Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Mercy Chinwo’s Manager Over Alleged $345,000 Fra¥d following a petition from the gospel singer.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an arrest warrant for Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The warrant was granted on Thursday following an ex parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Representing the EFCC, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari informed the court that the application was brought under Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Buhari urged the court to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance to face criminal charges, adding that the EFCC would issue a public summons declaring him wanted if the arrest could not be executed.

Nigeria, despite being Africa’s largest oil producer, has faced decades-long energy challenges, with its state-owned refineries largely non-functional.
This has forced the country to rely heavily on imported refined products, a trend worsened by fuel price hikes following the removal of subsidies in May 2023.
Prices have soared from ₦200/litre to around ₦1000/litre, exacerbating economic pressures on citizens already grappling with inadequate power supply.
The $20 billion Dangote Refinery, owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, began operations in December 2023 with an initial capacity of 350,000 barrels per day (bpd).
It aims to achieve full capacity of 650,000 bpd by the end of 2025. The refinery is already supplying diesel, petrol, and aviation fuel to marketers across Nigeria.
This development marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector, potentially easing fuel shortages and reshaping the country’s fuel import dependency.

Teacher remanded in Kirikiri prison till February 18 for a§§aulting a 3-year-old boy in Lagos.
A magistrate court in Ogba area of Lagos state has remanded Stella Nwadigbo, the teacher who was seen in a viral video a$$aulting a three-year-old pupil.
She was arraigned before the court on Thursday by the Lagos state police command over indecent treatment and a§§ault of the child.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement said: “Following receipt of the video, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of Ikorodu Police Division promptly arrested the suspect on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 and transferred her to the Gender Unit of the Command Headquarters same day after preliminary investigations.
The victim was taken to a medical facility for adequate medical attention. The suspect has since been remanded to Kirikiri Correctional facility till February 18, 2025 when the case comes up for continuation of hearing.”

Edo Taskforce Sacks Official For Dr+gging Steering With Driver In Viral Video.
The Edo State Public Response Safety Team has sacked its officer seen in a viral video dragging the steering with a bus driver in Benin City, the state’s capital.
The Coordinator of agency, Kelly Okungbowa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
According to him, “First of all, I want apologise to the general public for the conduct of our officer in that viral video. There is no perfect society and the person that erred in that video has been sacked to serve as deterrent to every member of the Commission.
I wish to tell the drivers that we are not their enemies, but their friends. Ours is to make sure that we do what is right by ensuring that there is order in Edo State, most especially in Benin City.

Dangote Refinery Reduces Nigeria’s Dependence on European Fuel Imports – OPEC.
The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has highlighted the impact of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on global fuel markets, noting that its production has significantly reduced Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products from Europe.
In its Monthly Oil Market Report published on January 15, 2025, OPEC stated that the Lagos-based refinery’s gasoline production and exports to international markets are reshaping global gasoline supply patterns.
“The ongoing operational ramp-up efforts at Nigeria’s new Dangote refinery and its gasoline exports to the international market will likely weigh further on the European gasoline market.
Continued gasoline production in Nigeria… will most likely free up gasoline volumes in international markets, calling for new destinations and flow adjustments for the extra volumes,” the report stated.
