Hot take, but I feel the same: too many SONY games are third person open-world story-driven fantasy/sci-fi whatever.

Software recommendations are very personal but this one may be very handy: Vivaldi browser (created by the original Opera founder) just received the update with Workspaces. Even before Vivaldi created the perfect tab groups, this feature goes much further:
1. You can manually make workspaces for different sides of your life and switch between them for better focus
2. You can automatically assign new tabs for specific workspace (for example, by domain)
Under the hood it's chrome on steroids and without Google.
There's a certain progress with proper audio distribution in Godot 4 3D scenes: the feature will be available on asset store

Old quests were bizarre but modern games can learn a lot from them:
Imagine one day that has three different solutions and outcomes that the majority of people will never see. It's insane attention to the details to build up motivations and write down all possible routes properly. Baldur's Gate 3 and Disco Elysium have the similar approach.

PS. Her performance as Dora was memorable, as well as the recent Sweet Girl movie on Netflix.

And now #GodotEngine is the third most used publicly available game engine among GDC 2024 visitors with about 3% of the audience (compared to 33% votes for Unreal and Unity each).
Meanwhile CryEngine and O3DE (ex Lumberyard) fell below 1% and previously popular GameMaker is also out of charts.

GameStar sources confirmed that during 2023 Piranha Bytes tried to find the new owner and failed. THQ Nordic were supporting it as long as they could and tried to protect it from Embracer Group.
Unfortunately, last December all employees were fired (it will take time due to local labor laws, but technically "the office is empty", as the source said).
Embracer Group is still hoping to sell ELEX to somebody and for now, they are keeping the company as a shell for this deal.
The Gothic Remastered is developed in Spain by a different company and wasn't affected by this decision.
If you missed the cringe: Rockstar is trying to sue Remedy over "R in the logo". This is the most brilliant illustration for the topic. Thanks, Internet!

Epic Store requires a lot of #UIUX improvements: even the most basic things like installation pop-up are incomplete. How would the user know the required space for the game? Is there enough on my G drive? And the case is even worse for limited internet users — knowing the download size is forbidden knowledge.
Honestly, it's not about free games giveaways to get loyalty at this point, but about the service that will be somewhat usable (at least for these free games).
Cascadeur animation software is now being ported to Apple mobile devices. The project that allows to make physically correct animations for games and media will become even more accessible.
For me it looks rather like a gimmick to promote the primary desktop version. All the touch inputs on the iPad are not accurate enough and their demo video only proves that.

The creators of Risen, ELEX, and Gothic games are being silent for a few months in a row. Even the official website of Piranha Bytes is now a logo on a white page. Last November was the last podcast, where they promised to come back next week.
Since the studio is a part of THQ Nordic and Embracer Group, it may be a part of yet another economical measures.
ELEX 2, Risen, and Gothic were all memorable. The original ELEX and other games were at least worth trying. Let's hope that the studio isn't going to be shut down.
PS. Gothic Remastered is developed by another studio. And the page about ELEX 3 is gone from the German government co-funded projects list (yep, these games were supported by the state).
UPD: Based on the new data the government support is still active, but the codename has changed. The company is indeed facing certain upgrades, but not being shut down, apparently.
Horses in Dragon Age Inquisition do all of the above: the game had to be optimized for the old generation of consoles and assets streaming wasn't fast enough to make real sprinting

Volumetric Clouds for #GodotEngine 4.2+
Unlike many previous attempts, this one is fairly fast and may be used for real games (and not just for high-end demo scenes).

Yet again #Unity is firing people, this time is the biggest: 25% of what's left after previous attempts (or about 1800 people by March of 2024).
Markets are accepting the change: share prices are growing. But will it truly help in the long run?
