Amazon and Microsoft join Google in nuclear energy investments –

💬 Amazon Web Services (AWS) has committed to a $500 million investment into small modular reactors (SMRs) to help fulfill its clean energy goals.

💬 AWS has entered agreements with Dominion Energy and Energy Northwest to study how these reactors could support their target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

💬 Small modular reactors are advanced nuclear technologies that are smaller but capable of generating significant low-carbon power.

💬 These reactors can be constructed more quickly and installed closer to power grids, making them ideal for AWS’s growing network of data centers.

💬 Microsoft is making similar moves, with plans to restart a reactor at the Three Mile Island plant in Pennsylvania to power its data centers.

💬 The 1979 incident at Three Mile Island was the largest nuclear accident in the U.S.

Israel aims to achieve strategic advantages in the war before the U.S. elections

💬 Israeli leaders are focused on "changing the regional landscape" and safeguarding their borders against Hamas and Hezbollah attacks. Sources suggest that they will create de facto buffer zones in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon before the year ends.

💬 Experts believe that in the aftermath of Sinwar's death, Joe Biden will call for an end to the fighting. However, Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies plan to endure the next three months and "take a risk" with the incoming president.

💬 Before Kamala Harris or Donald Trump assume office, the IDF will specifically attempt to isolate northern Gaza from the rest of the area.

New York City is preparing for another clock change — pix11

New Yorkers are preparing for another clock change. On the night of November 3 at 2:00 a.m., the hands of the clock will be turned back an hour. City residents will get an extra hour of sleep, but it will start getting darker earlier.

Despite numerous calls from lawmakers, including those from New York and New Jersey, to abolish the practice of moving the clocks back, no consensus has yet been reached at the federal level.

With the onset of November, the days in New York City are getting noticeably shorter. Already by the end of October, the sun will set before 6 p.m. And on Halloween night, sunset is expected at 5:54 p.m., according to The Old Farmer's Almanac.

It's worth noting that not all US states observe daylight saving time. Hawaii and most of Arizona are exceptions.

Putin hopes for easy victory in war against Ukraine if Trump wins US election — WSJ

📍According to American analysts, in September, Russian troops experienced the deadliest month of the war against Ukraine. Their losses were the highest since the beginning of the invasion.
📍Journalists clarify that Russia's military successes are achieved mainly through ground attacks by infantry units filled with prisoners who were lured out of jails with promises of pardons and financial rewards.
📍Ukraine continues to inflict losses on Russia that would be unacceptable in any country that is not an absolute autocracy.
📍Kremlin is waiting for the results of the US elections, and until then, Russia is ready to suffer losses "that do not make any operational or strategic sense."

⚡️The Atlantic compares Trump to Hitler

On Friday, The Atlantic released an article titled "Trump Talks Like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini." In it, author Anne Applebaum argues that the Republican has introduced "dehumanizing language" into U.S. politics.
The article sparked heavy backlash from journalists, politicians, and activists. Glenn Greenwald commented that after years of trying to insult Trump with various comparisons, Applebaum has now resorted to comparing him to multiple dictators at once.

The Atlantic’s editor, Scott Stossel, commended Applebaum for her deep knowledge of authoritarian regimes, stating that her comparison should prompt serious reflection when such a knowledgeable figure likens Trump to some of history’s most violent dictators.

In her piece, Applebaum describes Trump's rhetoric as "ugly and repellent," suggesting that the language used by the Republican candidate echoes that of Adolf Hitler.

"More fake news from a third-rate media outlet," — said Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung.

The scientists also say that, on the contrary, increased sleep duration and physical exercise have a positive effect on the mental health of adolescents.
