This came out of nowhere for me.I do not think I've been more emotionally distraught, angry, hopeless - utterly overwhelmed with grief - all of it at once from a movie in a long time, if ever. SPOILERThe scene where the raiding Apache open up the tent as the family prays. I...I just can't... I can't get my head around it. Wow just wow.

ELI5:Why is searching for a file so much slower on Windows vs macOS?

I'm a PC guy but have a Macbook Pro for audio stuff on the road. One thing I'm super jealous of is how much faster looking for a file is on macOS. It's near instant. On pc often its many minutes. What is it about the fundamental architecture between the operating systems that explains this huge discrepency? (ps: And yes I know if a folder is indexed its faster but that's besides the point. On a mac it just works the first time)

Best show I’ve seen in a while: Man on the Inside

The title says it all. But this was such a heart-warming show. One of the best shows I’ve seen on Netflix in a while. Great acting, laugh out loud moments, poignant, good storytelling and great cinematography. I am so enthused that there’s going to be a second season. 10/10 for me.

Are reviews of non-English shows poorer when the reviewer isn't used to subtitles?

I’ve been noticing something lately, and I’m curious if anyone else feels the same way. It seems like reviews of non-English shows often get lower ratings or feel less in-depth compared to English-language ones. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that many reviewers aren't used to reading subtitles? It feels like there's a certain disconnect when people aren't accustomed to watching things with subtitles, and it shows in their reviews.It seems to me that reviewers who are more familiar with non-English media are able to offer more thoughtful critiques, but those who are less used to subtitles sometimes struggle to engage with the show properly. Error: my iPad isn’t part of my Netflix household network, even though it should be

I‘m a bit stumped, yesterday everything worked perfectly.After having cancelled Netflix for a couple of months, I reactivated it two days ago. I watched a movie on my computer and Brooklyn 99 via the Netflix app on my iPad Pro.Now I can’t access Netflix anymore on the iPad app. It claims that my iPad is not part of the Netflix household, even though the router is like 5 meters away from me.Using Netflix in Safari on my iPad seems to work fine though? When I had Netflix cancelled, I moved to a new apartment with a different internet provider. Does this have something to with it? I thought it wouldn’t because I cancelled the Netflix plan altogether, and it doesn’t really explain why the iPad app worked fine yesterday. How can I change the household Netflix? I haven’t gotten around to setting up my TV yet, is that necessary?My iPad has the newest update, I tried to reinstall the app, nothing seems to work.Any ideas?

ELI5: Why did the Brazilian Real (BRL) devalued in 21% against the USD in 2024? What is really happening?

I have a general notion of the mechanisms behind it. For instance, I know the value of a currency is determined by supply and demand in a floating regime. Therefore, the BRL lost value because there were more sellers than buyers (capital outflow). I also know that a lot is said about Brazil's fiscal situation makes the market evaluate the government as a risky borrower. All that makes sense to some degree. However, I want to understand what is happening in a more nuanced manner, with less "vague" and more precise language, going beyond "the market doesn't like the government" types of explanation. Other mechanisms include monetary policy/interest rates, "speculative attacks", etc. But my question is in a context that a lot of people are offering divergent explanations for what's happening. And it's hard to make sense of it all because of (a) lack of precise language and (b) contradictions between different explanations.

Can't watch netflix while in whatsapp call?

Greetings,I've been having this issue ever since I started using Whatsapp which has been a long time now.I have a Samsung Galaxy S20+ and anytime I'm in a Whatsapp call, I for some reason can't get anything to actually play in the Netflix App. The app will open, but any time you actually try to play the movie/show, it doesn't do anything.Is there a way around this? Perhaps a web browser of some sorts that will allow me to watch Netflix while still in a Whatsapp call?Thanks

ELI5: Why do our conscious brains not get told about important stuff like pregnancy

So when things like illness or pregnancy happen within our body, we naturally use hormones and other internal systems to deal with it, for example, the production of hCG which is detected in pregnancy tests. What I'm wondering is if we are producing these extra hormones, why doesn't our conscious brain get told about it? Once she couldn’t come to her, she asked her boyfriend to go instead of her. He fell in love with this woman and they fled to Ireland. But after one year she left him bc of lack of money. This guy had an accident and he lost his memory. Back to his girlfriend and her friend: she still loved him and couldn’t imagine life without him so she found him in Ireland after accident, returned to Korea and pretended like they always were an couple.Sorry if there are a lot of mistakes I tried😭😭🙏

Eli5: how do terrible big budget movies even get made?

We have had some absolute bombs in the recent last. Madame Web, Morbius, strange world, and more. They lost hundreds of millions of dollars and were hated by viewers and critics alike. How can people who do this for a living not realize they are producing hot garbage and fix it before they're $200 million dollars in the tank? Don't they have test audiences?I'm looking at stuff like sonic the hedgehog and people hated the previews so the production team fixed it and it was a success. How can a quarter billion dollars be lost on these things when there are so many eyes on it at every step?
