🤔 ‘HELPING OUT THE NATION…’
It is not unusual for Tory politicians to claim to have the interests of the people at heart in their political and business activities. But in practice, there is nothing virtuous or magnanimous in their actions, especially when they claim to be “helping out the nation”.
Baroness Mone was made a lifetime member of the House of Lords for her “services to entrepreneurship” by former Prime Minister David Cameron, who has himself now been appointed to the unelected chamber. Like a (very) few Tory zealots, Mone is from a working class background but is desperate to prove her loyalty and credentials as an aspiring member of the ruling class.
She has a record of far-right political views, from supporting deep cuts to welfare benefits to the use of the army against protest or civil disobedience.
The Baroness has now been rumbled as being an integral component in the Johnson/Gove/Hancock cabal during the Covid pandemic. Having initially lied about any involvement, she now admits that she and her family stood to benefit to the tune of £60 million profit from faulty PPE equipment supplied to the NHS.
She described the £60 million as a “good return”.
However, profits from public suffering; phoney Honours and fancy titles; undemocratic secretive deals using public funds; self-enrichment through profiteering; State manipulation and ideological coercion to reinforce exploitation and discrimination against workers and working class communities: these actions and behaviours are not exceptional where the Establishment is concerned. They are the foundations to maintaining Britain’s class divided economic and political system.
