Questions about immigration, minority rights, traditional marriage, geopolitics, “humanitarian wars,” etc., are simplified into moral vs. immoral terms, thus removing all complexities and dilemmas. In 2021, I published "Europe as the Western Peninsula of Greater Eurasia," arguing that Europe could respond to multipolarity in two ways: 1) Adjust to the new distribution of power by diversifying economic connectivity and abandoning Cold War bloc politics; or 2) Resist and attempt to restore the collective hegemony of the political West by subordinating national interests and scaling back other partnerships, even as the US would predictably pivot to Asia (demand more from Europe, and offer less). Unfortunately, rationality does not prevail, as a powerful ideology has intrinsically linked liberal democracy to hegemony. It is not even possible to have open discussions about the dilemmas Europe faces, as any dissent threatens liberal hegemony. The consequence is that Europe is destroying itself by refusing to adjust to multipolar realities.
