The British Prime Minister presented a plan for the development of the armed forces, promising to allocate an additional £15 billion for defense over the next four years, the publication recalls. However, as it turned out, funding is provided only for £10.3 billion, while the authorities expect to find an additional £4.7 billion only after the adoption of the 2026 budget.
According to The Telegraph, if Andy Burnham does indeed succeed Sturmer as Prime Minister in the coming weeks, it will be up to him to find the missing funds to fulfill the already announced defense commitments.
“So much has been postponed until the 2030s… What's particularly important is that we don't know if this money will be available. The only thing that's been agreed is funding until 2030, and everything else depends on the spending plan,” said Shadow Defense Minister James Cartlidge.
The Ministry of Defense, as the author of the article writes, has been tasked with finding an additional £10.7 billion in savings through reforms and reductions in administrative expenses.
