🔴 Authorities of the Western Port of Crete might close the port

🔸 Due to the increase volume of work in the port from newly arrivals and also patrolling the maritime areas near crete to look for and "rescue" illegal immigrants, the already understaffed port of Western Crete warned the local and national authorities that they might have to close the port

‼️ Many of the immigrants are being temporarily housed at these ports while they are not transferred to mainland Greece and in some cases the ports themselves lack space and transfer the illegals to yet another port since local immigration camps are also full.

🔸The port staff in Sfakia, Paleochora who also serve Gavdos, Elafonisi and in general the southern coast of Chania have reached their limits due to understaffing

​​Armenians around the world today remember the 1.5 million victims of the Turkish atrocities that began in 1894 and continued until 1917

Today marks the 109th anniversary of the 1915 Genocide of Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians. On the night of April 24, 1915, the Ottoman government announced the arrest of the first wave of 235 of the most prominent Armenian intellectuals in Constantinople.

The Turkish Ottoman government killed Armenians through shootings, starvation, death marches, and torture of all kinds. The most common type of killing was death marches, where Armenians were sent to starve to death in the Syrian desert.

Children and women were often attempted to be forcibly Islamized, leading to mass suicides. Young women and girls were often used as domestic servants or sex slaves. Some boys were kidnapped to work as forced laborers for Muslims.

Those who were able to walk more than a thousand kilometers across the desert and survived were granted asylum in French Mandate Syria.

The genocide led to the formation of an Armenian diaspora, and survivors mostly chose France, Argentina and the United States as a refuge.

After the massacres and deportations, some Armenians tried to use bribes to find Armenian orphans as part of the "one child, one bar of gold" campaign. Through the local population, Armenians bribed people who sang Armenian lullabies and thus triggered the memories of the children in order to identify them.

In 1920, a revenge operation called "Nemesis" was launched.

Between 1920 and 1922, the underground cell of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation committed seven assassinations, the most famous of which was the assassination of Talaat Pasha, the main organizer of the Armenian genocide, carried out by Armenian Soghomon Telirian in March 1921 in Berlin.

On August 22, 1939, in preparation for the impending invasion of Poland, Hitler stated:
“Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

Israel still has not recognized the Armenian Genocide.

In 2015, the Armenian Church canonized all 1.5 million martyrs of the Turkish atrocities.

In 2016, Armenian philanthropists Noubar Afeyan, Vartan Gregorian, and Ruben Vardanyan (abducted, currently being held in an Azeri-Turkish prison in Baku) established the Aurora Prize, which is awarded annually on behalf of Armenian Genocide survivors. The winner of the Aurora Award receives a $1,000,000 dollar prize for awakening humanity. The award recipients are distinguished individuals fighting for human rights around the world and the prize goes to their chosen charitable organizations.

The genocide is fully recognized by 34 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the United States, Russia, as well as by the European Parliament and the Catholic Church. Dozens of countries around the world have partially recognized the genocide. The first country to recognize the genocide was Uruguay in 1965.

Together with the Armenians, 900,000 Greeks and 750,000 Assyrians were killed.

The Armenian genocide is stubbornly denied by Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan, which 109 years later, in 2023, ethnically cleansed Armenian-populated Artsakh through a 10-month blockade, famine and numerous wars.

Since 2021, the Istanbul Governorate has banned public events commemorating the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

🔴 Greece plans to acquire Air Defense System similar to Israel's Iron Dome

🔸 The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, announced that Greece will acquire Anti-Missile and Anti-Drone systems similar to Israel's Iron Dome, citing that after observing Israel's system responding to Iran's attack and the war in Ukraine, the need for such systems became obvious

🔸 He noted that Turkey increased its drone production and development and that initially Greece did not think it was necessary to fill that gap in the Armed Forces System

🔸 Dendias said that the system wont be purchased right now but that the Greek Government has already calculated the possible expenditure for doing so in the future

🔴 Turkey to suspend implementation of Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe

🔸 Turkey announced that it will suspend the implementation of the CFE Treaty. It means that Turkey will abolish the ceilings of forces and armaments imposed by the treaties as well as the mutual checks to ensure that countries were complying with the ceilings and the guidelines for destruction and withdraw of war materials

‼️ This comes a while after Russia withdrew from the treaty which caused NATO to declare its 'freezing' as the relevance of the treaty without Russia is reduced significantly

‼️ It is still not known if Greece will follow suit and also suspend or withdraw from the treaty since there has been an increasing arms race between Greece and Turkey for the past few years

