I wanna make a port for Ubuntu Touch for my phone, and it meets all the requirements for Halium, but I have a question about one that I'm not sure if it meets
Читать полностью…
if you want to port it is better to follow the porting documentation of your target OS

i mean if their goal for example is to port ubunu touch, they should read the documentation linked above— it links to the porting room on matrix

that room is no longer really used, what is their goal?

then i believe it qualifies the part about lineage OS sources

ok in that case uh what android version did your phone ship with

yes, on the device you are porting from the pc you are porting with

you don't need to build halium, please follow docs.ubports.com/porting

I think the Kernel source is publicly available, but I idk for sure, and I also don't know about the LineageOS version

since halium 9 it no longer needed to build halium itself

Hello, I'm a longtime linux-phone enthusiast, but never tried porting things myself, having limited time, and let's be honest limited skills (never programmed anything in C or C#, never played around with customising a kernel before...).
But I'm interested in playing around for fun, even with low chances of getting things fully working on my own.
I'd love to get my hands on a cheap second hand device and give porting a try. The goal would be "just" to get the test image of halium booting first. Ideally in the end I'd like to go further and port Ubtouch, Droidian or Lune OS, but with my skills it's probably too optimistic isn't it ?.
I got my eyes on a Motorola Moto G 5G Plus (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/nairo/variant1/). I saw several offers at 50€ and below (I'd like to avoid spending more on something I have high chances of bricking ^^') and It has a lineage os ROM, more than 2Go of Ram, kernel 4.19... From what I read on Halium's doc, it sounds like a good candidate for playing around with porting.
But also, I see no Motorola device compatible with Ubtouch, which makes me think there might be something I'm missing, and more difficulties ahead.
Ultimately I'm OK if I fail the port, I just wanna have fun, but also I don't wanna start my first try on a device that's a dead end anyway.
What do you think ?
Does it sound like an OK device to start with ? Any other recommendation ?
Any comment on that little hobby project is welcome :)
i think as long as the PR gives enough of an explaination it should be fine
