Tinubu Receives Certificate of Return, Urges Nigerians to Join Hands with Him to Pull Nation Through

Adedayo Akinwale in Abuja

President elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has called on those that didn’t support his candidature to join hands with him in a common endeavor to pull the nation through.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Wednesday declared Tinubu the winner of the presidential election.

The former Lagos state governor polled a total votes of 8,794,726 to defeat his closest rival and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar who scored 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of Labour party who polled 6,101,533 votes.

The presidential candidate of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso came a distant fourth with the total votes of 1,496,687 votes.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja after he was presented with the the Certificate of Return by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, he said the certificate of return symbolized the country’s collective democratic attainment and even loftier aspirations.

He said it also represents the impending transfer of a most sacred duty and trust from one person to another.

Tinubu stated: “As I hold this certificate, this moment is one of celebration and gladness for us.
The road has been long. Yet, we walked it. The battle has been hard fought. Yet, we won it.

“But more importantly, I realize that I am just a servant of a larger purpose. You see, this is more than a document confirming the positive outcome of an election.

“At its most sublime, this certificate also symbolizes that each of you has the ability to achieve what others believe is impossible for you to achieve.”

Tinubu noted that while he stood before Nigerians as the president elect, he was no different than anyone, saying if he could do this, others can do it and do it better.

According to him, Our destiny as a people and nation depends on our ability to shed the artificial restrictions of bias and prejudice so that we live fully unto our democratic creed that no one is innately superior or entitled to greater rights and opportunities than any other Nigerian.

The president elect stressed that very soon, the nation would witness a young person standing before the nation holding this great symbol of democracy and national leadership.

rnors deserve National Merit Award for what they have done. If the North had insisted on fielding a candidate, then only God knows what would happen to Nigeria. The governors we have today in the North, I see them as the new Sardauna, the premier of Northern region.

“When I speak about Sardauna, I speak against the background of his qualities, how he  governed the diverse North and today we still have monuments of his achievements in every part cutting across ethnicity and tribe.

“What makes a good leader is to have a large heart and be considerate to other people. Today, the Northern governors have proved to the whole world that they are the new Sardauna of this generation. The only way to compensate them is for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give all the Northern governors that came together and said power must move to the South National Merit Award.

“Whenever the history of this dispensation will be written, the role of Northern governors at that convention will be an integral part of it. It will be said the North in their wisdom came together and said let power shift to the South.”

Adeyemi said those crying foul over the election results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had the plan to hack INEC’s server and spent a lot of money on that, but it failed as INEC delayed the uploading of results.

He said the country will thank God some day that they have elected Tinubu and Shettima because they will “make Nigeria very prosperous”.

We ‘ll Challenge Tinubu’s Victory in Court, Says Baba-Ahmed

Emameh Gabriel in Abuja

Labour Party has declared its intention to challenge the victory of the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a competent court.

Vice presidential candidate of the party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, disclosed this at press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, saying that the election did not meet the minimum standard as prescribed by the Electoral Act (2022).

He said: “It is our position that the purported result didn’t  meet the minimum criteria of a transparent, free and fair election in addition to the most condemnable attacks, voters intimidation and suppression.

“Please be assured of our determination to fight the injustice that has been perpetuated on Nigerians through all legal and peaceful means. We imploy you all to please remain peaceful and calm as our fight and determination for a new Nigeria is just beginning. We equally encourage you all to continue with the campaigns and vote massively for Labour Party in the forthcoming governorship and states House of Assembly elections on 11 March. Our Principal, Mr Peter Obi, will in due course speak to you and indeed the nation.

“We also ask Nigerians to continue to exercise their civic duties in the upcoming elections. I have said that democracy belongs to the people who can practice it. The only language we know is peace. If Nigerians are going to achieve peace through peaceful protests, so be it”, Datti vowed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had Wednesday declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu declared Tinubu the winner in Abuja.

Tinubu: APC Senators Implore Nigerians to Eschew Violence, Remain Calm

Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, and his counterpart in the Federal Capital Territory Committee, Smart Adeyemi, have appealed to Nigerians to remain calm so that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, can start finding solutions to the problems confronting the country.

Bamidele, in a statement on Wednesday, described Tinubu’s victory in the keenly contested presidential election as a well-deserved reward for his esteemed courage, resilience, doggedness, hard work, unwavering determination, decades of building bridges across the nooks and crannies and strong faith in God.

