I published the following book in 2021, arguing that Europe's failure to find its place in a multipolar world will result in its growing irrelevance. In a multipolar world, the collective hegemony of the West is not possible. The US will have less to offer, fewer resources, different priorities, demand more obedience, and extract more and more concessions. Other great powers will punish and balance Europe for supporting US hegemonic ambitions. I thus wrote that Europe had two options:
1) Attempt to restore the unipolar world and get lost in wishful thinking: Europe would be conflict-ridden, militaristic, poorer, less relevant, more authoritarian, and an exploited vassal to the US due to excessive dependence.
2) Diversify economic ties and reduce dependence on the US. End the Cold War dividing lines in Europe to form a non-confrontational relationship with Russia, and connect closer with the economies of China, India and others.
The main benefit of the EU is its collective bargaining power. This benefit must now be questioned by European capitals, as von der Leyen has completely capitulated to "daddy". Further deindustrialisation, economic decline, political instability, and irrelevance await.
