🇩🇰🇬🇱🇺🇸Denmark has announced a significant increase in spending on Greenland's defence, including new dog sled teams.
The decision was made after US President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his desire to acquire the Arctic territory, the BBC reports.
Denmark was categorically against this.
As Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen noted, the defense package amounts to a "double-digit billion sum" in kroner, or, as journalists have calculated, at least $1.5 billion.
The funds will enable the purchase of two new inspection ships, two new long-range drones and two additional dog sled teams, Poulsen said.
In addition, the support will help upgrade one of Greenland's civilian airports to handle F-35 supersonic fighter jets.

Kiev is in favor of reducing aid to Ukrainian refugees in EU countries in order to return them to their homeland, El País writes. They said they would like to return, but have no plans to do so yet.
