#ROCHDALE If you’re over 60 and live in Rochdale you might be eligible for a grant of up to £300 from ‘The Norman Barnes Fund’ which is managed by Rochdale Borough Council.
It provides financial assistance for the elderly (and people aged 60 and above) in Rochdale, Bamford, Castleton and Norden.
Grants can be used to help towards buying household white goods such as fridges, cookers, carpets and furniture as well as essential home repairs or decorating.
If you qualify the grant can also be used towards the cost of a recuperative holiday, or expenses for visiting friends and family.
Groups that work in the community that benefits older people can also apply.
The Norman Barnes Fund was established for charitable purposes for the welfare of the elderly.
Grant applications are considered all year round, so there’s no closing date, although you can only apply once in any 12-month period for up to a maximum of £300.
There are restrictions however: No payments can be made to help to pay tax, Council Tax or any other statutory payments, except where relief or assistance is already provided out of statutory funds.
