Technically, I left Holo in November and have been focused on delivering the infrastructure for HoloFuel and making it extensible and powerful enough for other projects to use that same infrastructure.

That's happening in over in https://Unyt.co (which was supposed to have its new web site live now, so check back there today or tomorrow). We have multiple DEPIN projects testing and committing to using the same tools that will power HoloFuel. We've also gotten the commitment from Holo to get HoloFuel live on those tools (although I'm not supposed to say anything about the timing for that).

I'm still acting in an advisory role in Holochain foundation as I still carry a bunch of the institutional knowledge from managing development there for so long, but Eric Harris-Braun took that over.

RealGold will be using these tools, but also extending them in a real estate asset registry which tracks all the in-ground gold and other real estate assets.

I usually check in towards the end of the week on the forum but because of the holiday and other priorities I put my focus elsewhere. You all have raised legitimate and deeply felt frustrations, and you deserve a direct and honest response. I understand the disappointment and loss of confidence you’re expressing.
I’m not here to offer excuses or spin. You’ve asked for “real talk” and a “warts and all picture.” That’s what I want to provide. I’ll address the key themes you’ve brought up one by one.
On Corporate Structure, Unyt, and the BVI
Let me address the most serious concern directly to clear up any misinformation. The question is whether the project’s assets are being moved to a separate, extractive company.
The fact is that Holo and Unyt are both wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Holochain Foundation.
There is no external, for-profit entity siphoning off funds or IP. The entire structure is under the ownership and control of the Holochain Foundation. My understanding on the decision to establish Unyt in the BVI was made based on favorable regulatory conditions for its specific operational goals, as determined by the Foundation’s leadership. I recognize that the lack of clarity around this has bred suspicion. We’re always trying to find that balance of sharing the right amount, and often it’s too much for some and too little for others. We know we can’t get it perfectly every time.
On Our Financial Reality, Marketing, and Progress
Many of you are asking why there isn’t more marketing or a big push for adoption now that the tech is here.
We are a startup that has been operating for years building and trying to deliver something that the market validated in a big way in 2017 via the ICO, and since then not only did we experience hurdles and delays in that journey, but also the market has all the while kept on evolving. Generally speaking, startups often start with an idea of what they’re going to do to generate revenue and then pivot when they find a proven model that is not what they expected it would be initially.
I believe Mary spoke to this in our last livestream, any marketing comes with spend. We want to be responsible with spending funds on marketing, and for us to do that we believe there needs to be a clear line to draw between marketing spend and revenue generation.
Our focus is intensely focused on the near-term actions that will allow us to survive and eventually thrive. To pretend otherwise would be the “hype and bullshit” you have rightly said you don’t want.

On Communication and a Path Forward

The fragmentation of our community channels across all the different media is a failure on our part. I want to personally own that. My experiment with Discord was an attempt to find a better venue for you, but it failed to gain momentum and only created more confusion. I regret that.

You need a reliable, central place for information and conversation.

To fix this, I am making two immediate commitments:

This Forum as the Official Channel: Effective immediately, we are recommitting to this forum as the primary, official channel for all major host-related announcements, updates, and discussions. While other channels may exist for social chatter, this will be our source of truth for you.
Company-Wide AMA: To answer your questions directly, we will be hosting a company-wide AMA in the next few weeks. Leadership from across the organizations, including founders, will be there to address your concerns about strategy, finance, and the future. I will post the exact date and time here when I know it.
I believe the passion in this thread, even when expressed as anger, comes from a place of belief in what this project could be. I believe we can still get there.
