На новом инфракрасном снимке можно заметить яркую полярную шапку облаков. Поскольку Уран вращается на боку с наклоном около 98 градусов, четверть каждого года на седьмой планете, Солнце светит над одним полюсом, погружая другую половину планеты в темную зиму продолжительностью 21 год. (Один оборот вокруг Солнца планета совершает за 84 земных года). Полярная шапка становится все более заметной, когда полюс планеты начинает указывать на Солнце, планета приближается к солнцестоянию и получает все больше солнечного света. Уран достигнет точки солнцестояния в 2028 году.
Кроме северной полярной шапки на снимке можно увидеть внутренние и внешние кольца в том числе ближайшее к гиганту рассеянное дзета-кольцо. Также на снимке можно разглядеть малые спутники внутри колец ледяного гиганта, на фотографии 14 из 27 известных спутников Урана. Ближайшие к кольцам (Розалинда, Пак, Белинда, Дездемона, Крессида, Бьянка, Порция, Джульетта и Пердита). Внешние за кольцом (Миранда, Умбриэль, Оберон, Титания, Ариэль).
Снимки получены с помощью камеры NIRCam (камеры ближнего инфракрасного диапазона).
