During Germany’s 7-0 pummeling of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a curious play happened in the 83rd minute when Borussia Dortmund midfielder Pascal Groß appeared to be on his way to making it 8-0...until Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry made a deft...stop?This is how Sky Sport described the play: It would have been 8-0 in a memorable Nations League match for the German national team - but “defender” Serge Gnabry involuntarily prevented an even bigger victory for the DFB team against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 7-0 (3-0) win in Freiburg.The Munich player slid across the wet grass in front of the opponent’s goal to reach the ball when Pascal Groß swung - and Gnabry unfortunately slid into his shot. The ball landed on his back and bounced back into the field (83’).Like a good teammate Groß took Gnabry’s defense in stride. “We made a few jokes about it - he defended it superbly. Serge is an attacker and wanted to score himself. The fact that two or three players were there and wanted to score shows how we approached the game,” Groß told Fussball News journalist Christopher Michel (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Germany returned in roaring fashion in Nations League action with a 7-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, if anything, could have gotten even more out of hand. Julian Nagelsmann looks like he is at the helm of a juggernaut. The former Bayern Munich coach raised eyebrows when he declined club openings and eventually took on the national team post but the turnaround has been extraordinary.Five players scored today: Jamal Musiala (2’), Tim Kleindienst (23’, 79’), Kai Havertz (37’), Florian Wirtz (50’, 57’), and Leroy Sané (66’), with two braces and many near misses among them. To say this was a comprehensive blowout hardly does it justice. Germany scored before anyone slightly late to the game had turned it on, and they just kept scoring. And scoring. And scoring. A team this dominant, that parks themselves in possession in the final third of the opponent’s side of the field, does not usually feature on the counter or enjoy space but here was Germany, winning possession in key moments and flipping the switch from defense to attack instantly. Flooding one area of the pitch just to open up a switch or cross to a free man on the opposite side. Germany is good. How about that. How long can Nagelsmann and company keep this run going? Neuer expected to play one more season (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia)According to a report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich and Manuel Neuer could be working on a deal to keep him in between the sticks for one more season: Alexander Nübel’s loan contract at Stuttgart runs until June 2026. Bayern have a clause to cut the loan short, which can be activated until 30 April 2025. However with the exception of an injury to Manuel Neuer, Bayern are not expected to make use of the clause as the plan is for Neuer to extend his contract and continue as #1 next season. Neuer, who has not been at his best for portions of this season so far, already retired from the German national team in hopes of being better prepared for the grind of the club season. If Oliver Kahn could give Neuer any advice, it would be to set a date and start planning for the end. ”After you retire from the national team, you fall into a hole and ask yourself: What’s the goal now, what can I still achieve? I am therefore not surprised that Manuel is not showing the kind of performance in every game this season we are used to from him. He’s still able to display his world class level. But to do that consistently is always a big challenge. He has to define a clear goal for himself,” Kahn told Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “When I retired from the national team in 2006, I clearly defined - for FC Bayern, but also for myself: two more years and then it’s over.
