Every Muslim who strives to be pleased with the Prophethood and Messengership of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم cannot attain that except when he judges with what the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came with, and is pleased with it and believes that it is the most perfect and complete judgment.

Instead of complaining about the delay in response to the supplications, we should concentrate on the reasons for the delay.

1. It could be that Allaah loves you and loves to hear your pleas. Then He تعالى will give you all that will please your heart.

2. It could be that you did not praise Allaah nor send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ before starting the supplication.

3. It could be that the thing that you supplicated for is harmful or bad for you.

4. It could be that you only supplicate in times of need and ignore to praise Allaah in times of ease.

5. It could be that you are impatient while supplicating and you are not constant. You are expecting your supplications to be answered the moment you raise your hands. You are expecting it to be answered when you want it and how you want it.

6. It could be that you are uncertain or have doubts about Allaah while supplicating. Remember, you do not test Allaah. It is Allaah who tests you.

7. We miss out on the best times in which supplications are answered: a) in the last third of the night, b) in Sujood, c) between Adhaan and Iqaamah, d) in the final Tashahhud before the Tasleem, e) when it rains, f) when one is traveling, g) when one is in distress.

8. It could be that you lack concentration while supplicating.

9. It could be that your income is unlawful (Haraam), or your food and drink are unlawful (like eating pork, drinking wine, or something that is stolen). Some people have allowed Ribaa upon themselves (they wage war against Allaah and expect Allaah to respond to their supplications). Scholars have even warned against those who go late to work and leave early.

Do the morning and evening Adhkaar (remembrance of Allaah) diligently and persistently as a means of trying to be nearer to Allaah تعالى. You never know what physical or financial or spiritual problems you'll be protected from on that day or night through those Adhkaar, by the Will of Allaah.

🌴🌴🌴

🌟Physical benefit and protection:

When Faatimah رضي الله عنها requested the Prophet ﷺ to provide her with a slave girl to help her around with the house work, the Prophet ﷺ taught her the Dhikr before going to bed and said: ❝...that is better for you than (receiving) a servant.❞
📚 [Saheehain]

🌴🌴🌴

🌟 Spiritual benefit and protection:

The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝There is (at times) some sort of shade (or veil) upon my heart, and I do Istighfaar (i.e. I seek forgiveness from Allaah) a hundred times a day.❞
📚 [Saheeh Muslim]

NOTE: Those who feel depressed or have any uneasy feeling within themselves should do the same. As Allaah تعالى said:

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّـهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

{Verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest.}
📚 [Surah al-Ra`d(13):28]

🌴🌴🌴

Increase in all types of favors in general - in this world and the Hereafter:

وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ

{And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed: 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'}

🌟Salaah is the practical implementation of Tawheed🌟

🔥And the scholars have said that there is no Islaam for the one who abandons the prayers🌟

🎓 Anas Ibn Maalik رضي الله عنه said:
❝Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went out with us to fight (in Allaah's cause) against any nation, he never allowed us to attack till morning and he would wait and see: if he heard Adhaan he would postpone the attack and if he did not hear Adhaan he would attack them.❞
📚 [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (610) and Saheeh Muslim]

📑 From this Hadeeth it is understood that the Iqaamatis-Salaah (establishment of prayers) is the most distinguished sign of Islaam and Muslims and the Adhaan is the call for establishing the Salaah.

So, the essence of Islaam is: establishing the worship of Allaah alone through the Salaah.

