⚡️Turks attacked US servicemen — Reuters
In the Turkish port city of Izmir, two U.S. servicemen dressed in civilian clothes were the victims of an attack.
The Americans were stranded in Izmir as the US ship USS Wasp arrived there.
15 members of the Turkish Youth Union attempted to put a bag over the head of one of the Americans while shouting: “Yankees, go home”.
"American soldiers, who have the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians on their hands, cannot dirty our country. Every time you set foot on these lands, we will welcome you as you deserve,” the Union said on social media.
All 15 attackers were apprehended and the service members were safely transported back aboard the USS Wasp.
The media notes that relations between the US and Turkey have been quite strained lately due to a number of reasons: these include the US alliance with the Syrian Kurds, whom Turkey considers extremists, Turkey's purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems, and disagreements over the war in the Gaza Strip.
