🏆 Pavel Durov announced on his VK page a new contest to find testers of Telegram mobile applications.
A small competition for those who want to join the Telegram team as a remote tester / QA. Age or experience doesn't matter, but you need knowledge of English.
The task is to find and describe three bugs in Telegram for iOS or Android, and also to offer three small but useful innovations for mobile applications.
These three bugs and three innovations should be provided with screenshots / mockups and described in English on one page in telegra.ph (t.me/telegraph). A link to the resulting page should be sent to the bot ContestBot (@ContestBot).
📅 Deadline: Midnight from 5 to 6 September.
🏆Prize: An opportunity to work together to improve Telegram. Winners will be contacted on the 8th of September.

New Rules for Alternative Telegram Clients
Among many other things, Telegram is unique in that independent developers can create their own Telegram clients. The source code of all our apps is open, and we provide a 100% open and free API on the server side for anyone to build upon.
This level of openness and transparency is unprecedented for mass market messaging apps, and we are proud to provide it. Thanks to this, hundreds of third-party client apps were created for Telegram, and some of them have now reached tens of millions of downloads.
As the Telegram ecosystem grows, however, a need for consistency and predictability arises. This is particularly important when the privacy of users is concerned. For example, self-destructing media should always get self-destructed in all apps in the ecosystem. Providing a way to keep self-destructing media on the receiving end may be tempting, but this would break the trust and violate the privacy of the users that share them.
This is why earlier this week we updated the Terms of Service of the Telegram API. Not much has changed: our API is as free and open, as always. However, we’ve added some new guidelines to the ToS, which are aimed at better protecting the privacy and security of the users, preserving expected behavior across the ecosystem, and also at increasing the transparency of how third-party forks work.
If you are a user or a developer of an alternative Telegram client, please have a look at the updated Terms of Service here – https://core.telegram.org/api/terms. We hope that these new guidelines will allow third party developers to make their apps more useful and secure than ever.
💡 How old is Telegram?
Telegram for iOS was launched on August 14, 2013. The alpha version of Telegram for Android officially launched on October 20, 2013. More and more Telegram clients appear, built by independent developers using Telegram's open platform.

Pavel Durov talking about Instant View:
If Instant View is gradually replacing your web-browser for links, its UI should have features that will allow you to bookmark a page to return to it later (bookmarks, tabs, history). And while 2,277 is already a huge and unprecedented number, eventually we’d like to support many more websites. The end goal is to make almost all the stories that you share on Telegram instantly viewable.

The results of the First Instant View Contest are in. Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to all the participants!
Tallying up the final results was no easy task. You've submitted a total of 37,507 templates — and our admins processed 29,482 issues and 402 appeals to find out the winners. This work is now completed and today we're launching Instant View for 2,274 websites! All thanks to you.
The winners
1. Pavel T. and Chuchu shared the first place with 40 winning templates each. The first prize will therefore be split between them, so both Pavel and Chuchu are getting a bonus of $5,000 in addition to the rewards for their templates.
2. Yuri Panarin took the second place with 38 templates and also earns a bonus prize of $5,000.
3. φ came in third with 35 templates. We decided to award a bronze prize of $2,500 to φ as recognition for his extended participation in the development of the IV ecosystem by way of thoughtful issue reports and insightful commentary.
You can see the full results of the contest on this page:
https://instantview.telegram.org/contest/top
We will contact everyone who won a prize about their rewards from the verified account +42454 in Telegram. All rewards will be sent out before August 31, 2017.
Publishing templates
Thanks to the wonderful work you did, we are publishing 2274 templates today. This means that as of this moment, quick and slick Instant View pages become available for all Telegram users who share links to articles on those websites.
Some templates will need to be modified due to layout changes on the original website after the contest ended — these will not be rolled out now. If you're the winner on one of these domains, we kindly ask you to resubmit an updated version of the template as soon as possible.
Template Feedback
When your template is live (shows 'version XX is live' in My Templates), users can send you feedback via the @previews bot that allows them to create issues right from Telegram. These issues will show up in the IV interface in the usual way.
When you submit an update, it will be reviewed by a Telegram admin before the current live version is replaced. The system is pretty basic now, but will evolve as time goes by.
Instant View Evolution
Thank you very much for your support, for all your comments and all the issues you've identified and fixed. You did a great job! Thanks to your input, we've learned a lot about the internet and about the tools we're missing to process all the content on its countless websites. We've tried to come up with solutions when possible, adding interfaces and new options during the course of the contest. Working on this felt much like building an airplane in mid-air. But this was just the first step. Now that we have an airplane — it's time to turn it into a spaceship.
In the coming months we're going to:
- Upgrade the IV engine so that it becomes more flexible, more intelligent and gets better support for more kinds of content.
- Refine our IV criteria for more clarity and consistency, and come up with a brand new super-inclusive checklist.
- Announce the next contest on this channel.
Join us!
We couldn't have come this far without you, and now we need your help in figuring out how to make the next Instant View contest the stuff of legends.
All contestants are welcome to join our new public group on Telegram and post their suggestions for the present and future of the IV infrastructure with the tag #IVsuggestion (hint: if you have plenty to say, using Telegra.ph may be a good idea).

