In one of the most controversial missed calls in recent history, Marc Cucurella blocked an attempt on net with his hand, in extra time of the Germany vs Spain quarter-final at Euro 2024. A penalty that should have been given would have almost certainly sent Germany through to the semifinals, and would have then been the clear favorite to win the tournament. Of course, life isn’t always fair.Julian Nagelsmann recently chimed in on Cucurella admitting the handball and missed call. The Germany coach went on to praise himself for his calmness in the situation. Causing a fight rarely helps the situation so it was better to focus on the rest of the game, despite the end result of the match.“I have to praise myself for how calm I remained in that situation. That’s very uncharacteristic of me. Now I’m not thinking too much about it because I can’t influence it anymore. To this day I don’t understand why the ref didn’t look at it again,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Nagelsmann went on to show his maturity by stating that he is no longer thinking about it. Most German fans have not yet moved on, as it has already left a large scar knowing how special a home tournament victory would have been. With a deal that ends in 2025, no updates have come out from both player and club, and Kimmich’s latest presser quotes prove just that (via @iMiaSanMia): “I’m in contact with the club. We all know what my situation was like 8-10 weeks ago. One had the feeling: ‘when will Kimmich finally be gone?’ - Now things are different again. It’s a very important decision in my career. It should be well thought out. Of course, the past plays a role. And the future does as well.”In terms of Bayern’s—and by extension, Germany’s—performances, the 29-year-old emphasized the importance of winning games whether or not it was “aesthetically pleasing.” “It’s always about winning games”, Kimmich pointed out (via @iMiaSanMia). “When you win games, then there’s calm around the club. When you lose, there will be unrest. We want to continue on our path at FC Bayern and also here with the national team. I think there’s a lot of potential, quality and experience in both teams. We have to find the right mix. We just have to continue winning our games. Everything else is secondary.”

Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano is pretty happy with how things are progressing these days at Säbener Straße. “Things are going very well with my coach at Bayern. I’m very happy that he’s there because he’s helped me progress and I’m very grateful to him. I feel I’ve made a lot of progress compared to last season. He’s doing a lot of video analysis with me, which helps me a lot. We can see that on the pitch,” said Upamecano during a press conference for the France national team (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). When asked about Bayern Munich teammates Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise, the defender offered effusive praise. “(Coman) never doubted himself. He was always self-confident. At the moment he’s playing at an unbelievable level. He’s performing every game - no matter whether as a starter or off the bench, he’s the Kingsley Coman that we all expect. Michael is an incredible player with a lot of maturity. I think he’ll be a big player,” said Upamecano. “I always see (Olise) very happy. I feel he’s making a lot of progress. I’m very happy to be playing with him at Bayern and France. It’s a privilege for me because I’m certain he’ll become a very very big player. Every U-23 squad is allowed to have three players that are over 23-years-old. They are there to provide experience and leadership in a young squad. That was what then-29-year-old midfielder Timo Kern was signed for when Bayern Munich persuaded him to join their U-23 squad from SV Waldhof Mannheim in 2019. A promotion to captain, one 3. Liga title, 138 games, 49 and 23 assists later, Kern is set to retire from his footballing career shortly before he turns 35 in January, as revealed via Bayern’s official website: Timo Kern (34) will end his active career early. The captain of Bayern II will hang up his football boots at the end of the year and will continue to work for the German record champions as a loan player manager under Richard Kitzbichler. Kern’s player contract would have run until June 2025. The new sporting director of the FC Bayern Campus, Markus Weinzierl, revealed this option was on the table since last summer: “The contract extension last summer [from the summer of 2024 to the summer of 2025] included the option for Timo to leave at his own request during the winter break. Timo has now exercised this option. We would have liked to have seen him continue as a player with us, but we are also very happy that Timo is staying with us in another role in player development.” Kern also added his own insight into why he made this decision: “I had already thought about ending my career in the summer. My family and I had already planned to return to our home in the Palatinate at that time. Now I’m doing it half a year later and I’m really looking forward to my new role as loan player