Egypt🇪🇬, The Valley of the Kings in Luxor

The Valley of the Kings in Luxor is an archaeological site of world significance located in Egypt. It was here that the famous tomb of Tutankhamun was found with thousands of priceless artifacts.

In the Valley of the Kings there are dozens more tombs of the pharaohs who ruled Egypt in the II millennium BC. The underground catacombs are decorated with amazing frescoes and mysterious inscriptions.

Unfortunately, almost all the graves have been robbed for centuries, and the rich burial inventory has long disappeared. But the wall paintings have been perfectly preserved, and the sculptural bas-reliefs are intact. These works leave vivid impressions.

Spain 🇪🇸, Linares Palace

The Linares Palace, known in the early years as the Murga Palace, is a building in the Spanish city of Madrid, located between the Paseo de Recoletos and the Calle de Alcala, opening with its main facade the Plaza de Cibeles.

It occupies the territory of the former Molinos de Plata and Posito Real de Madrid, a large grain warehouse designed to solve possible supply problems in the city. It was closed and unused for almost a century, but after painstaking restoration, it was reopened in 1992 as the House of America/Casa de América.

In 1992, in honor of the anniversary of the arrival in America of Christopher Columbus and the European cultural capital of Madrid, the Palacio de Linares was reopened after repairs carried out by architect Carlos Puente Fernandez as the House of America, the center of cultural exchange between Spain and America.

India 🇮🇳, Harihar Fort

One of the extreme attractions of the Indian state of Maharashtra is Harihar Fort, also known as Harshagad Fort. It is located in the Nashik district on a tall single rock, in which giant stone steps are cut down.

The fortress was built in the Trimbak mountains by the Ahmadnagar dynasty (sultanate in the western part of India), which ruled from 1490 to 1636

The top of the almost 100-meter cliff has a flat triangular shape and is surrounded by natural walls so that you can get there only through a hole cut in the rock, to which a staircase leads from below.

India 🇮🇳

Kalavantin Durg Peak with a height of 685 m is located in the mountains of Maharashtra. There are exactly 700 steps cut into the solid rock, stretching upwards almost vertically, leading to its top.

The steps are incredibly dangerous, especially if it rains. They are too smooth, as if polished, so slipping on them and sliding down is a couple of trifles.

Despite this, a stream of those who want to test themselves and climb tends to the peak.

South Africa 🇿🇦, Hovik Waterfall

The 111-meter-high Hovik Waterfall was discovered by Europeans in 1800, but back in the 50s of the last century it was difficult to get here. And this was explained not only by the impassability of the jungle, a curse hangs over the lake and the waterfall itself.

It is believed that a giant snake lives in the waters of the lake, attacking people from time to time. Legend has it that Inkanyamba, a monstrous creature with the body of a snake and a head the size of a horse, is hiding in the pool. The beast is believed to be most feared in the summer, when its fury sends storms and hurricanes throughout the region.

What is true here and what is fantasy is hard to say, but one thing is for sure – the place is mystical in its beauty.

USA 🇺🇸, Anthony Chapel in Arkansas

Maurice Jennings, an outstanding architect from Arkansas, based on his 25 years of experience working with world-renowned design partner Faye Jones, created a truly impressive chapel.

The chapel is a vivid example of "organic architecture" that reveals the properties of natural materials and wonderfully fits into the surrounding landscape thanks to its unique design.

On sunny days, 425 windows let in so much light that additional lighting is not needed, although the presence of lamps is provided.

A special feature of the chapel is its non-confessional nature. Anyone, regardless of religious beliefs, can enter here.

Italy 🇮🇹, Calcata

For 3 thousand years, people have used the flat surface of the volcanic rock as a safe haven from attack. A single road, blocked by gates, leads to the site surrounded by cliffs.

Since there was nowhere to expand horizontally, the construction went vertically, but not up, as is customary, but down. For thousands of years, the rock under the houses has been pitted with multi-tiered cellars. Eventually, in the 1930s, the government became worried that it would all collapse someday. New houses were built nearby on flatter places and people were forced to move there.

However, in the 1960s, artists began to move into houses abandoned in such a picturesque place, followed by hippies and just squatters looking for warmer places on Earth. The ban on settlement was canceled, completely odious characters were kicked out, and the rest were offered to formalize ownership of housing and assume obligations to maintain the cultural object in order.
