Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by James Gill - Danehouse/Getty Images Will Eric Dier get a start this weekend vs. VfB Stuttgart? Dier’s future prospects at Bayern are grim (@Plettigoal via @iMiaSanMia_GER)Eric Dier was a godsend for Bayern Munich last season when he arrived in January. While little was expected from the former Tottenham Hotspur star, all the Englishman went on to do was earn a starting role and team with Matthijs de Ligt to stabilize a backline that was leaking oil for months before Thomas Tuchel — finally — chose to address the situation. However, season two in Bavaria has not gone quite as well for Dier, who just cannot break through under new coach Vincent Kompany. As of now, it looks like Harry Kane’s pal will be leaving the club during the summer: Eric Dier plays a big role in the FC Bayern dressing room and is very popular. However, he plays no role under Vincent Kompany, so the signs point to a separation in the summer. [ @Plettigoal , TUdS]Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae have been up-and-down so far this season and with Upamecano working his way back from an injury, Dier could get called into action this weekend against VfB Stuttgart. If that happens, will he be able to show enough to convince Kompany that he has another good option to use?Madrid taking a look at Frimpong (@Plettigoal)Real Madrid has — allegedly — already locked up Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies to join the club in 2025/26, but is there another Bundesliga defender also on the team’s radar? It appears so, as Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has been linked to the LaLiga powerhouse: Understand that Real Madrid are monitoring the situation of Jeremie #Frimpong for next summer - confirmed ✔️

That route could be necessary to negotiate with Thuram and his entourage, as Inter are not keen on moving him on.Even so, he remains on the list of players that PSG are looking at carefully as they continue to build their post-Kylian Mbappé squad.Juve scoping Openda (La Gazzetta dello Sport via 90Min.com)Juventus reportedly likes RB Leipzig attacker Lois Openda: Juventus are…
VfB Stuttgart v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Bundesliga Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty Images Can Stuttgart extend Bayern’s winless streak? Bayern Munich stumbled into the international break with a disappointing loss at Aston Villa sandwiched between Bundesliga draws against Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt. The schedule doesn’t get any easier as Bayern host Stuttgart before traveling to Barcelona for a high profile clash against Bayern alumni Hansi Flick and Robert Lewandowski.During the three winless matches, Bayern faced quality opponents who opted to defend with a low block to limit space in the final third. Bayern failed to consistently break down or circumnavigate the defensive shell. Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeneß is surely contemplating a similar strategy.“It will always be special to play against Bayern,” Hoeneß told Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “Not just because of my past in Munich, but simply because it’s FC Bayern. They’re still the best, even though they haven’t won the title. They’re playing good and very intense football again this season. We have to show our best side. In Munich we’re not going to face a deep block, there will be man-to-man marking across the entire pitch. We need different strategies.”Stuttgart is also on a three-match winless streak, earning draws against Wolfsburg, Sparta Prague, and Hoffenheim.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on where Bayern Munich stands at the moment, along with updates on the contract situations of Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, plus a breakdown of “The Kompany Rules”? FC Barcelona v BSC Young Boys - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Daniela Porcelli/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images He’s probably their best player, after all. FC Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has been ruled out of the club’s upcoming clash against Sevilla after suffering a hamstring injury during the international break. However, the player is expected to be fit for the Bayern Munich game in the Champions League next week (via ESPN). The 17-year-old Spanish international was subbed off late during his country’s 1-0 win over Denmark on Saturday, and subsequently withdrew from international duty due to a reported hamstring injury. Per ESPN:Barça will not take unnecessary risks with Yamal ahead of two huge games against Bayern and Madrid after the international break.Yamal has started all but one of Barcelona’s games this season under Hansi Flick, coming off the bench during their loss to Osasuna. He has scored 5 goals and assisted 5 times in the campaign so far, putting him ahead of Bayern’s own golden boy Jamal Musiala (who also sat out the international break due to hip issues). Yamal missing the game would be a major blow to Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona, who surely hope to reverse their lopsided record against the German Rekordmeister this season. With the Catalans already reeling from a slew of injuries, they will hope that the youngster will be fit in time for the