ELI5: Why do people say that very rich people only donate money in order to get a tax break?

I want to start this post by saying that I’m not posting it in defense of billionaires, I just want an explanation how it works.A recent example I’ve seen is Taylor Swift. She donated (idek if it counts as donating, since it’s salary bonuses, but for argument’s sake let’s just say it does in this example) something like USD$175 mil to the people who worked on her Eras Tour. I saw a lot of people online who claim she only did it in order to use it as a tax credit (whether or not it’s true in this specific example is irrelevant, so just bear with me). To me that doesn’t make any sense. If she made $500 mil and paid a 40% tax, the tax bill would be $200 mil. But by claiming $175 mil in a tax credit her income would reduce to $325 mil. The 40% tax bill for $325 mil would be $130 mil. That’s obviously smaller than the $200 mil she would have had to pay otherwise, but when coupled with the $175 mil in bonuses she gave away it becomes $205 mil ($305 mil). So she lost out on more money than she would have had she not given the bonuses.THIS PARAGRAPH WAS WRITTEN BEFORE IT WAS POINTED OUT MY MATH WAS WRONG: Now I’m not convinced that her reasoning is 100% altruistic, because at the end of the day she only cost herself $5 mil ($105 mil) to gain a shit ton of good publicity. But why would “claiming it as a tax credit” be helpful in these situations?Edit 1: comment pointed out my math was wrong. 175 mil + 130 mil is 305 mil, not 205 mil.

I was in the washroom earlier and noticed lots of white hair in my beard. I didn't tweet, text, chat with anyone about this after that or do a Google search. Phone was in my pocket the whole time. Didn't have a face to face conversation with anyone either. But 2 mins later, I get a sponsored post for a black dye for beards. It was freaky honestly. And this isn't the first time it happened.

I (22M) have always had a bit of a nervous tick around chickens, dating all the way back to being a toddler. They always looked kinda unsettling to me and seem rather unpredictable, so I'm often worried that they're gonna jump at me and kick/peck me randomly for no reason (kinda like how wasps tend to fly at you and sting you randomly for no reason). Nowadays, I'm not really afraid, just nervous, but as a young kid I used to scream and flip out (don't judge me).Went to see my older brother at a mutual friend's chicken farm the other day, and my brother was like "he don't like chickens, bruh. He got kicked by a hen when he was a baby."I remember getting scared when a hen with chicks jumped and clucked around behind a fence as I walked past when I was 4, but that hen didn't kick me, it was behind a fence, and I was already afraid of chickens before that anyway.It must've been another hen when I was like 1-2 years old, because by the time I was 3 I was already remembering my life. How can remember that I'm afraid of chickens, but I can't remember the event that made me afraid of chickens as a baby?

Ronny Chieng special so phenomenal!!

This guy f-ing killed it. His audience couldn’t even keep up with his one liner references that were so clever. After I watched it, I had watched his special from 2022 and you can tell he did not hold back this time around. I mean he was honest about how he was there to take the audiences money. He was honest about how American culture is so twisted with money when it comes to their own parents and America. He made so many important points that people in general should really reflect on. I love this guy - reminds me so much of George Carlin. I had no idea who he was but I tend to watch what’s in the top 10 and this is. Not as heart felt as Jamie Foxx’s special but clearly a different story there. Ronny paid tribute to his dad at the end and I had some tears but I hadn’t laughed that hard in so long. I hope he does more specials/ tours - before he decides to peace out. I’d pay to see him to make me laugh. I wanted to see who else watched and everyone’s thoughts were. Did you love it as much as me or were you insulted like some people are by comedians these days?

I think I’m being simple here but, which Netflix plan allows more than 15 downloads per month? I just don’t want to upgrade and then still not be able to download more as that’s all I want.
