🔍 Electric Capital's 2023 Blockchain Developer Report Analysis 🔍

Last week, Electric Capital released a report on blockchain developers.

They also launched a dedicated website showcasing live statistics of active developers across various blockchain ecosystems – from Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Polygon to newcomers like Aptos, Sui, and veterans like Dash and TON.

Here are some report highlights:

1️⃣ The number of developers in 2023 decreased by 24% to 22,411. However, developers with more than 1 year of experience grew by 16%.

2️⃣ Since the last bear market, there's been almost a 3x increase in developer numbers from 3,281 in Jan 2020 to 9,357 in Dec 2023.

3️⃣ A clear multi-chain trend: 34% of developers support multiple networks. Multi-chain support has grown tenfold since 2015. 87% of multi-chain developers work on at least one EVM network.

4️⃣ The US is losing developers. Its share decreased by -14% from 2018 to 26%. Southeast Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, West Africa, and Southern Europe have increased their share by +20% since 2018.

5️⃣ 40% of Bitcoin developers worked on scaling and L2 tasks. Only 3% focused on Ordinals. 42% of developers work on the top 200 projects outside Bitcoin and Ethereum.

6️⃣ Network fragmentation is becoming less of an issue. Networks are increasingly sharing developers among themselves. Ethereum, as the main and obvious donor, shares 6+ developers with 20 other networks!

7️⃣ Ethereum accounts for 71% of industry innovations, followed by BNB Chain at 19%, and Polygon at 7%, where innovation is measured by new code versus copied or adapted code.

8️⃣ Among the top 15 smart contracts on Ethereum, 10 are DeFi (UniSwap, 1inch, Metamask, Tether (USDT), Center (USDC), Maestro, Banana Gun); 2 are NFT (Blur, Seaport), 2 are L2 (Arbitrum, zkSync).

9️⃣ 75% of NFT developments were released on Solana and Bitcoin by the end of 2023. Ethereum ranks 5th after Polygon and BNB Chain.

🚀 5 Secret Tokenomics Lessons for Web3 Founders ! 🌐💰

1️⃣ Dynamic Supply Adjustment Mechanisms

Concept: This involves algorithms or rules embedded within a token's protocol that automatically adjust its supply based on certain criteria, such as price stability or demand changes.

Example: Ampleforth (AMPL) uses an elastic supply model. When demand increases and the price rises above a certain threshold, the protocol automatically increases the supply of AMPL tokens. Conversely, if the price falls below a certain level, the supply decreases.