manager.”BFW AnalysisTimo Kern has been a loyal player of the club and so vitally important to the U-23s for over half a decade, but it was clear that he was starting to slow down and that he would end his time at Bayern II sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, this announcement comes as a shock. Kern had hardly slowed down THAT much. His presence on the field as well as captain will be severely missed. As Josep Guardiola once so infamously put it, we cannot replace him. But his role as loan player manager is incredibly interesting. Richard Kitzbichler joined Bayern in the September of 2023, as one of Christoph Freund’s first hires, and though his official role is “coordinator of talent management”, one of his roles was loan player manager. He was the link to the loan players, to give them advice, check in with them, ascertain which loans would suit them best and ensure they felt valued by the club, even while out on loan.Will that complete role now be passed on to Kern? It seems doubtful, as Kern likely does not have the experience to perform the role to the same level just yet as Kitzbichler. Perhaps he will be mentored in the role by Austrian. It would be interesting to see if Kern would establish himself long term in the role. The advantage Kern has over Kitzbichler is that the former has been one of the leading players of the campus for over five years now, while the latter is still fairly new. The current gripe with Sané is that his performances swing wildly between hot and cold and that he’s only good for half a season, but that won’t stop the club from extending the 28-year-old. There is a catch, however:Both Bayern and Leroy Sané want a contract extension beyond 2025. An agreement, however, is not yet in sight. For a new contract, Sané would currently need to take a pay cut of around €2-4m gross per year. A January transfer is off the table. Sané is 100% committed to Bayern.– Florian Plettenberg as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaBFW AnalysisI’ve been saying this idea for a while now and I maintain that it’s a great compromise because Sané still has a lot to offer. It’s just the whole “can’t perform after Christmas” thing that causes folks to have misgivings on his extension. We all know that an in-form Sané performs better than Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, so imagine what one season’s worth of in-form Sané looks like. If he could get past that hump, we’re good.If selling all three wingers for Viktor Gyökeres is on the cards and Vincent Kompany plays a 4-2-2-2, however, don’t mind if I do!

According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich has submitted a best-and-final offer to Alphonso Davies: Within the Bayern dressing room, it is said that according to Alphonso Davies, Bayern have made another attempt to keep him and presented him with a seemingly ‘final offer’. The club reportedly told Davies you other take this offer or you can look for another club. The player has not responded yet. Vincent Kompany is a big fan of Davies. Nevertheless, a contract extension is still uncertain as things stand.Davies has been closely linked to Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona and Manchester United have recently gotten firmly into the mix for the Canadian. Jonathan Tah’s attempted transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich was one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer. Negotiations dragged the entire summer long, but neither side were able to agree on a deal before the transfer window slammed shut. One of the agents from the agency representing Tah is Pini Zahavi, who Bayern have had a long history with, having struggled to renew the contracts of star players such as David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski before their moves to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, respectively. This time, however, Zahavi finds no fault in the Bavarian giants’ negotiations, instead pinning the blame on the reigning Bundesliga champions: “We tried to transfer Tah last summer. Unfortunately, Leverkusen asked for too much money. The idea was to go to Bayern, the club really wanted to get him. We would have liked to bring Leverkusen a transfer fee. Now they will not get any money,” Zahavi simply summed up, via @iMiaSanMia. “In my opinion, that was a mistake. Now the situation is very simple: Jonathan will go to a big club next summer. And Bayern still have a very good chance of getting him.”In less than two months at the time of writing, Tah is allowed to speak with any club to leave on a Bosman. Thomas Müller is one of the greats of football, after nearly wrapping up his legendary career. While Müller hasn’t announced any official retirement plans, it is fair to say his remaining years could be counted on one hand. Even if he never played another game, Müller would retire a legend and one of the most important players in Bayern Munich’s history.Müller’s career has been a special one, and filmmakers have chosen it for a new documentary. Amazon Prime has now announced the film will release in the spring of 2025.A 90-minute