🥤 Which trademarks protect the Coca-Cola brand in the USA
Today, we will delve into the brand protection of one of the most popular sweet beverages.
The history of the Coca-Cola brand is surrounded by a plethora 🥤of myths and legends, which we will refrain from retelling. More interestingly, let's explore the legal protection that this brand has gained during its existence in the USA.
In this regard, the company can be called a pioneer in the field o🥤f brand protection through trademarks.
The oldest trademark with the well-known logo dates back to 1893. Its legal protection is still in force, as the company consistently renews it.
There are many verbal trademarks protecting the brand name - to be precise, the WIPO search engine gives us the figure of 3,461. However, this multitude also includes combined signs, and the WIPO search engine does not take into account some national registries, so the actual number of trademarks protecting the "Coca-Cola" designation remains a mystery. However, today we are discussing one jurisdiction, so let's highlight one of the oldest active verbal marks registered on January 31, 1928.
Separate attention should be given to the graphic signs protecting the recognizable wave. There are quite a few of them (after all, it is one of the most popular brands in the world), but the oldest and still active one is this specimen.
Also worth mentioning is the sign protecting the glass Coca-Cola bottle dated 1960.
And the cherry on top is the sign protecting Santa Claus. A thought-provoking question: do you need permission from the company to dress up as Santa Claus in the USA?
Unfortunately, we did not find a color trademark protecting the famous red color, and the company also bypasses such a wonderful tool as positional trademarks.