📜Further proofs are:
1⃣ The Hadeeth of Muaadh رضي الله عنه when the Prophet ﷺ had sent him to Yemen.
2⃣ The Hadeeth of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝I have been commanded to fight...❞

It was narrated that Buraydah Ibn al-Husayb said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ say: ❝The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is the prayer, and whoever neglects it has disbelieved (become a kaafir).❞
📚 [Musnad Ahmad, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan al-Nisaaee and Sunan Ibn Maajah and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

Narrated
Abdullaah bin Shaqeeq Al-'Uqayli: ❝The Companions of Muhammad ﷺ didn't consider leaving anything to be disblief except for the Salaah.❞
📚 [Sunan al-Tirmidhee and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

💢 💢 💢

Some of the scholars who say that the one who abandons the prayers has become a Kaafir:
1. Imaam Ahmad رحمه الله
2. Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله
3. Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله in his book (الصلاة وحكم تاركها)
4. Ibn Baaz رحمه الله
5. Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله and he has a small treatise on this.
6. Shaikh al-Fawzaan حفظه الله

The 4 categories of people during the congregational prayers
بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

During the congregational prayers, in regards to following the Imaam, people are divided into four groups:

The “Forerunners”: Those who precede the Imaam in their bowing and prostration and getting up from them. It is like some race or competition as to who will do it first, the Imaam or those who are praying behind him. They do their action even before the Imaam says the Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar).

The “Coinciders”: Those who do the actions simultaneously with the Imaam. They don't want to precede the Imaam but they also don’t want to be left behind. They will bow and prostrate with the Imaam. They do their actions while the Imaam is still saying the Takbeer. (Many people come under this category).

The “Followers”: Those who follow the Imaam in his actions. They do not precede him, nor do it simultaneously with him. They wait for the Imaam to complete the Takbeer before doing the required action.

The “Delayers”: They do not precede the Imaam, nor do they coincide with him, but they also don't follow him in the true sense. They do not follow the Imaam even after he has said the Takbeer. They will keep doing the Adhkaar and wait for a little longer before joining the Imaam.

۩•۞•۩

Narrated Anas bin Maalik رضي الله عنه: Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم fell from a horse and got injured so he led the prayer sitting and we also prayed sitting. When he completed the prayer he صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “The Imaam is appointed so that he should be followed; if he says the Takbeer then say Takbeer, bow if he bows; raise your heads when he raises his head, when he says: ‘Samia-llaahu liman hamidah’, say: ‘Rabbanaa lakal-hamd’, and prostrate when he prostrates.”

📚 [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim. This has also been reported from
Aaishah, Abu Hurairah and others رضي الله عنهم. In other narration it is also mentioned: “And when he prays, standing, you should pray standing. And when he prays sitting, all of you should pray sitting. and straighten the rows for the prayer, as the straightening of the rows is amongst those things which make your prayer a correct and perfect one.”]

People celebrate the passing of days and years in the form of birthdays and New Years’.

And the irony is that when they grow old they yearn for these lost days and years, and the lost youth and health…

Narrated Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما: Allaah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said to a man in the course of an exhortation:
❝Grasp five things before five others: your youth before your decrepitude, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your leisure before your work, and your life before your death.❞

THE QUR’AAN AS A HEALER:

Allaah تعالى said:

مَآ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِتَشۡقَىٰٓ
{We have not sent down the Qur’aan unto you to cause you distress}
📚 [Surah TaHa (20):2]

Ibn Katheer رحمه الله commented: “No, by Allaah, He تعالى did not make it a thing of distress. Rather, He تعالى made it a mercy, a light, and a guide to Paradise.”
📚 [Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

Allaah تعالى said:

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
{And We send down from the Qur’aan that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe}
📚 [Surah al-Israa (17): 82]

قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ
{Say: “It is for those who believe, a guidance and a healing.”}
📚 [Surah Fussilat (41): 44]

👉 The Qur’aan is the speech of Allaah, and there is nothing like it, and nothing can stand in its way. The Qur’aan is the best Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah), the best healer, and remover of anxiety and distress for those who recite it morning and evening and ponder over its meaning and contemplate over its teachings. There is nothing like it in removing the suffering, anxiety, distress, and mental illness. Through the recitation of the Qur’aan, the hearts are satisfied, calmed, and settled down in a way that cannot be described. So, depending upon the level a slave approaches the Book of Allaah - by reciting it, pondering over its meaning, memorizing it, learning it, teaching it, and acting upon its teachings – he will find happiness, rest, relief, tranquility, healing, cure, satisfaction to that level. The more one does this, the more he will receive. The more one recites, the more he will be given; the less one recites, the less he will be given, and if one abandons it, he will be abandoned.

