It’s official — the new "🌲 Forest and trees" mapping model is live. 🎉
Although the update quietly rolled out two weeks ago, we’ve been holding off on the announcement while collecting early usage data and finding the optimal balance of the model input parameters. Now, we’re excited to share what’s new — and what’s already showing great results.
The biggest advantage is that the model now supports individual tree crown detection and delineation, which can be added as an optional layer to the base forest mask. This opens up new possibilities for estimating forest structure and tree heights.
Since becoming the default in #Mapflow, the updated model has sparked users' interest. In this initial period, the Forest + Crowns option was used five times more than the basic version, while in 2024 it was quite the opposite — the Forest with Heights option was used 3 times less than the basic Forest. Damn, it looks like users are really engaged in trying the Crowns + Heights.
We're continuing to fine-tune the model’s input parameters and gather more examples of real-world applications. In the meantime, here are a few project snapshots that highlight what the new model can do...
How we handle low ratings in #Mapflow
When a user rates a result with 1 or 2 stars ⭐️, our support team reviews the case to assess whether a credit refund is warranted. In many instances, low ratings stem from mismatched expectations about the model’s capabilities. In others, the output may be bad—this can happen due to the complexity of globally stable models that must handle a wide variety of patterns and contexts.
Poor-quality input data can also impact the final results, making them less usable. If, upon review, we confirm that the result was of insufficient quality, we refund the credits used for that specific process. Users will receive a notification once the refund is done.
In some cases, we also follow up with an explanation—especially when we’ve identified a clear reason for the poor result or when the results can be improved by adjusting the model parameters.
We welcome all feedback, whether positive or negative—it helps us improve and better align with your expectations. 🤗

OK guys... These are the Maldives! The difference between the images comes from the varying approaches used by different data providers. #Mapbox #Satellite (on the right) omits images for certain areas with minimal landmass, instead filling them in with a background color like water. If you zoom in, you'll see these areas appear blurred around. No need to worry—the Maldives haven’t disappeared underwater!

"Poor urban #tree management can lead to various negative impacts on the #power distribution network. When in contact with the network, trees can cause unplanned power outages, increase the risk of fires and electric shocks, and result in economic losses for the population. To prevent these issues, LOP – Smart Pruning utilizes the Forest Height model developed by #Mapflow to identify trees that are in contact with power lines. This approach ensures efficient and sustainable urban tree management, avoiding unnecessary pruning and improving the safety of the power grid."
LOP is a Brazilian startup specializing in the intelligent management of tree pruning near #powerlines, public lighting, and traffic lights. LOP identifies priority areas for pruning, sends data to field teams, and enables real-time
management and monitoring of pruning activities.

#GeoQuiz Sometimes, we get notifications about the failed AI mapping process due to the unavailability of satellite imagery. This makes us pay attention to some particularly interesting parts of the World. The question is, what part and why is there such a difference between the two imagery basemaps? As usual, you can send us your answers in DM, by email, or using a feedback form on our web-site. To those who answer correctly, we will provide the #Mapflow promo code. Have a nice weekend. 😉

“My imagery” is a new major feature that allows you to collect images in separate collections and use them for AI analysis separately or as a “mosaic”. Using this service, users can easily manage their image collections and reuse images for the next processing and analysis with Mapflow AI models.
We will showcase the new version of plugin for #QGIS supporting this service and update you on the Web app implementation which is in progress.
✅ Join us on the live event for the demonstration and Q&A.
⚠️ Storage limits in #Mapflow will take effect soon ⚠️
We continue to enhance the My Imagery service for Mapflow users, making it easier to upload and manage your data.
While the Web app implementation is still in progress, you can already view your image collections and delete unused ones to free up space in your Mapflow account.
We have a growing number of users uploading thier images to Mapflow to generate maps and analyse them.
Please note that free user storage is limited to 1 GB (see pricing). Once this new page is added to the Mapflow user accounts, these limits will take effect.
✍️ Note: Paid accounts have a 15 GB storage limit, while some customers have custom limits based on their plans.
👆Important: This feature is currently in beta testing. If you experience any issues or incorrect storage limits, please contact our support team, and we will resolve them.
Starting 2025 we are happy to announce the new #Mapflow service we've been working on through the past year. 🥳
Mapflow "My Imagery" is aimed at helping users with multiple images and historical data organize their imagery collections and manage their data so it can be reused for the Mapflow #AI #analysis and #mapping.
"My Imagery" is currently available in the Maplfow #QGIS plugin and #API, and the Web app implementation is in progress.
