In the 60s the Japanese build the 515km Tokaido Shinkansen in 6 years counting from approval in 1958 to opening in 1964, blasting through mountains and various terrain, all while literally inventing modern high speed rail.HS2 received royal assent in 2017 with the cut-back 230km across comparatively flatter land expected to be complete around 2030 and that's not including the link to Euston. Minimum of 13 years.Japan = 86km per year. Britain = 18km per year. 50 years of progress??

So, I just finished watching Jamie Foxx’s Netflix special, and...wow. Has anyone ever loved themselves more? I mean, the man literally sang and danced about himself for an hour straight. Don’t get me wrong, he’s talented, but this was next-level self-admiration.It was like watching someone throw their own surprise party, and then spend the whole time giving a speech about how awesome they are—complete with choreography. By the end, I felt like I should’ve sent him a card that just said, “Congrats on being you.”Is this what peak self-confidence looks like? Should I be inspired or concerned?

ELI5 What is Psychosis? I’m not really understanding. So is psychosis essentially a brain disorder that makes you think things are real when they aren’t, I feel like this is hard to comprehend, if I know a crayon can’t be standing up looking at me in my hallway why would I think it’s real? I feel like maybe I’m uneducated and have never gone through something to make my brain go that route. But like this just seems counterproductive to be in a constant state of whatever “Psychosis” entails. I guess explain like I’m 5 but like how does someone go from being a normal dude living his life to seeing visions and hearing things, why would you believe it and I feel like I’d just snap out of it and realize what I’m experiencing sounds like something from a movie so maybe I should really just go to work and stop living in my head. Is it all an illusion and people that suffer from it can’t tell or aren’t aware of how things cannot be real?

I think Netflix’s model will be a thing of the past one day

Okay. So many of us are often flabbergasted by Netflix many faulty sales or whatever model. Episode limits (8 episode model?), rushed shows when based on novels, mangas, and successful animated shows (live action of Avatar The Last Airbender, umbrella academy's ending, the ending of Arcane, GOT [oh wait that's hbo I guess this problem is rather a modern media entertainment problem not just Netflix problem but still], I'm even realizing stranger things could have been way better) and don't get me started on the high volume of low quality shows (from the picture, to the acting, to the multitude of plot line/storytelling holes). I'm currently watching Beastars and sure it may be a niche anime interest. But I see soooo many animes that are just like any other on Netflix (I would be delighted to be enlightened though so please let me know if my observation could be corrected) and I can't understand whyyyyy. I'm thirsty for better media. I would be more absorbed by my own day dreaming of a continued story lines or improved story lines of shows they either discontinued or caused the downfall of than the 100's of space wasters that Netflix puts out and even seems to continue putting out seasons of. Insanity.When it comes to media entertainment - which is an art form- we as viewers crave quality and depth. Craving art doesn't mean "entertain me so I don't have to produce my own dopamine or whatever," rather it means "please don't tell me I'll relate to something or have a profound experience engaging in art that focused on quantity over quality." It's not even the low quality part...it's the sentiment that quantity over quality MEANS for artistic expression. Like as if the mean purpose of art is consumerism. You could have quality in high quantity. But valuing quantity over quality in the Art’s is profoundly backwards to how we thrive as humans. One day I hope we can laugh about media and film once was hijacked by consumerism or profits. This model of live streaming platforms makes me want to get rid of Netflix all together. Bojack is the only show on Netflix that comes to mind that actually succeeded in my opinion. Like they kept that one going for a while woo though a horribly rushed ending. If bojack came out today I speculate that they still wouldn't give it more than 3 seasons. Maybe not all of this I specifically complained about is Netflix's problem alone but this quantity over quality issue gets worse and worse when art means capitalism. What's funny is how it encourages me to just a read a frickin book instead. A book that takes work to read (I have adhd and read incredibly slow) will be more exciting than majority of media entertainment.I will edit this for any typos lol. Opinions/suggestions to my opinion are welcome

“It’s ends with us” ways that she’s responsible for creating the drama and danger

Let’s unpack some of the things that are extremely wrong with Lily Bloom’s character and why she not attracts but literally draws out / creates violence for herself. Before you get triggered and mistaken this as victim blaming, note that I am a liberal, passionate feminist, and feel there is zero tolerance for violence. Now, how does she create it and draw it? 1) “No” doesn’t mean no. They show us that early in the relationship she missed the signs because he was violent with the chair as if that was the key red flag. No. The seed for their problem dynamic starts when she plays around with “no” in the party. It feels like the way her dazzling life and style is glorified romanticizes some of those behaviors like the drama of lying being cryptic and using “no” as a toy. — We as women are conditioned (even by this movie) to think this mystery pretty girly elusive act is cute say no and tease make him work for it. If you say yes they will use you and dump you but if you say no they will eventually marry you. This plants a toxic dynamic. the stairs issue, give the person running away space. This culture of wanting to be followed when you storm out of a room creates broken boundaries. Ideally when someone storms give them space to think and breathe. 2) Lack of honesty, being cryptic, lyung by omisión - lacking transparency Roles reversed her behavior would bring the crazy out in any woman. It creates mistrust when there is no full clear explanation. Healthy correct thing to do:- Introduce atlas to Ryle after recognizing him. But it’s understandable if it was a shock and wasn’t ready. — so then she could have cleared the air and told him after they left. It is a duty to our partners to be honest and transparent about this type of thing. Lies take ugly roots. when asked about the tattoo. HONESTY should have said it was from first love. Period. It’s not a big deal unless you lie about it. The lying makes monsters of the most normal healthy people. when asked about if she still loved Atlas. HONESTY. If you genuinely don’t know - sit and practice some self awareness so you can know. I’m feeling many feelings right now but let’s get back to this. Then actually do. It is absolutely natural to have a special place for someone for the rest of your life if it was real. I appreciate the ending where she stuck to saying no but I think it’s so important to have awareness of ways that our lying and our creating of drama as we waltz around with no self awareness draws the worst out of people who otherwise maybe wouldn’t have been violent.

When I was younger, I watched the movie Cake (2015) starring Jennifer Aniston, and I thought chronic pain was just a result of someone being really depressed and, as a result, feeling constant pain. That was the first time I heard that word. I later came across the term when reading about things like the opioid epidemic, but I never really understood what it meant.Recently, with all the discussion about Luigi Mangione being a patient with chronic pain, I’m curious to learn more. What exactly is chronic pain? How is it different from normal pain? And how is Luigi Mangione able to stand, walk, and even ride a bike despite dealing with chronic back pain?A medical explanation would be helpful too. For example, I know that cancer is the uncontrolled growth of malignant cells, so is chronic pain related to issues with bones, muscles, nerves, or something else entirely?

Time to say bye bye to Netflix

Recently I changed to an ‘ad’ plan with Netflix, which I thought was reasonable as it saved $5 a month and I just ignore ads anyway 😂. Today I got a rude shock that you can’t access all content on this plan 🤬there’s no option to go back on my slightly more expensive plan and the $18.99 option is just too expensive. They are losing me as a customer. Rant over. Anyone else facing this? I am in Australia 🇦🇺

ELI5: Why are hybrids more efficient than gas cars on the highway?

I get why a hybrid would get better milage in the city. But if you took a gas car and a a hybrid and cruised them both down the highway, when there is no breaking to recover, why does the hybrid still typically get better mileage. Seems like the hybrid would have more weight and losses in conversion from gas generation to electric?

Light is obviously passing from one side of your hand, through to the other, so why can't you see the outline of bones, which must be more dense than skin, fat and muscle???? Where are my bones.