Also, in this there is proof that a person should stay away from things that would distract his attention in the prayer, even if this distraction was to happen only once. If there is a pattern or design in front of him while he is praying, which would cause distraction, he should avoid them (by not praying in those places). Similarly, avoiding (fancy) lighting and (people) talking. Anything that would cause distraction in prayer, then it is legislated that the person should avoid it and stay away from it so that he is not distracted in worship (and does not lose the reward).” [5]

FOOTNOTES:
[1] Shaikh Ibn al-Uthaymeen said this some 30+ years ago, i.e., when the pagers became widely used in the 1980s through the late 1990s. By the 21st century, the cellphones, mobile phones, and smart phones, became common, and the ringtones have become a major distraction, not only to the owner of the device about also to the other people praying. One loud continuous ringing phone distracts the whole congregation, and it is even worse when the ringtone is some song or music.

IBAADAH AND THE ELEPHANT

PART #6: REMOVING THINGS THAT INTERFERE WITH WORSHIP:

Narrated Anas رضي الله عنه:
Aaishah رضي الله عنها had a Qiraam (a thin marked woolen curtain) with which she had screened one side of her home. The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Take away this Qiraam (curtain) of yours, as its pictures are still displayed in front of me during my prayer (i.e., they divert my attention from the prayer).❞ [1]

Aaishah رضي الله عنها narrated: We had a curtain with us which had portraits of birds upon it. Anyone entering (the room) would find it in front of him. Thereupon, Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ said to me: ❝Replace it, for whenever I enter (the room) and see it, it reminds me about (the pleasures) of the worldly life.❞ [2]

Aaishah رضي الله عنها narrated: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ once prayed in a Khameeṣah (i.e., a square garment) having prints on it. During the prayer, he ﷺ looked at its marks. So, when he finished the prayer, he ﷺ said: ❝Take this Khameeṣah of mine to Abu Jahm and get me his Inbijaaniyah (a woolen garment without marks) as it (the Khameeṣah) has distracted my attention while praying.❞ The Prophet ﷺ further said: ❝I was looking at the print (on the Khameeṣah) during the prayer, and I was afraid that it might put me to trial (by diverting my attention).❞ [3]

Imaam Maalik narrated from AIqamah Ibn Abee AIqamah from his mother that `Aaishah رضي الله عنها, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said: “Abu Jahm Ibn Hudhaifah رضي الله عنه gave the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ a fine striped garment from Syria and he ﷺ offered the prayer in it. When he ﷺ had finished, he ﷺ said: ❝Return this garment to Abu Jahm. I looked at its stripes in the prayer, and they almost put me to trial (by distracting me).❞ [4]

IBAADAH AND THE ELEPHANT

PART #5: PILGRIMAGE AND SMARTPHONES

Pilgrimage to the House of Allaah is a duty that mankind owes to Allaah; an obligation on those who can afford it. It is the fifth pillar of Islaam. Those who come for Ḥajj and
Umrah should perform them completely, perfectly, and sincerely - for the sake of Allaah alone and upon the guidelines of the Prophet ﷺ.

