Books that should be movies
At /r/netflix
What are some books that haven't been turned into movies yet but definitely should be? Interested to hear your opinions! Here are my picks:The Orphanage By The Lake by Daniel G. Miller The Wrong Mentor by Matthew BenjaminThe Inmate by Freida McFaddenI'm a fan of psychological thrillers like Shutter Island, Memento, and Se7en. The twists, suspense, and intense mind games really keep me on the edge of my seat. But I'm curious if anyone has recommendations even for other genres that contain some hidden gems. I'm open to exploring different types of movies or books, whether it's a heartwarming drama, an exciting sci-fi adventure, or a gripping mystery. I love discovering new stories that may not be as well-known but have a lot to offer. Any suggestions for those "diamond in the rough" films or books that I might have missed?

ELI5: Why can’t human babies go to sleep by themselves?
At /r/explainlikeimfive
I’m trying to understand why babies need help going to sleep from their caregivers , whether it is rocking, shushing, etc. When left to themselves, babies get overtired and may end up crying to sleep. We adults can go to sleep without getting worked up (at least most of us) as well as little ones from other species. So why not human babies??

ELI5: Does Quantum mechanics really feature true randomness? Or is it just 'chance' as a consequence of the nature of our mathematical models? If particles can really react as not a function of the past, doesn't that throw the whole principle of cause and effect out?
At /r/explainlikeimfive
I know this is an advanced question, but it's really been eating at me. I've read that parts of quantum mechanics feature true randomness, in the sense that it is impossible to predict exactly the outcome of some physics, only their probability.I've always thought of atomic and subatomic physics like billiards balls. Where one ball interacts with another, based on the 'functions of the past'. I.e; the speed, velocity, angle, etc all creates a single outcome, which can hypothetically be calculated exactly, if we just had complete and total information about all the conditions. So do Quantum physics really defy this above principle? Where if we had hypotheically complete and total information about all the 'functions of the past', we still wouldn't be able to calculate the outcome and only calculate chances of potentials? Is this randomness the reality, or is it merely a limitation of our current understanding and mathematical models? To keep with the billiards ball metaphor; is it like where the outcome can be calculated predictably, but due to our lack of information we're only able to say "eh, it'll land on that side of the table probably".And then I have follow up questions:If every particle can indeed be perfectly calculated to a repeatable outcome, doesn't that mean free will is an illusion? Wouldn't everything be mathematically predetermined? Every decision we make, is a consequence of the state of the particles that make up our brains and our reality, and those particles themselves are a consequence of the functions of the past?Or, if true randomness is indeed possible in particle physics, doesn't that break the foundation of repeatability in science? 'Everything is caused by something, and that something can be repeated and understood' <-- wouldn't this no longer be true?

Just watched La Palma. Never have I been so mad at a show...
At /r/netflix
Started watching La Palma with my wife, mainly because we've been on holiday to Tenerife a few years back and the culture interested us. So we were curious about this show. The first 3 episodes were pretty solid. I personally didn't care that much for the family and think they could easily have been kept out and it would've been a good series. But let's ignore that. The build up from a fun family vacation to a absolute hell was very good I have to admit! I like it when movies or series do stuff like that. What kills it for me was the unrealism, and this is going to be a rant! Never before has the final episode of a show killed my mood so much! Firstly, how did the dad and the girl who's brother got killed (I suck at names) outrun a tsunami in a dinghy? A tsunami can reach speeds up to 800 km/h (500 miles per hour) and somehow they were fast enough to make it to safe land?Which brings me to my second point. How was that small beach NOT hit by a Tsunami that, according to the scientists in the series, would reach Southern Europe and even parts of South America? Seconds after they reached the beach the ocean behind them was calm. Like nothing happened. And now the straw that broke the camels back. The daughter and her girlfriend getting hit by the tsunami while in the plane. They survived that?! Absolutely ridiculous! If you would be hit by a tsunami like that your body would turn to shreds! The impact alone would kill you. And even if you somehow survived that you would drown. There's no way the water inside that plane would have been gone before people inside would have run out of breath. Nope, they just walked it off like nothing happened.I was really excited to watch this series and I did enjoy the first 3 episodes. But that last episode.... man. My initial thought was that this was a "realistic" series. More like a "what if" series. But this feels more like a fantasy/ superhero series in which such unrealistic things happen you start to wonder what's real and what's not. Not every movie needs a "and they lived happily ever after". And even if they wanted the movie to have such an ending make it a bittersweet ending.

Q about Households
At /r/netflix
Hi, I pay for Netflix Premium, which includes 4 devices at the same time. (I never download stuff.) While it is super rare that we watch on even 2 devices simultaneously, I often have been traveling to my parents house (as they are elderly and I take turns caring for them), and I recently tried to login there. I updated my household to there because it prompted me to do so, but it kicked my husband out at our residence. It prompted him the same, but then it kicked me out. Is it not possible to watch on 2 different WiFi sources at the same time? Is there not a travel option? I swear there used to be, but again, I haven't been in this situation for many months. What do you suggest? Do I need a second email for my husband? Can I have 2 profiles on my account? Should I downgrade to Standard since I obviously don't make use of Premium? Thanks for your advice.

Six Triple Eight would have been better as a tv series than a movie.
At /r/netflix
It's surprising this idea was a move and not a series. This movie was such an important part of history there's definitely potential for a follow up series. Tyler Perry gave an interview and talked about Lena and Abram's story. It was surprising to hear that Lena and Abrams's story really happened. There's a prequel there somewhere. There's also room to hear how other women who served in the battalion came to the unit.

Norbert Butz Voice Actor in La Palma?

Just started watching La Palma. It's good so far, but it's driving me bananas that I can't confirm if Norbert Leo Butz (one of the brothers in Bloodline, also Bill Belichick in a recent Aaron Hernandez show on FX) is doing the English voiceover of the dad, Fredrick, in La Palma.Anyone know for sure? ELi5: How do construction piles work?
At /r/explainlikeimfive
I know that on soft soil a building with a normal foundation would sink, and people would instead drive piles into the ground and then build on top of the piles. What I don't understand is how the piles stop the building from sinking, or for that matter, why wouldn't the piles keep on sinking into the soil anyway? Are the piles driven until they reach hard bedrock? If not, then how do they work?

Is it possible to store the mobile app version of Netflix onto an Android TV streaming box?

We're planning a getaway to an AirBnB with very poor internet.I have a Nvidia Shield TV and it has lots of storage, 512 GB.It currently has the Netflix Android TV app but that version doesn't let you save videos for offline viewing.I know the mobile app version does because I can save videos for viewing on the plane. However, I tried extracting the APK from my phone and installing it on the Nvidia Shield TV, but no dice. 😞Am I missing something?
