The children learned “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost in our homeschool last year. I love that poetry is in their memory bank to bring out when we’re on trips like this.

“By destroying traditional social habits of the people, by dissolving their natural collective consciousness into individual constituents, by licensing the opinions of the most foolish, by substituting instruction for education, by encouraging cleverness rather than wisdom, the upstart rather than the qualified, by fostering a notion of getting on to which the alternative is a hopeless apathy, Liberalism can prepare the way for that which is its own negation: the artificial, mechanized or brutalized control which is a desperate remedy for its chaos. Out of Liberalism itself come philosophies which deny it.”
~T.S. Eliot

"Patience is necessary in this life because so much of life is fraught with adversity. No matter how hard we try, our lives will never be without strife and grief. Thus, we should not strive for a peace that is without temptation, or for a life that never feels adversity. Peace is not found by escaping temptations, but by being tried by them. We will have discovered peace when we have been tried and come through the trial of temptation."
~Thomas à Kempis

"Europe will return to the Faith, or she will perish. The Faith is Europe. And Europe is the Faith."
- Hilaire Belloc
Prayer is not an attempt to get God to agree with you or provide for your selfish desires, but that it is both an affirmation of His sovereignty, righteousness, and majesty and an exercise to conform your desires and purposes to His will and Glory.
John MacArthur
"This world is but a canvas to our imagination."
~Henry David Thoreau

"It is clear that we must trust what is difficult; everything alive trusts in it, everything in Nature grows and defends itself any way it can and is spontaneously itself, tries to be itself at all costs and against all opposition. We know little, but that we must trust in what is difficult is a certainty that will never abandon us; it is good to be solitary, for solitude is difficult; that something is difficult must be one more reason for us to do it."
~Rainer Maria Rilke

"Man is always separated from what he is by all the breadth of the being which he is not. He makes himself known to himself from the other side of the world and he looks from the horizon toward himself to recover his inner being."
~Jean-Paul Sartre

"A strong confidence in the end of the story does not undo or justify the absence of grief in the middle. A mature faith adds its tears to the sadness in our world. Jesus said 'blessed are those who mourn' all the while not losing confidence in how that sadness will eventually be overcome in Him."
- Rev. Chad Scruggs
Rev. Scruggs and his wife lost their daughter in the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, TN. Continue to pray for his family, the church, and this community.

St Jerome speaking on how to tame the body when concupiscence flares up
“I will tame you by hunger and thirst, I will load you with heavy weights and accustom you to heat and cold so that you shall think more of food than of pleasure”
