During these difficult times, the need for supporting one another is felt more than ever. We hope this performance of classical Persian music, which is the most suppressed form of art in Iran, provides a space for our Iranian-American community to come together in solidarity with our fellow Iranians. With a heavy heart, yet a hopeful mind, we are looking forward to seeing you all…

Taak Ensemble is dedicating the majority of this performance to music pieces with Hafez poems. Vocalist and music faculty at Soka University of America, Hesam Abedini, Santur player and a graduate of Tehran Music Conservatory, Mahtab Nadalian, will be joined by Tar player, Ebrahim Poustinchi, and Tombak player, Rambod Dargahi, to perform classical and folkloric Persian music.

Join us for a conversation and two book signings with Donya Ziraksari & Golara Haghtalab on longing, belonging and letting go, led by Termeh Rassi.

Donya Ziraksari, an engineer by day and writer/filmmaker by night, was born and raised in Iran and moved to the United States in 2007 as a religious refugee. Tehran to Miami is a one-of-a-kind memoir that follows the story of Donya, a woman suffering religious persecution in 1980s Iran.

Golara Haghtalab is a multidisciplinary creative and management consultant. In the midst of the recent social justice movements that were filled with voices wishing to be heard, Golara was inspired to share her own voice in her memoir Immigrant: Courage Required.

دوره‌ی سوم

در سومین دوره از دوره‌های «شعر و شاعران معاصر» در پارس پلیس، به سراغ درون‌مایه‌های جالب در شعر معاصر فارسی و همچنین شخصیت‌های مورد توجه شاعران رفته‌ایم:
در شش جلسۀ اول به اشعاری (اعم از مدح یا هجو) می‌پردازیم که دربارۀ شش چهرۀ ممتاز معاصر سروده شده‌اند:
قمرالملوک وزیری، نیما یوشیج، فروغ فرخزاد، محمد مصدق، غلامرضا تختی، محمدرضا شجریان
و در شش جلسۀ دوم به اشعاری می‌پردازیم که معاصران با این مضامین سروده‌اند:
وطن، رفاقت، خیانت، دین، تن‌کامگی، نوروز
این دوره دوازده جلسه است و هر جلسه دو ساعت. می‌توانید برای کل دوره یکجا ثبت‌نام کنید، یا فقط در جلسه‌ای که موضوع آن را دوست دارید، شرکت کنید.

In her new book, Thirty Three Birds, Taraneh Habib brings together a beautiful collection of sixty of her collages and short poems.
Collage is a fascinating art form. It glues together different pieces from different contexts, different times. Its beauty lies in assembling the seemingly disparate into a cohesive work. It draws on what came before it, thus acknowledging or even honoring the past. In combining the pieces, a totally new an synergistic work is created. What is delightful and liberating in this art form is that the artist gets to choose the context (background) and the desired elements from past works. Similarly she has the distinct choice to leave behind the undesired elements and backgrounds.

The third series of Contemporary Persian Poetry with Sayeh Eghtesadinia

This series will be offered in 12 two-hour sessions. Six sessions are thematically organized: friendship, betrayal, Nowruz, etc.
In the other six sessions we will work on poetry based on historical and cultural figures such as Ghamar (Ghamar Molook Vaziri), Mossadeq, Mohammadreza Shajarian.
