IDF: IDF exercise "Lightning Storm", focused on improving IDF troop's readiness for combat along the border with Lebanon, begins today

Today (Tuesday), the IDF exercise "Lightning Storm" will begin in the Northern Command along the border with Lebanon. The exercise will finish in the afternoon hours tomorrow (Wednesday).

The exercise is intended to improve the IDF troops’ readiness on the border with Lebanon. During the exercise, increased traffic of security forces and vehicles will be felt in the region, a number of explosions may be heard in the area and a number of road blocks will be set up along the border. No routes will actually be blocked.

The exercise will examine how to apply the lessons learned from operational activities that took place along the border with Lebanon last summer, and will prepare the troops for a variety of scenarios, including readiness for "combat days."

The IDF will continue to prepare and improve its readiness along the border with Lebanon, while carrying out the task of protecting the residents in the area.

IDF: Attempted terror attack was thwarted in the Sde Efraim farm

A short while ago, a report was received regarding a terrorist who arrived in a vehicle to Sde Efraim farm, south of Qalqilya, attempting to penetrate to a house belonging to one of the farm's employees. A physical confrontation evolved between the terrorist and one of the employees. Another employee who was present at the scene, fired towards the suspect. The suspect has been neutralized. IDF troops are conducting searches in the area.

IDF: *IDF troops thwarted an attempted stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion Junction*

Following the previous report regarding an attempted stabbing attack, an armed assailant with three knives connected to a stick arrived at the Gush Etzion Junction and attempted to stab IDF soldiers who were operating at the scene. The troops fired towards the assailant and neutralized him. No IDF injuries were reported.

*Corporal I, a combat soldier from the "Nachshon" Battalion who neutralized the assailant:* "I was standing at the southern bus station of the Gush Etzion Junction in order to protect the civilians who were at the scene. I spotted a suspect who was walking on the street, coming towards me and towards the bus station where civilians were present. I started to operate in order to stop the suspect. He started running towards me and I noticed him pulling out a knife. I immediately responded with fire and neutralized him. I have been here for about a month with my battalion on operational duty. Earlier tonight, two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards the coast near the city of Ashdod. In response, a short while ago, IDF fighter jets struck military targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip, including tunnel digging sites.

IDF: IDF troops continue searching for two assailants in car-ramming and shooting attack

Following the previous report, two vehicles were standing at a routine IDF security crossing adjacent to the village of Ya'bad, west of Jenin. After the first vehicle completed inspection and continued driving, two assailants in the second vehicle accelerated towards the IDF troops at the crossing in an attempt to run them over. An IDF soldier was hit by the assailants' vehicle, but did not need to be evacuated for medical treatment.
One of the assailants dropped his weapon from the vehicle after attempting to shoot at the IDF troops. The weapon, a "Carlo" submachine gun, was seized by IDF troops.
IDF troops have set up security checks in the area, and are pursuing the vehicle and the assailants.

IDF: IDF troops search the village of the terrorist who attempted the terror attack at Sde Efraim farm

An initial inquiry suggests that at 03:45, a terrorist entered the Sde Efraim farm by vehicle, crossed the entire farm, and pulled over adjacent to the entrance of the farm owner's house.

The terrorist ran out of the car towards the house, shouting “Allahu Akbar”while attempting to break into the house.

IDF: An indictment was filed against the terrorist who murdered the late Esther Horgan

An indictment against the terrorist who murdered the late Esther Horgan was filed today (Thursday) in the Military Court in Samaria. Muhammad Kabha, a resident of Tora al-Arabiya, is accused of murdering Horgan on December 20, 2020, near the town of Tal Menashe.

Attributed to the terrorist in the indictment are crimes including intentionally causing death (equivalent to murder), conspiracy to shoot at a person, as well as other offenses.

The indictment was filed at the end of an intensive investigation by the Israel Police and the General Security Service.

The military prosecution sought to extend the terrorist's detention until the end of the legal proceedings in his case.
