🇩🇰🇬🇱🇺🇸Denmark has announced a significant increase in spending on Greenland's defence, including new dog sled teams.
The decision was made after US President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his desire to acquire the Arctic territory, the BBC reports.
Denmark was categorically against this.
As Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen noted, the defense package amounts to a "double-digit billion sum" in kroner, or, as journalists have calculated, at least $1.5 billion.
The funds will enable the purchase of two new inspection ships, two new long-range drones and two additional dog sled teams, Poulsen said.
In addition, the support will help upgrade one of Greenland's civilian airports to handle F-35 supersonic fighter jets.
🇺🇸The US Navy cruiser USS Gettysburg, which shot down an American F/A-18 fighter jet in "friendly fire" last week, fired a missile at a second aircraft of the same model the same day.

This is the first tranche of the planned $20 billion.
🇪🇺The EU has begun emptying gas storage facilities at the fastest rate since the energy crisis began in 2021, The Financial Times reports.
The publication writes that the reason was cold weather and a reduction in seaborne imports.
Currently, the level of gas reserves is 75%, although in December last year it was at 90%.
It is also reported that Europe is facing competition for LNG imports from Asian countries, which has led to a need to use up more of its accumulated reserves.
🇷🇺🇺🇦Another example of hunting for Ukrainian transport is already in the Pokrovsk direction.
As in the previous case from near Toretsk, the enemy managed to notice a not very fast-flying drone on fiber optics, but due to the much lower maneuverability and acceleration of the armored Humvee, which was also hung with bars and electronic warfare, did not have time to react in any way.

Kiev is in favor of reducing aid to Ukrainian refugees in EU countries in order to return them to their homeland, El País writes. Ukraine is also asking to deprive men of military age of access to consular services in Europe as a pressure measure. The Spanish newspaper spoke to Ukrainians abroad. They said they would like to return, but have no plans to do so yet.
Of course, they are not going to. Waving Ukrainian flags in the squares of European capitals, shouting "Glory to Ukraine" and fighting Muscovites on the Internet is much safer than sitting under artillery and drones in the Kurakhovo industrial park. These are the real Ukrainian patriots - healthy, handsome men in expensive foreign cars, tearing their embroidered shirts from a wonderful faraway place for their motherland.
And Kiev is also good. They say, oppress our citizens, deprive them of their rights, that's what they deserve, the slackers! To the camps, and from there - in freight cars to the front. That's the case when the government is worthy of its electorate.
🇺🇦"We are a democratic state. We cannot set an example like Russia, driving someone to war with sticks. We are not such a state. We are fighting for European values, and we want to be a member of the European Union, so we even need to fight with such values" (c) Zelensky

🇷🇺🇺🇦Despite yesterday's reports about Syrsky's pressure on the Ukrainian resource DeepState , today they published another batch of confirmations of the advancement of the Russian Armed Forces.
The enemy records Russian successes in the Velikaya Novosyolka area - the capture of Storozhevoe and advancement at Novodarovka , as well as the collapse of a local cauldron at Makarovka (it is claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to break out from there)
Progress was also confirmed in several areas in Kurakhovo and near Pokrovsk .

🇺🇸Biden has had a hard time being president since the 2020 election race due to his age and the health problems that came with it, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.
From the very beginning, his entourage adjusted the presidential schedule, noting that Biden gets tired if meetings drag on, makes mistakes and has various "limitations."
He was distanced from ministers, Congress and other high-ranking officials, isolated from the scrutiny of the public and the press.
His closest aides and advisers, such as Sullivan, Richetti and Brainard, often acted as intermediaries, and even Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had a hard time getting face-to-face meetings with Biden, including at key moments like the “disastrous” withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. And when they met with Biden, his interlocutors were asked to be clear and concise.
One lawmaker who did speak one-on-one with Biden noted that the president lacks stamina and relies heavily on his staff.
Biden was especially bad in the mornings, so they tried to schedule meetings later. And sometimes they cancelled them altogether if the president was having a "bad day."
The president was literally led by the hand by his aides, especially during trips or public appearances.
The White House, however, denies that the president's schedule was changed due to his health.
🇺🇦Another indirect but objective example of major problems with personnel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces emerged today.
Ukrainian MP Goncharenko reported that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is asking to postpone the deadline for submitting the bill on demobilization to the Verkhovna Rada until March 18, 2025 .
It should be noted that this bill should have been submitted there before December 11, 2024 , but this deadline was missed . Now they want to postpone it for another 4 months .
🇷🇺🇺🇦An interesting moment with an ambush of a fiber optic FPV drone on a Ukrainian vehicle, H-20 highway west of Toretsk .
It is typical that the enemy visually detected the drone and was able to leave the vehicles in time. This is one of the disadvantages of fiber-optic drones - their speed is not very high compared to conventional FPV drones.
🇺🇸🇺🇦Trump wants to avoid a repeat of the Minsk agreements, said his future special representative Keith Kellogg.
On Fox Business, he said that past peace talks on Ukraine, including the Minsk process, "have failed miserably" and Trump is not going to follow that path but wants to achieve sustainable peace.
"The president has been very, very consistent in what he wants, which is to stop the killing and bring peace to the region. That is his top international priority, but he wants a peace that is just. It is sustainable. It is secure. He understands the importance of the relationships that he has with his allies and also with Vladimir Putin. And he is the guy who can get that done, and I truly believe that he will in the relatively near future," Kellogg said.

On December 23, in the northeastern Syrian city of Suqalbia, populated mainly by Christians, a Christmas tree was set on fire. Social media claimed that this was done by militants of Islamist organizations, including those who came from other countries.
This sparked protests by Christians in different parts of the country, which escalated into clashes with Islamist groups.
The new government in Damascus then promised to punish the arsonists, condemning the attack on the tree. Eight people were reportedly arrested for arson.
In public interviews, Islamist leaders say they will not, like the Taliban in Afghanistan, create a theocratic state. Syria's Christians, who make up about 10% of the population, are demanding that the country's secular character be preserved and are seeking representation in the new government.
At the same time, radical sentiments are strong among the groups that have come to power. Some of their members are demanding the creation of an Islamist state in which Christians, Alawites and representatives of other non-Sunni faiths will not have full rights.