Allaah تعالى said:
﴿وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ﴾
{And perform properly the Ḥajj and Umrah for Allaah} [1]

Tafseer Muyassar:
Perform Ḥajj and
Umrah completely (and properly), sincerely for the sake of Allaah. [2]

Tafseer al-Sadee:
The words {And perform the Ḥajj and
Umrah properly for Allaah} are indicative of a number of things:
ii) That it is obligatory to do Ḥajj and Umrah properly, with all the essential and obligatory parts, as indicated by the actions of the Prophet ﷺ and his words: ❝Learn from me your rituals (of Ḥajj).❞ [Ṣaḥeeḥ Muslim]
iv) That it is obligatory to complete Ḥajj and
Umrah once one has started them, even if they are supererogatory (Nafl).
v) The command to do them properly means putting more effort into doing what must be done.
vi) That they should be done sincerely for the sake of Allaah alone. [3]

Allaah تعالى also said:
﴿وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا﴾
{And Ḥajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Kabah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allaah, those who can afford the expenses} [4]

But with the advent of cameras and social media, the goals of many people have shifted. It is like almost every other person is carrying a smartphone in his hand, and instead of concentrating on their supplications while doing Tawaaf and Sa
ee, they engage in talking with their families, taking pictures, making videos, and live streaming for their social media accounts, all the while lacking sincerity and with almost little to no concentration in their Ibaadah (worship). They are those who are seeking the Dunya (fame, wealth, publicity, likes, followings, etc.) with the actions of the Hereafter.

These pictures and videos will not solve the problems of the people in this world. What will solve the problems, remove the harm, and bring about good are sincere supplications. These pictures and videos will not help the people on the Day of Judgment. What will help them are the record books that the Angels on the right-hand side are filling. So, if the actions are sincerely for seeking the reward from Allaah alone, then this will benefit the doer. But if is for gaining likes and views on social media, then the purpose is lost. As the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said that a person who died as a martyr will be thrown into the Fire because he fought only to be called as a brave warrior. The reciter of the Qur’aan will be thrown into the Fire because he recited only to be called as a Qaaree (i.e., someone having a good voice). [5]

Umar Ibn al-Khaṭṭaab narrated that Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ said: ❝The (reward of) deeds depends upon the intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for the sake of Allaah and His Messenger, then his emigration will be considered to be for Allaah and His Messenger, and whoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain or for a woman to marry, then his emigration will be considered to be for what he emigrated for.❞ [6]

So, these devices in the hands of the people are “elephants” that not only distract the Believers from their Ibaadah but also make them commit Minor Shirk, invalidate their actions, nullify the rewards, and lead them towards Hellfire.

💠 Does the prayer of women differ from that of men?!

Maailk Ibn al-Huwairith رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: ❝Pray as you have seen me praying.❞
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (631, 6008, 7246)]

Umm al-Dardaa’ used to sit in the Salaah like men and she was a woman well-versed (in religious knowledge).
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (1/165)]

🔒Question: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated: ❝Pray in the same manner you have seen me praying.❞ We understand from this Hadeeth that there is no difference between a man and a woman as far as the manner of performing Salaah (Prayer) is concerned. I have been acting upon this Hadeeth since I attained the age of pubescence. However, some women in Kenya consider my Salaah invalid because the manner I perform it resembles the way men perform it. They claim that women are not allowed to place their hands on their chests like men do and that they are not required to level their backs while in Rukoo as the case is with men. I would like you to clarify for me whether there is really a difference between how a man and a woman offer Salah.

🎓SHAIKH IBN BAAZ رحمه الله:
❝Dear sister in Islaam, the correct view is that there is no difference between a man and a woman as far as performance of Salaah is concerned. There is no evidence to support the views held by some scholars that a woman’s manner of performing Salaah differs from that of a man. The Hadeeth which you mentioned in the question which reads: ❝Pray in the same manner as you have seen me praying❞, addresses all Muslims men and women alike. The general rule is that Islaamic laws are applicable to all Muslims unless there exists some evidence that specifies a certain category.

