Halle – Das Chemieunternehmen Wacker will in Halle zukünftig viele Millionen Dosen Impfstoff produzieren. In einem neu eröffneten Kompetenzzentrum sollen Wirkstoffe auf Basis von sogenannter Messenger-Ribonukleinsäure (mRNA) hergestellt werden, wie Wacker mitteilte. Der Bau des Zentrums hat nach Angaben des Unternehmens über 100 Millionen Euro gekostet.
Bislang seien in der Einrichtung über 100 neue Arbeitsplätze entstanden, erklärte das Unternehmen. Den Angaben zufolge sollen in dem Kompetenzzentrum jährlich über 200 Millionen Impfdosen produziert werden können. Im Fall einer Pandemie soll das Zentrum zukünftig auch Kapazität für die Bundesregierung zur Verfügung stellen können, um Deutschland schnell mit Impfstoff zu versorgen.