And congratulations again on completing the first stage of this journey!
I haven’t realized how many dedicated users we had in Indonesia until yesterday. I’m still excited by the warm reception in Jakarta. The amount of support and love I got during my yesterday’s visit there is incredible.
In addition to meeting local coders and early adopters of Telegram, I had a lunch with Mr. Rudiantara, the Minister of Communication of Indonesia. Our previous attempts to connect with Mr. Rudi failed because of unreceived e-mails (e-mail is unreliable – let us all switch to Telegram!), but in the end it was all for the best since we managed to establish a great personal connection.
There can’t be any secrets between Telegram and its users, since it’s you guys who made Telegram popular, not governments or shareholders or advertisers (it’s sad other IT companies sometimes forget that). So we organized a quick 15-minute press conference to inform the public about the contents of our meeting with Mr. Rudi.
As a result of this meeting, we've opened a direct channel of communication on Telegram between our teams to quickly eradicate public content that contains terrorist propaganda. We also added Indonesian speakers to our team, and all of this means that we'll be able to process reports about terrorist propaganda within a few hours instead of 1-2 days.
The Minister assured me that he shares our respect for privacy, and the right for privacy is guaranteed by the Constitution of Indonesia. I was happy to hear that, because - unfortunately - governments of some other big countries in Asia don’t always get it (yes, China, I am looking at you now).
We at Telegram are proud that we haven’t disclosed a single byte of private data to any third party since we started – and we are going to keep it that way, with no exceptions anywhere.
I also shared some Telegram growth stats at the quick press event yesterday:
- Every day, 600,000 new users sign up for Telegram globally.
- Every day, 20,000 new users sign up for Telegram from Indonesia.
Thanks for the support, Indonesia and the World!
Since some journalists don’t read my Telegram channel (a shame!), I made a Telegraph story about rumors on Telegram moving servers to weird places. It repeats some of the stuff from the last two posts from here, but could be useful as a summary of all our CDN-related posts. Spread the word!

1️⃣ Send self-destructing photos and videos to any one-on-one chats
If you set a timer, the countdown starts the moment your recipient opens the photo or video you sent. After the time runs out, the photo/video will disappear forever, just like in Secret Chats.
2️⃣ Edit photos even quicker with the improved photo editor.
Completely redesigned our photo editing tools
3️⃣ Add a bio to your profile
Type a few words about yourself in Settings.
4️⃣ Download media from large public channels faster thanks to the new encrypted CDNs
This will increase download speeds for tens of millions of users as CDN caching allows data to travel shorter distances and helps avoid bottlenecks that exist between regions.
5️⃣ Expand the sticker panel to full screen.
Stickers are now easier to use as you can enlarge the scrolling area.