It is an act of Sunnah for a woman to perform Salaah in the same manner as men are ordered to perform it. This includes Rukoo
(bowing), Sujud (prostration), placing the hands on the chest when in the standing position, spreading the fingers out on the knees when in the bowing position, placing the two palms on the ground when in the prostrating position, raising the hands parallel to the shoulders or earlobes, and leveling the back in Rukoo. The woman should also repeat the same Duaa (supplications) and Adhkaar (remembrance of Allaah) which men recite in the different positions of Salaah. This is based on the Hadeeth in which the Prophet ﷺ stated: ❝Pray as you have seen me praying❞. Narrated by Al-Bukhaaree in his Saheeh.❞
📚[Majmoo Fataawa Ibn Baaz (11/79-80)]

🎓SHAIKH AL-ALBAANEE رحمه الله:
All that has been mentioned of the description of the Prophet's prayer ﷺ applies equally to men and women, for there is nothing in the Sunnah to necessitate the exception of women from any of these descriptions; in fact, the generality of his ﷺ statement: ❝Pray as you have seen me praying❞, includes women. This is the view of Ibraaheem al-Nakh
ee, who said: ❝A woman’s actions in the prayer are the same as a man’s❞ -transmitted by Ibn Abi Shaibah in Musannaf (2788), with a Saheeh Sanad from him. Also, al-Bukhaaree reported in at-Taareekh al-Sagheer (p. 95) with a Saheeh Sanad from Umm al-Dardaa’ that she used to sit in her prayer just as a man sits, and she was a woman of understanding. The Hadeeth about the Indimaam (tucking up) of a woman in prostration, and that she is in that regard not like a man, is Mursal and not authentic. Abu Daawood transmitted it in al-Maraaseel on the authority of Yazeed ibn Abi Habeeb. As for what Imaam Ahmad has reported, as in his son Abdullaah’s Masaa'il, from Ibn Umar, that he used to instruct his wives to sit cross-legged in prayer, its Sanad is not authentic, for it contains Abdullaah Ibn Umar al-Amri, who is a Da'eef (weak) narrator.
📚[Sifah Salaah al-Nabee ﷺ of Shaikh al-Albaanee]

📑 Note: The statement of Ibraaheem al-Nakh
ee, who said: ❝A woman’s actions in the prayer are the same as a man’s❞ the actual wording reported in Musannaf is: ❝The woman sits in the prayer same way as a man.❞ Shaikh al-Albaanee might have reported the meaning of this narration from his memory.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته،

⚠️ An important message and an urgent reminder!

The month of Ramadhaan is just a little over a month away from us. May Allaah make us reach the month of Ramadhaan in good health, safety and peace.

The month of Ramadhaan is also known as the month of Qur’aan. It is the month in which the Qur’aan was first revealed, upon the heart of our Prophet, Muhammad Ibn `Abdullaah ﷺ, brought to him by Jibreel عليه السلام, directly from our Lord.

This is the month in which we see many people reciting the Qur’aan, trying to complete the recitation at least once, or maybe more.

This is the month in which Taqwa increases manifold, and the Khair (goodness) becomes widespread throughout the month and throughout the land.

💢 💢 💢

❌️ But there is one thing which not everyone benefits from, in Ramadhaan and outside of Ramadhaan, and that is, the understanding the meaning of the Qur’aan and implementing its teachings, except those upon whom Allaah bestows His mercy.

🔥 Do you know the reason why?

⚡️ Do you know why most don’t find the sweetness in the recitation?

🔥 Do you know why most don’t understand its teaching, even when they know Arabic?

⚡️ Do you know why most are prevented from pondering over its meaning?

🔥 Do you know why Allaah turns away many from His Aayaat (the verses of the Qur’aan)?

⚡️ Do you know why we have so many reciters and memorizers of the Qur’aan, yet those who understand it are less, and those who implement its teachings are even lesser?

🌴🌴🌴

🔑 The answer to all these questions has been answered and explained by Shaikh Saaleh al-Usaymee حفظه الله.