game. FC Bayern München Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images The former Bayern manager is linked to be the new England manager, but nothing is concrete yet. The FA has yet to find a long-term solution for the managerial position after Lee Carsley took over on an interim basis following Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down after leading England through four major international tournaments.Carsley’s contract with the national team only extends through the three international breaks in 2024, with just one remaining, featuring matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. After England’s 3-1 win over Finland, the former U-21 manager remained reserved about his future, stating that he was hired to manage until the end of the year and intends to fulfill that commitment. There is no clear indication yet whether he will be offered a long-term deal or if he would be interested in one.Meanwhile, several high-profile names have been linked to the England job, including Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, whose contract expires next summer. However, former Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel appears to be the frontrunner. Tuchel, who parted ways with Bayern last spring, is reportedly in negotiations with the FA to become England’s next manager. This move could reunite him with striker Harry Kane and several other players he once managed at Chelsea. When asked about the possibility of Tuchel becoming England’s manager, Kane praised his former Bayern boss while remaining cautious. “Until it’s announced, I can’t really comment, but we’ll wait and see. I know Thomas well from last year. Fantastic coach, fantastic person. I’m sure the FA will reach out when they have more information,” Kane told Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Torben Hoffmann (via @iMiaSanMia).Kane had been a vocal supporter of Tuchel even when the coach lost favor in the Bayern dressing room. It was rumored that Kane and his entourage disagreed with Bayern’s decision to part ways with Tuchel before the season ended, but that chapter is behind them. Perhaps Kane will have the chance to clear the air in an England dressing room under Tuchel’s leadership soon. Germany v Netherlands - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Baumann’s impressive debut might give Nagelsmann food for thought on the future of Germany’s goalkeeping position... For the entirety of Oliver Baumann’s senior career, which spans nearly 15 years now, the German must have believed that he would simply never even come close to an appearance for the senior German national team as Manuel Neuer had a stranglehold on the starting role in goal. But all of a sudden, at the ripe old age of 34, the combination of Manuel Neuer’s retirement Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s horribly unfortunate injury left the door ajar for someone to stake their claim in goal. After Alexander Nübel put forward his case last Friday, it was Baumann’s turn against the Netherlands on Monday. And it turned out great. Speaking after Germany’s win over the Netherlands, in which the former SC Freiburg goalkeeper helped his team collect both a clean sheet and a win, Baumann was clearly brimming with pride and joy: “It was great. The day and the game couldn’t have been more perfect. Playing for my country is a dream come true, I’m very proud of that,” the senior goalkeeper confessed, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “It was really fun out there.”Head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s assessment of Baumann’s performance will not have deterred his mood in the slightest, with the former Bayern Munich boss giving Baumann the best possible German grade on his Germany debut. Has he sealed his spot as Germany No.1 until ter Stegen’s return from injury? He certainly could not have done any more than he already did today to justify such a decision...Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? Germany v Netherlands - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Talk about making a strong first impression... You would be hard pressed to find someone who had a better day against the Netherlands than German national team newcomer Jamie Leweling. A surprise starter, Leweling made the most of his opportunity by scoring the only goal in Germany’s 1-0 victory against the Netherlands. “I found out this morning that I was starting. Of course I was nervous. But in the end it’s football, 11 against 11. On the pitch the nervousness was gone. I’m very happy,” Leweling told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Half-Ghanian, Leweling could have chosen to represent his father’s homeland, but instead of heading toward a career of crushing the hopes of USMNT fans (as Ghana is wont to do) Leweling opted to play for Die Mannschaft. When asked why he made the call, the answer was concise: “Quite simply because I was born and grew up here. I’m German.