🔸 In 2023, Greece approved the law 5078/2023, which in its article 193 allows that illegal immigrants that had been living in Greece for at least three years prior to the creation of the law can get a Residence Permit as long as they have a Job Offer and clean criminal history

🔸 According with the reports, until last week over 800 of the 4790 applications had been approved and the rest were still under evaluation

‼️ The law got into effect in February 2024, therefore in a little over a month there were already 5000 applications

🔸 According with the EUAA (European Union Agency for Asylum), 2023 broke a 7 year record with over 1.14 million, the most Asylum Applications since 2016 which was considered to be the height of the immigration crisis with 1.3 million between 2015 and 2016

🔸 Most applicants declared to be Afghans and Syrians. It was a 18% increase from 2022

🔴 Two shocking rape cases perpetrated by immigrants in Greece in a span of 3 days

‼️ On 09/05, a 16 year old British girl was raped by a Pakistani immigrant in Crete. According with repports, the victim was followed by the immigrant to the restroom of a bar she was at with her family. The Pakistani immobilized the girl and raped her, fleeing shortly after, CCTV footage assisted in his capture

👮🏻‍♂️ The authorities located the man a few hours later, the paki claimed the act with the minor was consensual. The investigation is still ongoing and he is under police custody

‼️ on 12/05, a 62 year old woman was raped by an immigrant in Achaia. The woman was performing agricultural work on a field and was raped by the man of foreign origin. The authorities have not released information regarding the country of origin of the man yet

🔸 Many immigrants travel back to Syria after acquiring Asylum in Europe, in Cyprus' case, they fly to Syria by going to the illegally occupied region of Cyprus

🔴 Island of Gavdos declares emergency with increased flow of immigrants

🔸 Gavdos is a Greek island south of Crete, with a total of 120 native residents

🔸 The mayor of Gavdos declared an emergency this week after once again the flow of immigrants to the island increased

‼️ Between Monday night and early Tuesday, the island experienced the arrival of 91 illegal immigrants, 64 of them being adult men while 23 claim to be minors, most of them claim to be Egyptian and some are from Bangladesh

‼️ Arrivals of illegal immigrants have become a daily occurrence in the island since last saturday and the island has probably received well over 1000 illegal immigrants this year alone

🔸 Across Europe, Syrians* made 181 000 Asylum applications, Afghans** followed with 114 000 applications (11% less than in 2022) and Turks have filed 101 000 applications (81% more than 2022, mostly in Germany)

‼️ The approval rate in 2023 was the highest since 2016, with around 46% of applications being accepted (applicants can appeal and resubmit again while still in Europe, a process that generally takes over two years)

⚠️‼️* 80% of applications from so called Syrians are approved, which is why many immigrants claim to be Syrian in order to receive asylum, although they have a few more obstacles to receive citizenship and permanent residency, interviews from as back as 2016 showed Pakistanis and even sub-saharan africans claiming to be Syrians

⚠️‼️ ** 61% of applications from so called Afghans are approved and they receive refugee status due to supposed persecution by the Taliban

🔴 EUROPOL took down a ring of smugglers operating from Germany, Belgium and France

🔸 The gang smuggled immigrants from continental Europe to the UK

‼️ 28 locations in Germany were raided and 12 boats
🔺179 life jackets and dozens of children's jackets seized
🔺 11 outboard motors
🔺 10 engines
🔺 almost 60 electronic devices
⚠️ Firearms were also seized

‼️ The leader of the Iraqi-Kurdish Gang along with five other high rank individuals have been arrested

🔸 A total of 19 people were arrested

🔸 The gang bought cheap inflatable boats from China and imported them to Germany in a complex operation, they transported the boats by car to Belgium where they would transport immigrants

‼️ The gang charged between €1000 and €3000 per person

🔴 Turkey reschedules conversion of Chora Church into a mosque

🔸 The official conversion of Chora was scheduled for the 23rd of February, when the first muslim prayer would be conducted, but the Turkish state recently denied it

🔸 The new announcement says the 'restoration' is in its final stages and that the Church will be dedicated for Islamic worship by May of 2024

‼️ The church of Agios Sotiros in Chora, the catholicon of what was once a monastic complex, dates from the 6th AD. The most elaborate mosaics and frescoes were created from 1305 to 1320

‼️ It is the monument with the most elaborate Byzantine mosaics in Constantinople, along with Hagia Sofia and the Monastery of Pammakaristos
