Ten years ago this month, the retro side-scrolling action game Shovel Knight made its debut. To celebrate the anniversary, Yacht Club Games live-streamed an event that featured two big announcements. The first was a new definitive version of the game, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX. And the second piece of news was confirmation that a Shovel Knight sequel is also in development. Shovel of Hope DX is coming to Steam, and it features a number of enhancements that weren't present in the original Shovel Knight. To start, gamers can choose between 20 playable characters, from Shovel Knight and Shield Knight to their adversary, the Enchantress. Those aren't simply cosmetic changes, as each character has their own abilities and play styles. "For other Fallout games in the future, you know obviously I can't talk about those right now but I would say sort of rushing through them or we need to get stuff out that is different than the work we're doing in 76, you know we don't feel like we need to rush any of that you know right now," Howard said in an interview with MrMattyPlays. "The Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling. [I] totally get the desire for a new kind of mainline single-player game. Look, those things take time. I don't think it's bad for people to miss things. The announcement refers to it as a sequel to Lords of the Fallen, so it may not actually be called "Lords of the Fallen 2."It's unclear if Epic is funding the game's development similar to how it did for Remedy's Alan Wake 2. A couple of friends--nerdy goody-goody Vivian and her goth pal Amy--sneak into school after-hours to perform a séance. The school has a creepy history, after all, thanks to a fire a few years earlier that claimed the lives of several students. It's a bit morbid and disrespectful to try to contact the spirits of a bunch of kids in the school library, but hey, teenagers are morbid and disrespectful.I played a short demo of Fear The Spotlight at Summer Game Fest 2024's Play Days event (https://www.gamespot.com/summer-game-fest-2024/), and at first, that was the thing that stuck with me most--at least, at first. Sneaking through the halls of the school and listening to conversations between protagonist Vivian and Amy, the whole thing felt pretty natural and realistic. Goth kid befriends nerd and the pair get into trouble together--I'm sure a lot of people have that exact backstory in their lives somewhere.Fear The Spotlight matches a 1990s teen horror story with a 1990s survival-horror aesthetic. The 2024 Formula One season is finally heating up. Max Verstappen will probably still win a fourth successive driver's championship after the final race in December, but at least the rest of the field is making life more taxing for the dominant Dutchman and his Red Bull team. Recent races have been more competitive and unpredictable, with multiple teams battling for first place in any given race weekend. It should be the perfect time for F1 24 to launch, but the same excitement generated by the real-life product doesn't quite apply to Codemaster's latest. It's still an excellent racing game, especially when you factor in an overhauled Driver Career mode, but its overt familiarity means there are fewer reasons than ever to upgrade if you own F1 23.