💠 Where Should The Worshiper Look At When Praying:

🎓Shaikh Ibn al-Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:
“Most of the scholars are of the opinion that the worshiper should look at the place of his Sujood (prostration) when standing (Qiyaam) and bowing (Rukoo
). And when doing the Sujood (prostration), it is known that his eyes should stare at the ground. And when reciting the Tashahhud and the sitting between the two Sujood, he should look at his pointing (index) finger, i.e., at his (index) finger when he is pointing with it.”
📚[Fatawa Noorun alaa al-Darb (8/2)]

⚡The Permanent Committee:
“When doing Rukoo
, the worshiper should also look at the place of his Sujood. When he is reciting the Tashahhud, he should look at the finger with which he is pointing. When he is doing Sujood, he should look at the place where the eyes meet the ground.”

💠 Don’t Let This Regret Follow You Till The Entrance of Jannah!

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
❝No people sit in a gathering - in which they do not remember Allaah عز وجل and send prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ - except that it will be a cause of regret for them on the Day of Resurrection, even if they enter Paradise (because of what they missed out) of the reward.❞

📚 [Musnad Aḥmad (9965), Ṣaḥeeḥ Ibn Ḥibbaan (591, 592), and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (76). The verifiers of Musnad Ahmad also graded this Hadeeth as: “Ṣaḥeeḥ as per the conditions of al-Bukharee and Muslim”. Also reported by al-Nasaa’ee in Sunan al-Kubraa (10170, 10171) and Amal al-Yaum wal-Laylah (409, 410) from the Hadeeth of Abu Saeed al-Khudree رضي الله عنه, and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh Muqbil in al-Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Musnad (395, 1328), and al-Jaami al-Ṣaḥeeḥ (556, 1635, 3589, 4255)]

📑 Note: Even though these people will be granted entrance into Jannah because of their other good deeds, they will still regret it on the Day of Judgment, when they will see the rewards that will be given out to those who remembered Allaah and reminded other about Allaah in the gatherings and send prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ. They will regret the opportunities they missed out on in this world.

The author of Faiḍh al-Qadeer said: “The meaning of the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝even if they enter Paradise❞, i.e., even if they are destined to enter Paradise, then this regret will come before entering it, and there is no reason to assume otherwise because there is no regret after entering Paradise and nothing to ruin the joy.”

🎓Al-Shabee narrated that al-Shuraih said:
❝When I am afflicted with a calamity, I praise Allaah تعالى (by saying: Alhamdulillaah) four times for that:
1️⃣ I praise Allaah تعالى that He did not make the calamity severe than that
2️⃣ And I praise Him when He grants me to be patient about it
3️⃣ And I praise Him when He guides me to say al-Istirjaa’ (Inna lillaahi wa inna ilaihi raaji
oon)
4️⃣ And I praise Him when He does not afflict me in my religion.
📚[Siyar A`laam al-Nubalaa’ (4/105)]

📑 Note: The worst type of calamity is in religion, when a person is prevented from carrying out an obligation, or when a person abandons the good things he used to do.

As for the calamity in the worldly affairs, the wealth and health come and goes, but when the religion goes away, it is a sign of certain doom.

💠 The Seeds of Jannah and Seeds of Jahannam:

👉 The similitude of one’s good deeds is like that of the seeds that he has planted and will eat from its harvest in the Jannah:

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ
{Eat and drink merrily for what you did in the days gone by}
📚 [Surah al-Ḥaaqah (69): 24]

💢 {days gone by} meaning: this world

👉 And the similitude of the evil deeds is like that of the seeds that one has planted and will eat from its harvest in Jahannam:

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ ‎*‏ لَّا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَاطِئُونَ
{Nor any food except filth from the discharge of wounds, none will eat except the Khaati’oon (sinners, disbelievers, etc.)}
📚 [Surah al-Ḥaaqah (69): 36-37]

