Rosh Hashanah brings the question of whether, and to what extent, we can truly change ourselves to the forefront. Chasidut teaches that there is a balance between two main approaches to this issue. The first approach suggests that we can change ourselves from the very root, fundamentally transforming our character. The second approach holds that we can only refine and elevate our existing traits, without altering our essential nature.