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? TSG Hoffenheim v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty Images It really might be happening... Like former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann with the German national team and former Tottenham Hotspur boss with the USMNT, Thomas Tuchel is seeking to make the jump to international play to revive his career. Tuchel’s representatives are reportedly deep in talks with the English national team to take over as manager. Tuchel is coming off of a disastrous stint with Bayern Munich where he oversaw a trophyless campaign in 2023/24. Nagelsmann and Pochettino are using the international stage to rejuvenate their respective coaching careers. For Nagelsmann, the move has been aces. Pochettino, however, just took the helm with the United States and it remains to be seen exactly what he can help that group achieve. For Tuchel, this is a chance to take a sleeping giant and push it to new heights: BREAKING: The FA is in talks with representatives of Thomas Tuchel, with the German coach in pole position to become the new England manager pic.twitter.com/j7lWpzWVKg— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) October 15, 2024Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? Germany v Netherlands - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Marvin Ibo Guengoer - GES Sportfoto/Getty Images Is Bayern Munich looking at outside help for goalkeeper? Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper options for the future remain open. Some reports indicate that the Bavarians have interest in Liverpool FC Alisson Becker (via ESPN): Bayern Munich are moving to secure the present and future of their goalkeeping department, according to Sky Sports Deutschland. Despite rumours, that future will not include Liverpool’s Alisson Becker replacing Manuel Neuer.Instead, a contract renewal is still possible for Neuer with initial discussions expected to take place before the end of this calendar year, per the report. The 38-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer of 2025.The current plan is for Alexander Nübel to eventually be Neuer’s successor, with the 28-year-old now on loan at Stuttgart. Bayern can bring Nubel back next summer but would need to let Stuttgart know by spring, and if he doesn’t return until 2026 his contract automatically extends to 2030.Even with that in mind, Bayern are also monitoring FC Cologne’s Jonas Urbig and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen. The 21-year-old Urbig is expected to leave Koln in the summer despite his contract running until 2026. Bayern are expected to have competition from top clubs both in Germany and abroad for Urbig, who is expected to be available for €5m-€7m.However, Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg says that Bayern Munich is really not interested in the Liverpool man: Rumors about FC Bayern and #Alisson are wide of mark! Top and experienced player, but he’s not a topic at Bayern. #LFC Instead and currently, Bayern are open to extend the contract of Manuel #Neuer until 2026 with Alexander Nübel planned as his successor in 2026 at the latest. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Bayern Munich is keeping an eye on Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders: Chelsea’s move for Belgian talented GK Mike Penders was fast to anticipate other clubs, including Bayern who have been scouting Mike for months.Chelsea are confident to see his development as top talent, arriving in July 2025.Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images That would have been a huge mistake. Before the season started, there were rumors that Bayern Munich were ready to sell Joshua Kimmich if the right offer came in. In the end, those whispers amounted to nothing, and the player chose to stay in Munich. Apparently, things were more advanced than we thought. Florian Plettenberg recently confirmed (via @iMiaSanMia) that the club held talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sell Kimmich this summer. The talks didn’t go anywhere, and the player is no longer a candidate to be sold. However, it shows that he isn’t as untouchable as once thought. Bayern Munich are now focusing on extending Kimmich’s contract, which expires next summer. He and Jamal Musiala are currently the club’s top priorities with regard to contract extensions. Alphonso Davies is basically a Real Madrid player already, and talks with Leroy Sané don’t seem to be a priority at the moment. Will Kimmich end up staying at Bayern? Even though the contract talks haven’t gone anywhere, Plettenberg claims that there’s a good chance he’ll stay. We’ll keep an eye on negotiations as they develop. Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Why not? He’s still got it. According to a report by Florian Plettenberg on Sky Sports (via @iMiaSanMia), many at Bayern Munich expect this to be the last season of Thomas Müller at the club before he hangs up his boots for good. However, there is still a chance he might extend — IF he can stay fit, and if the player himself wants to continue. So far, Müller has found it hard to get starts under Vincent Kompany, despite consistent contributions in terms of goals and assists. He is currently playing as a backup to Jamal Musiala, only starting against Eintracht Frankfurt because Musiala was injured. Would Müller extend if such circumstances continue? It seems unlikely, especially given that an extension would necessitate a salary reduction. Still, it’s very early in the season, with plenty of time left for things to change. Thomas Müller already has three goals and three assists this season, the same as Jamal Musiala, in only 325 minutes of playing time. Should Vincent Kompany find more games for the 35-year-old to start, he may yet show his value. Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? TSG Hoffenheim v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty Images Well, he was never one to mince words... According to a report from Sport Bild journalist Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich held a “Leadership Summit” last week with 120 key employees of the club. While that, in and of itself, is not necessarily news, Uli Hoeneß made it newsworthy by engaging in one of his favorite pastimes — dragging Thomas Tuchel: On Monday & Tuesday last week, there was a big meeting at Allianz Arena called ‘Leadership Summit’, where Bayern bosses spoke in front of around 120 employees to discuss the current state of the club. Uli Hoeneß gave a speech where he praised Vincent Kompany and criticized his predecessor Thomas Tuchel harshly. So...what did Hoeneß say? Let’s check it out: Hoeneß is said to have said that Tuchel was a ‘catastrophe’ for the club - the ‘entertainment value’ was completely lost due to his style of football, which annoyed the honorary president. In addition, there were problems in the atmosphere within the team. After he criticized Tuchel, Hoeneß heaped praises on Kompany, who had already impressed him from their first meeting where the coach said: ‘We have to work hard again’. One other point that Hoeneß noted was that Bayern Munich is back to being entertaining once again — and in doing so, offered a staunch defense of Kompany to the critics, who have targeted the manager of late: For Hoeneß, Bayern is also a ‘showbusiness’, and the entertainment is being provided by Kompany’s style of play. Hoeneß is totally convinced of the path the Belgian coach is taking at Bayern. Hoeneß was therefore also annoyed that Kompany’s style was being questioned after the last 3 winless games. ‘FC Bayern cannot always win the Champions League’, he explained and criticized the media that sees Bayern too critically from his point of view. There is no word on whether or not Hoeneß has made himself available to speak at other corporate events, but if he can put Bob from Human Resources on blast, we might need to start a GoFundMe to bring him in.Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? FC Bayern Muenchen And Paulaner Photo Session Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images for Paulaner Will Manchester United notch a Bayern Munich hat-trick? According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @MiaSanMia), Manchester United has interest in three players on Bayern Munich’s roster — Leon Goretzka, Alphonso Davies and Leroy Sané: Manchester United are still keeping an eye on Leon Goretzka. The English club had already enquired about Goretzka in the summer, who is still considered a potential replacement for Casemiro in January. Interestingly, Goretzka is still not considering a move away from Bayern Munich, despite club officials essentially telling him to move on: As of now, however, Goretzka is still not considering leaving Bayern. As previously states, though. Germany v Netherlands - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images He really is such a Bayern Munich fan, isn’t he? Good for him. For those who have followed Aleksandar Pavlović’s career, it may feel as if he had already made his full Germany debut, considering how long he has been around the German national team. Due to various bad luck with injuries and his tonsils, the young footballer from Bayern Munich’s academy was restricted from starting for Germany, even including the 2024 European Championship, since March. His full debut was overdue for over six months and it finally happened in Germany’s 1-0 win over Netherlands. In typical Pavlović fashion, however, his debut was not the focus of his post match statement: “I’m very happy and proud [about my Germany debut]. The fact that we won here in Munich makes me even happier,” the long time, self-professed Bayern fan said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. The Netherlands are always a good opponent. We did very well. It was a great game from us.”Perhaps it was always meant to be that Pavlović’s full Germany debut would take place in the frenetic Allianz Arena as tens of thousands of fans roared the youngster on. If it is the correct beginning to his Germany career, however, he will have to ensure that it does not falter at the first step. Pavlović’s mission with Germany begins again in November; now that he has started, it is time for him to prove he cannot be stopped.Looking for more thoughts and analysis from Germany’s 1-0 victory over the Netherlands? Germany v Netherlands - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images for VW Only Toni Kroos was missing... The DFB and the German national team held a ceremony to honor four German “legends” ahead of the Germany vs. Netherlands match in the UEFA Nations League. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer, along with Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan were able to attend the pregame festivities, but Toni Kroos could not. Kroos, who retired from Real Madrid and the German national team last summer, was unable to take part in the ceremony due to a previous commitment (which was believed to be an academy event for his son at Real Madrid).
