Do you mean San Francisco? It all depends on the specific district. Some parts of the city can be disgusting and dangerous because of the homeless folks and drug addicts on the streets. Others are still nice and cozy. The headquarters of the company I work for is in the business district, it's nice to go there a few times a year.

I wish I used these opportunities.. I even had a possibility once to visit Germany totally free and to live some time in a friendly German family (it was fully sponsored by the school). But I was scared and refused to participate. So I had never been abroad for all my life :)

Newark is an average small city in the Bay Area. It's okay. Nothing to brag about. There's a salt plant which belongs to the company called Morton. It's a well known brand of table salt here in California. Also Newark is an enclave as it's surrounded by another city, Fremont. In Fremont there's the first Tesla factory. Now when they discontinued Model S and Model X, the factory is used to make robots. In 2017 I was given a tour inside the factory and saw how the cars were made.