The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Whoever says: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ (Sub-ḥaan Allaahil-Aẓheem, wa bi ḥamdih) ‘Glory be to Allaah, the Incomparably Great, and I begin with His praise’ a date-palm tree is planted for him in Paradise.❞
📚 [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (3464, 3465) and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (64)]

The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: ❝I met Ibraaheem (عليه السلام) on the night of my ascension, so he said: “O Muhammad, recite Salaam from me to your Ummah (nation), and inform them that Paradise has pure soil and delicious water and that it is a flat treeless plain, and that its seeds are: ‘Glory is to Allaah (سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ Sub-ḥaan Allaah), and all praise is due to Allaah (وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ Al-ḥamdulillaah), and None has the right to be worshiped but Allaah (وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ Laa ilaaha illallaah), and Allaah is the greatest (وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ Allaahu Akbar).’”❞
📚 [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (3462) and graded as “Hasan li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (105)]

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ passed by him when he was planting a plant, and he ﷺ said: ❝O Abu Hurairah, what are you planting?❞ He said: “A plant for me.” He ﷺ said: ❝Shall I not tell you of a plant that is better than this?❞ He said: “Of course, O Messenger of Allaah.” He ﷺ said: ❝Say: “Sub-ḥaan Allaah, wal-ḥamdu-lillaah, wa laa ilaaha illallaah, wa Allaahu Akbar (Glory is to Allaah, praise is to Allaah, none has the right to be worshiped but Allaah and Allaah is the Most Great.)” For each one, a tree will be planted for you in Paradise.❞
📚 [Sunan Ibn Maajah (3807) and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (2880)]

🚫 But what is a delusion is that a person expects the fruits of Jannah while planting seeds of Jahannam.

Taking desires as "gods"

📗 Allaah says:

أَرَأَيْتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُ هَوَاهُ

{Have you (O Muhammad) seen him who has taken as his ilaah (god) his own desire?} [Surah al-Furqaan (25): 43]

🎓 Ibn `Abbaas said:
“During the Jaahiliyyah, a man would worship a white rock for a while; then if he saw another rock that looked better, he would worship that and leave the first one.”

🎓 Al-Hasan al-Basree said:
“Nothing comes to his mind except that he follows it (i.e. his desires).”

🎓 Qataadah said:
“By Allaah! Whenever a sudden desire comes to his mind, he mounts it. Whenever he lusts after a thing, he does it. Even with his righteousness and piety he is not able to constrain it.”

The life of a Believer should be in-between the two:
a) being grateful to Allaah for His innumerable favors
b) seeking His forgiveness for our shortcomings and sins

{And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favors of Allaah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful}

💠 Let not your smartphones distract you when you are in the company of someone:

👉 Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما narrated: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ took a ring and put it on, then he ﷺ said: ❝This distracted me from you all day, shifting my gaze from it to you (and back again).❞ Then he threw it away.

This is from the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ regarding the ethics of sitting in a gathering that a person should not be preoccupied with something that distracts him from the gathering or his guests for a long time. It is not Haraam, but this is not proper etiquette. Then what about when he is with his parents or either one of them? And what about the things that distract us from the remembrance of Allaah and His worship?

📚 FOOTNOTES:
[1] Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (5289) and Shaikh al-Albaanee said: “It is “Ṣaḥeeḥ” as per the condition of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim”, see al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (1192). Shaikh Muqbil also graded it as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” in Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Musnad

IBAADAH AND THE ELEPHANT

PART #6: SCHOLARLY ADVICE:

Shaikh Ibn al-
Uthaymeen رحمه الله said: “Also, in this narration, there is evidence that the Prophet ﷺ was keen to avoid anything that would distract him (in his worship) because he ﷺ looked towards the prints only once, and he ﷺ instructed that the garment be returned (to Abu Jahm). So, what about the people nowadays? One moment you would find a person looking at his watch (while praying), and another moment he is looking at his pen or his (fixing his) Ghutrah (head-kerchiefs) or his Mashlaḥ (the cloak worn over the thobe) (while praying). This is against the Sunnah, and this is what distracts a person and keeps him preoccupied.

