Automatically translated subtitles as an option

I often watch with my wife and she speaks Portuguese, I speak German and we speak English with each other.But very often there are movies that don't have subtitles, which is annoying and inconvenient. Why was there no automatic translation into all languages for the subtitles? Even freeware software for subtitle editing can do this, but not the big streaming providers like Netflix, Disney or Prime and it would be so easy. It doesn't have to be perfect, but sometimes a simple translation helps.

Unpopular opinion; I found Blake Lively to be an awful character in this movie. There is no excuse for the actions that happened upon her character, however as a survivor of DV myself, I couldn’t help but watch her character cause so many issues in the relationship to start. Holding things back, not being up front and honest from the start. If it were me I would introduce Atlas from the beginning to my partner. Catching them in the bathroom? Having his number in the back of her case? Yeah, that’s damaging to any relationship. His actions following were inexcusable, I just can’t help but view this film as an inaccurate description to DV survivors and the reality of their day to day. There was a lot about the movie I did find was well made and beautiful. I found Justin to be amazing in the film. Afterwards I read about him producing and then I saw all the drama about Blake suing him. At first I was shocked, he’s never had this kind of image. He did a Ted talk about toxic masculinity and is known for being an advocate for survivors. However I still gave Blakey the benefit of the doubt, knowing most abusive men can have multiple personalities. After more research I found out about her bringing her husband on, having BL and RR redirecting the film in many important respects for the storyline. It all made sense now. I have learned so much about BL and RR, I feel really sad for Justin Baldoni. He owns the rights, has been working on this project and very passionate about its message since 2019. BL was brought in, in 2023. Anyone else have these thoughts? I’d love to hear about others views and opinions on the movie and what they thought about BL and JB’s story.

Thoughts on Current Plans

Hey guys, I was just wondering what everyone's feelings about the plans Netflix currently are offering and their prices in this sub-reddit. I am on the Standard with Ads plan and in my opinion it is the best Ads plan in the industry. Of course there are a few titles that can't be accessed with this plan but the amount of ads and duration of each break is monumentally less compared to other subscriptions like Disney+ or HBO Max (now MAX)!Would love to discuss about this with you guys!

ELI5: Why do people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s suddenly remember everything and seemingly show their old selves shortly before dying?

I’m not sure if I questioned that correctly; but, I hope this does make sense? Ive seen this shown in media, as well as seen this in my own life, that people with dementia will suddenly revert back to their old selves and remember old memories that they had ‘forgotten’ whilst having dementia/Alzheimers, and then pass away shortly after. Does anyone know why this happens?

Why YSK: Parents, as your kids start opening their gifts this Christmas, be wary of any electronic/battery operated toys that use AA/AAA batteries. There are a few toys that require 1.5v instead of 1.2v. If you’re a parent that tries to save a little bit of money not buying hundreds batteries and instead goes for rechargeable ones, the majority of rechargeable batteries are set at 1.2v and could be the reason your kiddo’s new toy isn’t working right off the pop. Try the standard Energizer Max/Duracell/etc. first before you angrily rush back to the store to return a seemingly broken toy.Source: found out the hard way setting up a toy that refused to work on rechargeable batteries because the voltage was too low.

Hey there, I've always wondered this, so that's why I'm asking it. I honestly have several questions. How do cats purr? What causes the sound and the vibrations? It's strange, because I don't feel when my cat meows, but I can feel when he purrs. Does the purring happen automatically? Or do cats intentionally do this? Why do cats purr to begin with? And is it necessary? Do other animals per? Or is it just cats? And do bigger cats purr, like lions and tigers?

So I’m watching Clickbait for the first time, S1E6, and I want to share my theories…

Please do not ruin anything for me, I know this is not a new show and therefore there is a definite resolution but where is the fun in that? This is how I enjoy things, I like to theorize and analyze, and see how close I get. Right now, after seeing this whole Simon and Sarah thing, I’m pretty positive Simon was behind the video, but I actually think it’s possible Nick took his own life or got beaten badly and due to the head trauma, he fell into that ravine. I also think he was threatened and pressured similar to how kids are cyber bullied and all…. And I think he was given an ultimatum, and did it himself but that doesn’t account for the whole van thing.

ELI5 How do HE washers clean clothes using so little water?

The new HE washers commonly sold today use very little water during the wash cycle. The washers from ten or so years ago, had water filled to the top. It would seem like more water equals cleaner clothes. Help me understand and put my mind at ease each time I see barely any water being used. Thanks!

Zombie movie search

I’m looking for a zombie movie I watched years ago (pre 2020) was around 2015-2017 ish time frame and the movie starts with a camera shot through a house with a little girl watching tv (at the end of the movie it goes back to that cabin and the girl is dead, that’s pretty much all I remember from the movie I try to think of more and I can’t tell what’s being mixed from other zombie movies. I know there was a “tv commercial” of a woman showering I’m pretty sure there was a cure in the form of an injectable. Again my memory is hazy I just remember liking the movie a lot and it having some like special ops running through it maybe. If it helps i use Canadian Netflix.
