavlović getting a chance to make his first start for Germany. Portugal Training Sessions and Press Conference Photo by Gualter Fatia/Getty Images Palhinha is having a difficult season so far... It has been well publicized that João Palhinha has struggled for game time at Bayern Munich, starting just one of the club’s nine games so far this season. But, as a vital part of Portugal’s squad in the 2024 EUROs, it was rather surprising to see Palhinha omitted from Portugal’s matchday squad in a 3-1 Nations League win over Poland. Why was this the case? Did his rough start with Bayern Munich already hurt his case with the national team?Head coach Roberto Martinez provided the reason: “I think the context is important. We have three days and two demanding games,” the former Everton head coach explained, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Palhinha was given permission to miss the first training session and it was important to have two more training sessions before being in the squad. He will be there against Scotland. It’s about trying to manage the players.”Palhinha did indeed request to miss the first training session due to personal reasons. Martinez’s explanation makes sense, but it would not be the first time that a coach used such an explanation as a smokescreen for a bigger reason. If Martinez is truly still counting on the former Sporting CP player, then perhaps he will make an appearance during Portugal’s next match on Tuesday.Looking for a quick discussion of the game? Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Michael Steele/Getty Images Will Leroy Sané extend his deal with Bayern Munich? Chelsea, Gunners, NUFC chasing Sané (Sports Mole)Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané will see his contract expire after this season and if he does not re-up with the Bavarians, it could turn into a bidding war between Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, and Newcastle United: Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly both interested in signing Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sané next year. There is currently huge uncertainty surrounding the Germany international’s future at Allianz Arena, as his current contract is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.Discussions between Sané and Bayern over a possible new deal are said to have stalled, which could lead to him leaving the Munich giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.As it stands, foreign clubs will be able to speak to Sané in January, and according to Fichajes, both Arsenal and Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League. The report claims that Newcastle United are also in the mix, although the Magpies will likely need to secure European action for next season to stand a chance of winning the race for Sané.Sané’s status will be something to follow in the coming months. At one point, it felt like it would be a shoo-in for Sané and Bayern Munich to extend their relationship. Now...there is at least a little bit of doubt. Van Djik wants LFC extension (Football Insider via 90Min.com)Contrary to some reports, Liverpool FC center-back Virgil Van Djik might actually want a contract extension with the club:Virgil van Dijk has told friends and family he is keen to extend his time at Liverpool, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-2 Germany (Bavarian Football Works)Well, that was easy. While it wasn’t a 5-0 drubbing like the Hungary game during the last international break, Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany side demonstrated their superiority while barely allowing Bosnia and Herzegovina an inch. In this episode, we discuss the following:The lineup that Julian Nagelsmann picked, and the absence of a certain Bayern Munich player. Deniz Undav may be the striker that Germany are looking for. How a terrible pitch kept Germany from playing their game. Why you can say “a win’s a win” after this one. Alexander Nübel didn’t exactly cover himself in glory, but that’s not the point. Why games like these clog up the calendar and are simply ridiculous.Barca’s future likely to be without De Jong (ESPN)The rumors about a schism between FC Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong have been going on for a couple of years now. Is this actually the time that they might be legit? Maybe: Barcelona could let Frenkie de Jong leave in the summer to avoid losing the midfielder leave on a free transfer when his contract ends in 2026, reports Diario Sport. There are debates about whether or not the 27-year-old Netherlands international has lived up to the lofty expectations placed upon him when he arrived from Ajax Amsterdam in 2019, and those are arising again now that he is returning from injury. Having been out since April, De Jong made his return off the bench during the 5-0 win over Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League and followed that up with another substitute appearance in a 3-0 LaLiga victory against Alaves. He still won’t be going away on international duty, which gives him more time to get up to speed. Once he does, there will be discussions about who should start in important matches, with midfielders Marc Casadó and Pedri having impressed so far this term.De Jong’s situation is said to be “delicate” in this sense, as he has always been seen as an indisputable presence in the team whenever fit. Questions to be answered will include whether he is compatible with Pedri and Dani Olmo, whether he is a better pivot than Casadó, and what his best position is to get the most out…

Running is a common aspect of the sport and while doing that extensively might seem tiring, it should not be a problem for Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany if it means his team gets results that way.“It’s not about running more. If we’re scoring goals, then it’s all good to me,” Kompany stated (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “It’s more about how we act in and out of possession. The players are very fit and we switch a lot too. A top player has to do that, there’s no other way.”Players like Joshua Kimmich who has high stamina and tactically flexibility are what Kompany likes. It’s never simply staying in one position and carrying out its respective role; getting your opponents to second-guess your move helps gain an advantage.

Germany Training Session And Press Conference Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Germany has had a hell of a time with its roster in recent days. The list of walking wounded continues to grow. Coming into the break, Julian Nagelsmann knew he would have to do without the following players: Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Arsenal FC’s Kai Havertz, FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen, and West Ham United’s Niclas Füllkrug. Since then, Nagelsmann has lost RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs and David Raum, VfB Stuttgart’s Chris Führich, and maybe Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović, too.For Nagelsmann, he can only deal with things as they go along. “Aleks has a minor bruise on his knee because he took a knock [in training]. He would have played [against Bosnia] under certain circumstances, yes. He’s having a very good season. I hope he can play on Monday if he is healthy,” Nagelsmann told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). As for Fuhrich, he left the national team camp and is expected to be out 2-3 weeks with an adductor injury. Looking for a quick discussion of the game? Check out our postgame podcast!