documentary over Thomas Müller's career will be released by Amazon in spring on Prime Video. A camera crew has been following Müller since summer 2023. It will also include many private moments with his family and friends [@cfbayern]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 29, 2024Although Müller confirmed this in 2023, we now have an official release date period and reason to start getting excited. It is reported that there will be video of private moments with his family and friends, and of course, footage of all the significant moments of his career. A career such as his will hopefully get a documentary as special as his time in football. PSG, United prepping big offers for Kane (El Nacional)Harry Kane made the move to Bayern Munich to win trophies. In season one, that did not work out, but the Bavarians are not operating at a different level than anyone else in the Bundesliga (which is having a down year). That elusive first trophy should be there for the taking this season. If Kane does win, would that affect his decision-making for his future? Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United seem to think so: Harry Kane has long been established as one of the best players on the planet, and at Bayern Munich he continues to prove it. After a lifetime in the colors of Tottenham Hotspur, in 2023 he finally decided to move on and start an adventure in a more ambitious team, in which he could play in the Champions League every year, and fight for titles. But for the moment, his record is still blank.Although everything seems to indicate that this year will finally put an end to that drought, as they are once again leading the Bundesliga ahead of the rest of the pursuers, such as RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen or Borussia Dortmund. The English star has made the departure of Robert Lewandowski a thing of the past, and may even improve on the Pole’s record, something that seemed practically impossible. However, his adventure at the Allianz Arena may be short-lived.Because, against all odds, a rumor has gained strength that ensures that two of the most powerful entities on the planet intend to assault his incorporation next summer, and pay an astronomical figure. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, who are looking for an offensive reference of absolute guarantees, and would have already prepared about 130 million euros to get the former Norwich City or Leicester City player to leave Germany.Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Luis Enrique regret not having recruited a striker to cover the absence of Kylian Mbappé, now at Real Madrid. They need to make amends for this mistake, and plan to make a move in the market to bring in a galactico, with Kane as the leading candidate at the moment. But at the Parc des Princes they will face competition from another top club that is not living a good institutional moment.A transfer to PSG seems unlikely given Kane’s difficulty in learning German so far. Trying to switch gears and learn French might just be too much for the striker and his family. Manchester United, however, could be alluring to Kane, who could return to England as a conquering hero on a quest to break the Premier League goal-scoring record...and revive a flounder club in United. Bayern Munich delivered in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with a decisive 3-0 victory over Norway Toppserien side Vålerenga on Tuesday. The win keeps the Bavarians in pole position to qualify top of the group.Bayern got the scoring started early. Klara Bühl showed incredible vision, cutting in from the left flank before hitting a cross-field drive that found its way onto the head of a streaking Pernille Harder at the back post — in just the 10th minute. As spectacular a goal from construction to execution as you will see and one well worth checking out in the highlights:Things did not get much better for the visitors. Weronika Zawistowska was brought down inside the box while chasing a long ball and earned the Bavarians a penalty, which Giulia Gwinn tucked home on 17 minutes.From there the sides settled into a detente: Vålerenga, toothless but unyielding; Bayern, in control but not scoring. Pernille Harder looked to have turned in a second goal after a mad scramble past the hour mark but it was eventually chopped off. However it did not appear that the sense there could only be one victor ever changed. The Norwegian side ended with just one shot on target and Bayern finally settled matters decisively in stoppage time, through a wonder strike on the volley from Sarah Zadrazil. Former Bayern Munich player Angelo Stiller has had a growing role in each game for Germany, since his first appearance in September. The Stuttgart midfielder played a large part in Germany’s win over the Dutch in Munich and is now considered a possible starting midfielder going forward. Unfortunately, that role will now be postponed as Stiller has left the German camp due to an injury.The DFB reported that Stiller has left the team after muscular issues and will miss both the games in the November window. Bayern Munich