main difference is that halium-boot is based on Debian initramfs and has some Ubuntu-specific scripts to mount overlays for read-only rootfs

Actually, I do have one other question whilst I'm here. I am currently using hybris-boot (because it was what was mentioned in the Halium documentation, and it is easier to patch than halium-boot). I notice that the project now pretty much universally uses halium-boot. Are there requirements in later revisions of Halium that rely on halium-boot, or should I be ok with sticking with hybris-boot for now (outside of halium-boot stll being developed, and hybris-boot being mostly dead)?