Also, among the things that distract a person (in prayer) - from the things I heard from some people - is the pager (beeper). [1] And some pagers have high ringtones that disturb others. This is why, in a few places, some of the Imaams (of the Masaajid), before they start the prayer, they say: “May Allaah have mercy on you, straighten the rows and switch off your pagers.” This is correct, as the pagers cause disturbance.

Furthermore, (one also learns from this Ḥadeeth) that anything distracts one from the obedience of Allaah, or from doing an act properly or perfectly is a Fitnah (trial), because of the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝and I was afraid that it might put me to trial (by diverting my attention).❞ Anything that distracts you or preoccupies you from the obedience of Allaah or from completing an act properly, then know that it is a Fitnah.” [2]

Shaikh Ibn al-Uthaymeen رحمه الله also said: “As for the incident of the Khameeṣah, the Prophet ﷺ offered prayer in a Khameeṣah, it is a square garment having prints on it, i.e., lines (and patterns). The Prophet ﷺ looked at it only once (during the prayer), and after he ﷺ concluded the prayer, he ﷺ said: ❝Take this Khameeṣah of mine to Abu Jahm❞, as if Abu Jahm رضي الله عنه gifted it to the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ. And he ﷺ also said: ❝and get me the Inbijaaniyah (a woolen garment without marks) of Abu Jahm❞, as a consolation to the heart of Abu Jahm so that he does not end up thinking that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ rejected his gift and is angry at him. This is from the excellent manners of the Prophet ﷺ.

One also learns from this narration: The garment (Khameeṣah) distracted the Prophet ﷺ. (So, by mentioning this Ḥadeeth under this chapter heading), this indicates that al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله considered the preoccupation of the heart (in prayer) to be like turning away of the body because it is the turning away (while praying) in one’s heart (through thoughts that distract a person). [3]

Also, in this Ḥadeeth, there is proof that one should not pray around things that can distract him, whether it be prints and patterns on the rugs, near people conversing, or anything similar. The point is that one should not pray near anything that will distract him from the prayer (and preoccupy his thoughts).” [4]

Shaikh Ibn al-
Uthaymeen رحمه الله also said: “As for the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝Take this Khameeṣah of mine to Abu Jahm and get me his Inbijaaniyah (a woolen garment without marks) as it (the Khameeṣah) has distracted my attention while praying❞, the scholars have said that Abu Jahm gave this Khameeṣah as a gift to the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ returned it to him because it distracted him ﷺ (from his prayer). But so as not to hurt the feelings of Abu Jahm, he ﷺ requested the Inbijaaniyah of Abu Jahm, and this is from the most perfect manners of the Prophet ﷺ, and with this, the Prophet ﷺ was able to prevent the harm from two angles:

First, He avoided the harm of being distracted (in prayer) by the Khameeṣah by returning it to its owner.

Second, He ﷺ prevented the harm of breaking the heart of this person by requesting for his Inbijaaniyah in its place.

Scholars have said that Inbijaaniyah is a thick cloth, and it is not some soft, high-quality garment, and there would be no distraction through it.

the blessings which He had bestowed upon him) and he will recount them (and admit having enjoyed them in his life).
{but give good tidings to those who are patient. Those who, when disaster strikes them, say: "Indeed we belong to Allaah, and indeed to Him we will return."}
📚 [Surah al-Baqarah (2):155-156]

{And of the people is he who worships Allaah on an edge. If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face [to the other direction]. He has lost [this] world and the Hereafter. That is what the manifest loss is.}
📚[Surah al-Hajj (22):11]

And the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Indeed, greater reward comes with a greater trial. And indeed, when Allaah loves a people, He subjects them to trials, so whoever is content, then for him is pleasure (of Allaah), and whoever is discontent, then for him is wrath (of Allaah).❞