winger Nestory Irankunda has not made his breakthrough to the senior team just yet, but that does not mean he is not accumulating some wear-and-tear. Because of that, Australia left Irankunda off of its roster for this international break. “We just feel it’s an opportunity for him to settle in at Bayern, get the development that he needs there, the growth and (for him to) just settle into a new culture (and) a new language. He’s learning to be a good young professional at one of the best clubs in the world. It’s a fantastic opportunity. We’re all proud of him, we’ll monitor him and support him and hopefully watch him grow for the next phase,” said coach Tony Popovic.Right now, Irankunda is not necessarily needed on Bayern Munich’s first team, but there could come a time this season where the team might need to call his number. Because the Germany international is solely focused on a move to either Bayern Munich or FC Barcelona: Inter and Juventus have recently contacted Jonathan Tah’s management but were both turned down. The defender has no plans of moving to Italy. His decision next summer is expected to be between Bayern and Barcelona. Both clubs had already shown serious interest last summer. Hansi Flick is pushing to sign him for Barça. According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Paul Wanner’s future at Bayern Munich could be on the wing — whether he likes it or not.However, for Wanner to stick around, the club will likely need to convince him by selling off at least one of the trio of Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman: Paul Wanner could return to Bayern next summer and be part of the squad if one of Sané/Coman/Gnabry is sold and no high-profile player such as Florian Wirtz or Xavi Simons is signed. Clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are showing interest in Wanner, but Bayern have him on their plans. Even though he’s not a classic winger and prefers to operate centrally, Wanner - who earns just around €2m per year - would help the club save big wages in comparison to the wing trio. Wanner has the physical traits and skill-set to play wing if he wants to. Given his creativity and nose for goal, that could be a very enticing option for the Bavarians. Bayern Munich is in the market for another center-back — but after failing to close the deal with Jonathan Tah in the summer, could be at the risk of losing him to La Liga giants Real Madrid.Tah, 28, stars for Bayer Leverkusen but has an expiring contract when the current 2024/25 season is over. Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where this Bayern Munich’s U-17, U-19, and U-23 matches of the past weekend are recapped, line ups are provided and highlights to each match are hyperlinked on top of their respective score lines. Due to the U-19s not playing a match over the weekend, the midweek UEFA Youth League fixture against SL Benfica will instead be recapped. Unfortunately, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. The team was unbeaten in 6 games, having won 5 of them and within touching distance of the top of the table. Furthermore, the injury list is starting to get shorter. Benjamin Ballis and Davide Dell’Erba were both fit to participate in the match while Asp Jensen and Ličina are back in team training. Curiously, both Nestory Irankunda and Jonah Kusi-Asare were both not in the squad despite participating in the UEFA Youth League in midweek.Yet the match itself was so desperately disappointing. A shift to adopt various elements of the playstyle of Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern, was very evident against SV Wacker on the previous weekend, in which Bayern’s U-23s absolutely dominated possession and wore the opposition down over time before hitting 5 goals past them. Various principles such as defensive midfielder Luca Denk slotting in to the right of a back 3 in possession, intense gegenpressing, inverted full backs and fluid movement from the forwards were all very clearly carried over from the Belgian coach.But these principles were more difficult to identify against Ansbach. On a terrible pitch, Bayern struggled to string more than 5 passes together, the team remained in a standard 4-2-3-1 build up formation in build up the majority of the time and the gegenpressing was not very coordinated. Ergo Bayern II struggled, conceding big chances time and again against a relegation threatened side while not creating nearly enough in attack.This result sees Bayern II drop to 4th in the table, 6 points adrift of top spot with a game in hand.Bayern U-19 3-3 SL Benfica U-19Bayern lineup (with subs): Klanac – Manuba (46. Yet there are very many positives to take from this match. Head coach Peter Gaydarov spoke ahead of the match how Benfica is not just the oldest team in the tournament, but in his opinion the best. Benfica’s superb academy is certainly no secret and this batch of players is so very mature, with just a single 17-year-old in the squad with 18 and 19-year-old players. Meanwhile Bayern has one of the younger sides in the tournament.Despite this daunting task, however, Bayern acquitted themselves very well.
