If the Fed cuts the interest rate by 0.25% instead of 0.5%, it will initially shock the dollar index. However, since the expectation is a 0.5% cut, a 0.25% reduction will actually be positive for the dollar index. Therefore, a 0.25% cut is very positive for the dollar.

On the other hand, a 0.5% cut would be harsh on the dollar index. Such a significant reduction would likely cause gold prices to soar, dollar-denominated currencies to weaken.
