Yet another demo project by Wojtek Pe on Godot 4. This time with Quixel assets and some custom tools!
It was just okay, but then he entered the cave and indirect lighting kicked in 🔥

🤣 LMAO! But for real, how they pulled off such a physics?

We are imposing the ban for "AI generated gameplay" links in the chat to save mental health of our community. And Tim Sweeney supports that!
These epileptic hallucinations are NOT PLAYABLE, nor watchable. They can't achieve consistent scene even when they ripped off millions of hours of Minecraft gameplay.

Well-deserved!
It's hilarious that 1260% value doesn't fit into the designed area obviously made for double digits.

A quick overview of new and upcoming #VR games. Metro seems the most interesting to me, it reminds me of both Metro Exodus and Half-Life Alyx!

And if you have an itch to play a questionable big game, Hogwarts Legacy is 70% off on Steam. Have no idea if it's worthy, I just bought it and believe they are in the same category of “it's pretty, but...” as Dragon Age (which I'll also buy on sale later on, when it will be discounted).

A quick recap of the new Steam video capturing and editing tool:
First of all, it's not a multi track editing software, they are unfortunately not replacing DaVinci Resolve, Premier Pro, or Vegas Pro.
You can quickly capture, cut a desired fragment, and share it with friends or the global community.
Video capturing can run all the time (to store a recent 30-60-90 minutes, or as much as your drive can handle) or be activated manually. It should not affect performance, since it runs on AMD and NVIDIA hardware video encoders (but Intel isn't supported and its owners will run on CPU).
Fortunately, it's not relying on Windows-specific libraries, so you can also use it on Steam Deck, that previously was not very capable for any video capture. And probably still isn't: the screen is only 1280 by 800 pixels, while modern content platforms prioritize 4K.

And #NVIDIA asks its users to upgrade GeForce GPU drivers to version 566.03, NVIDIA RTX, Quadro, and NVS of the R565 driver branch to 566.03, R550 to 553.24, and R535 to 538.95. The same goes for Tesla.
A significant vulnerability has been discovered and patched out. Without new drivers attackers can raise their permissions in the system to higher levels.
The issue is present on Linux as well, but drivers update there is a little more sophisticated.
It's #Free and official book from #Unity to learn URP (Universal Render Pipeline), which is usually utilized for games, aiming for wide hardware support, VR, and mobile devices.
Читать полностью…UPD: According to BioWare, they borrowed the technology called “Strand Based Hair” from EA Sports. Which means, it's a custom solution, and it was already integrated into the engine (and utilized for EA Sports Football).
I want the next Battlefield with the same hair quality 😜
It's highly likely, that they are using TressFX by AMD, upgraded (still under Open Source) by Unity China under HairFX brand. And yes, you can add this to your games!
Crazy enough, there's Chinese Unity that is a separate entity and makes even more nice stuff than the main one. This plugin, for example, works well with Unreal and seems like it was also integrated into Frostbite engine (DICE/EA).

Here's how to fix blurry image (due to TAA) on PC:
1. Launch the game, boot it up fully, set graphics that you want, then close
It's required so all settings files will be created
2. Open this location
(Replace YOUR USERNAME)
C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
3. In Engine.ini add this to SystemSettings:r.TemporalAA.Algorithm 0
r.TemporalAA.HistoryScreenPercentage 200
r.TemporalAA.Upsampling 1
r.TemporalAACatmullRom 0
r.TemporalAAFilterSize 0.09
r.TemporalAASamples 2
r.TemporalAACurrentFrameWeight 0.6
4. Save file, right click, properties, enable Read Only, apply
It will prevent the game from re-writing your custom settings
It works with other Unreal Engine 5 games too! #UE5 #UnrealEngine

On its third day, Dragon Age The Veilguard is still growing in concurrent players on Steam and still among top sellers. Let's see tomorrow, how far it goes!

But to balance it out:
It's insane, how many features I take for granted. For a few months I wasn't using Unreal and was exclusively in Godot 4.
Today I was in Unreal shader graph and a) Dragging the node into the linking line does nothing (in Blender and Godot it places the node in between). And b) All values in the UE shader graph are floats, you can only assign min, max, and default, but not the STEP. It makes editing the value in instance a complete mess — everything has SIX DIGITS after the comma.
You want values to be with .2 accuracy? Nope! Enjoy .000001 and it will recalculate it on every tiny mouse move. Integers are also not supported in visual shaders of Unreal. Why? Who needs this dumb optimization, right!