He said: “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerges as president in keenly contested presidential election as a well-deserved reward for his esteemed courage, resilience, doggedness, hard work, unwavering determination, decades of building bridges across the nooks and crannies of the Nigerian nation and is strong faith in God.

“Asiwaju’s victory is a sign that there is no short cut to success, but hard work.”

Bamidele pointed out that Nigeria as a nation is well favoured to have a leader like Tinubu as its president because he is an adept problem-solver, a world class technocrat, a visionary and reliable team player, a compassionate father and mentor to many great leaders across the country and a democrat with remarkable progressive credentials.

He stressed that Tinubu’s assumption of office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will herald the realization of a new Nigeria of our dream because he has a formidable team of highly committed and thorough bred technocrats who have deep scientific understanding of the varying challenges that Nigerian people are facing.

He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians, especially his opponents and their teeming supporters to join hands with Tinubu and his team in building a new Nigeria that the continent of Africa and the rest of the world can be proud of.

Bamidele said: ‘’It is high time Nigeria took his rightful place in the comity of nations. I implore the people of Nigeria, especially his opponents and their teeming supporters to join hands with Tinubu and his team, to enable him replicate his laudable and lofty achievements in Lagos State in building the new Nigeria that the continent of Africa and the rest of the world can be proud of.”

Adeyemi on his part called on the president-elect to confer National Merit Award on Northern governors for the heroic role they played in shifting power from the North to the South in the All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to him, having won this election, some of them sat down and meditated on how APC has come this far to win and noted the great role of Northern governors.

After commending the Almighty, who made the victory possible, “we have to commend Northern governors because no matter how good a building is you have to look at the foundation.

“Our candidate, incoming president and his vice came this far because the Northern governors came to a conclusion that the presidency should be zoned from the North to the South”.

Adeyemi stated this Wednesday while speaking with journalists at the Senate Press Centre, Abuja.

He said  as they are celebrating as a party, they must thank the Northern governors who came together and said: “For the peace and unity and stability of Nigerian nation, power should be shifted to the South. That helped the emergence of the best candidate Nigeria has ever produced for presidential election – a man of good antecedent, a man known not to be sentimental, a man of great strength of character, intelligence, a man that is cerebral and highly mobile, a man with a great record of service to God and humanity.

“To me, the Northern gove[...]

Mastercard, Network International Launch AI Fraud-prevention Solution

Emma Okonji

Mastercard is partnering Network International, the leading enabler of digital commerce across the Middle East and Africa, to address fraud, declines and chargebacks in order to reduce costs and risk for acquirers.
Through the partnership, Network will launch Mastercard’s Brighterion Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology across the region, providing transaction fraud screening and merchant monitoring to acquirers and businesses.
According to the Nilson Report, payment card fraud losses are projected to hit $49 billion by 2030. Furthermore, 68 per cent of card fraud losses in 2020 were related to transactions where cards were not physically present. McKinsey estimates that AI technologies can potentially deliver up to $1 trillion of additional value each year. With its sophisticated Artificial Intelligence, Brighterion learns the warning signs of fraud and alerts acquirers and merchants in real-time to prevent the completion of fraudulent transactions and costly chargebacks.
In 2019, Mastercard made a strategic $300 million investment as a cornerstone investor in Network, followed by an additional commitment towards developing innovative payment solutions. As part of this partnership, Mastercard supports Network via Brighterion’s AI technology, which combats the risk of fraud, reducing the operational overhead on acquirers and merchants while improving the experience for customers.
Division President, Middle East and North Africa, Mastercard, Khalid Elgibali, said: “At Mastercard, we provide capabilities and services beyond card payments, using the latest cutting-edge technology to stay ahead of fraudsters as we secure the full payments ecosystem. Brighterion Artificial Intelligence capabilities are helping to reduce fraud and merchant risk, leading to safer transactions and a better consumer experience.”
Group Chief Executive Officer, Network International, Nandan Mer, said: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Mastercard and expect to launch this revolutionary new AI technology across the region early this year. Adding Brighterion to Network’s range of solutions allows us to enhance our ability to provide financial institutions, merchants and their customers with safe, secure and seamless processing.”
