Kristina Mikavica’s story — the first visually impaired InteRussia fellow — is one you don’t forget⭐️
During the selection process, experts usually focus on experience, education, and motivation. Kristina had all of that in her application. But at the very end, there was one short line: “I can barely see (90% vision loss).”
This detail could have gone unnoticed. Yet it became the beginning of a story that makes you rethink what we mean by “limitations” and “opportunities.”
Kristina’s story is not just about a fellowship. It is an example for anyone who hesitates, postpones, or is afraid to take a step toward their dream.

📌 And if you’re ready to take a step toward your dream, apply for the Russian Studies fellowship. The time to stop being afraid has come.

Today we celebrate the birthday of a person whose energy seems to run on its own special fuel — Sergey! 🎁
Our Deputy Director, a generator of ideas, who can turn even the most serious discussion into a lively exchange of inspiration. If something exciting is happening around the InteRussia universe, chances are Sergey has already thought about it, improved it, and added three more ideas on top.
He moves faster than most to-do lists, always thinking ahead, connecting people, launching new initiatives and reminding us that even the boldest ideas can become reality if you have the courage — and the drive — to pursue them.
Sergey, may your year be filled with new projects, new discoveries, and the same unstoppable energy that inspires everyone around you. And of course — with moments to celebrate the results of all those brilliant ideas.
Happy Birthday! ❤️

For many fellows, Vanya is a mentor they can always rely on. He listens attentively and approaches every question with thoughtfulness and respect.
Drawing on his expertise in international relations and Iranian politics, strengthened by his fluency in Farsi, he brings depth, clarity, and insight to every discussion. Yet beyond his professionalism, he shares something equally invaluable — steady support and a genuine belief in the potential of each person.
