Iran ready to negotiate on US sanctions but rejects Trump’s ‘maximum pressure’ approach
Iran was ready to negotiate with the United States but not under the “maximum pressure” strategy of US President Donald Trump, Tehran’s chief diplomat suggested on Saturday.
“The lifting of sanctions requires negotiations, but not within the framework of a ‘maximum pressure’ policy, because it would not be a negotiation but a form of surrender,” said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a statement published on Telegram.
On Friday, Iran’s supreme leader said that negotiations with America “are not intelligent, wise or honorable” after President Donald Trump floated nuclear talks with Tehran.

In a boost to 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', Ministry of Defence today inked a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited in for procurement of 28 EON-51 systems for 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships for the Indian Navy at a total cost of Rs 642.17 crore.
EON-51 is an Electro Optical Fire Control System which provides search, detection and classification of targets. 🇮🇳

Ministry of Defence today inked contracts with Economic Explosive Limited and Munitions India Limited for the procurement of Area Denial Munition Type-1 (DPICM) and High Explosive Pre-Fragmented Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets for PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System at a total cost of Rs 10,147 crore. In addition, a contract for upgrades in SHAKTI Software has also been signed with Bharat Electronics Limited. The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi. 🇮🇳

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Saturday (February 8) said that he expects the uncertainty related to former US President Donald Trump to ease in the coming months.
Malhotra also said that India’s central bank will be responsive to the liquidity needs of the banking system. “We will be very, very watchful, alert and very nimble and agile in whatever are the requirements of the banking system to provide liquidity, both transient, overnight, as well as more durable liquidity,” he said.

Report: On 05 Feb 2025, based on a specific intelligence input about move of terrorists, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established by Security Forces.
One speeding suspicious civil truck was spotted. When challenged, the truck didn't stop despite repeated warnings instead accelerated further while crossing the check post. Alert troops pursued the vehicle for over 23 km. Shots were fired aiming on tyres to deflate which forced vehicle to halt at Sangrama Chowk. Consequent to detailed search, the injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla by Security Forces where he was declared dead.
The fully loaded truck has been sent to nearest police station. Detailed search of the truck in police custody is underway and investigation on antecedents of the suspect is in progress.
