If you're a part of The Sims community, you know there are dozens of different kinds of "Simmers," as Maxis affectionately calls us. You have the luxury-focused "motherlode" spammers, the architects, the storytellers, the folks who find comfort in watching a simple family live out their simple life, the ladder-deleters, and more. Yet even heartbroken players executing their revenge fantasies are not the most depraved of all Sims players. No no. It's the Wicked Whims community who take that crown.Wicked Whims, for the unacquainted, is a popular mod that adds graphic nudity to The Sims 4 as well as just about everything you can do while graphically nude. Like, everything. Not that I would know because obviously I've never installed it. That would be indecent. Obviously.But if I had installed it, I would be able to tell you that The Sims 4's upcoming Lovestruck expansion certainly doesn't come close to being as colorful as WW. However, it does add just enough spice to put that "Rated T for Teens'' label to the test and contains some concepts we've seen in Wicked Whims' less-spicy companion: Wonderful Whims. And overall, The Sims 4 experience is made much better for it. On top of adding a healthy dose of lust to the game, Lovestruck adds a whole lot of love to the game. The First Descendant is a bad video game that's occasionally fun. These fleeting moments of joy speak to the potential of the game's bedrock, where snappy combat ekes out glimpses of delight amidst a torrent of disappointment and frustration. Everything surrounding the game's fast-paced shooting is painfully dull, tedious, and egregiously predatory. The First Descendant is a free-to-play, third-person looter shooter that feels like it was designed to please shareholders rather than the people playing it. It's derivative and soulless, bereft of new ideas outside of the myriad ways it attempts to extract money from its player base. It's a foul example of a game designed around monetization, even in a market saturated with freemium looter shooters.It doesn't start on good footing, either. The First Descendant's story is convoluted and sterile, but the basic premise places you as one of the titular Descendants--a group of humans with unique abilities passed down to them from their fallen ancestors. You're tasked with fighting for the survival of humanity against an invading alien threat known as the Vulgus, who traveled to the colonized planet of Ingris in search of an infinite energy source.These interdimensional invaders come in all shapes and sizes, with very little in common regarding their visual design. Some look like gray-skinned humans; others are grotesque creatures with large glowing claws. There are sleek and smooth-edged robots, but also clunky ones, too. Some are made to resemble humanoid lizards, while others are floating orbs that shoot lightning. There's no cohesion or unifying theme to the Vulgus. According to a recent report from retro gaming site Time Extension (https://www.timeextension.com/news/2024/07/rockstar-came-extremely-close-to-releasing-the-warriors-on-gba), Rockstar came extremely close to releasing a GBA port of the game around 2005, but it was ultimately canned.The Time Extension piece attributes the information to an anonymous former Rockstar Games employee. That employee says that the game was essentially finished when it was canceled in 2005, and that it used tech from Rockstar Leeds' GBA port of Max Payne, including the game engine. The piece also states that there's at least one copy of the game out there, but it hasn't yet seen a release due to potential legal concerns. According to the source, the GBA Warriors had four-player co-op through the console's link cable, and it was "fun to play." However, it never saw the light of day because the PSP was gaining momentum, and Rockstar was decidedly on the Sony side of the platform war. The employee also cites Nintendo's apparent dislike for promoting M-rated games as a factor in the decision. The franchise has been away for 10 years, and it seems people were really excited for it to come back. EA announced today that more than 2.2 million unique players played the game during its early-access period, with an additional 600,000 people trying the game through the EA Play trial.The early access period began July 15 for people who bought the $100 deluxe edition or tried the game via the 10-hour EA Play trial. Today, July 19, the game's $70 standard edition arrives.EA's last college football game before this was 2013's NCAA Football 14. EA and the NCAA broke off their partnership due to a variety of reasons, including legal problems and lawsuits.
