ELI5: Why can’t people see clearly in mirrors without their glasses?

I am near sighted so I have a lot of trouble seeing far away. It doesn’t make sense to me that far away things in a mirror are still blurry to me, since the mirror itself is flat and close. In my head, it would make sense to me that since the light bouncing off the mirror and into my eye is traveling a shorter relative distance than if I were to turn around and look behind me, that it should be more clear. If I use my phone camera or look at a photo, I can see just fine. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation but tbh I don’t even really understand how glasses work or why I can’t see far away in general so feel free to explain that too 😭💔🙏

Casting netflix from phone to laptop

Like the title says I'm looking for ways to cast a netflix show from my phone to my laptop. I have a premium account and No, I can't just stream it from my laptop because I don't have a reliable long term internet connection. No, I don't have an hdmi cable. No, I don't want to watch it on my phone because I have been dying to watch this show since a second season was announced and it deserves a bigger screen than my phone. So does anyone have any idea?

I live in LA, and I'm, seeing all the warnings about asbestos, lead, arsenic, etc from the fires burning houses, cars, etc. We also see the prevalence of PFAS, plastic, even the recent banning of red dye in our food system. Why has humanity designed our world to be so toxic and destructive to humans? I'm seeing more and more products on the shelves recently that are ostensibly safe compostable etc like containers made out of not plastic, or compostable silverwear

ELI5: If a 2% inflation rate is what the target is, why can't we set the target lower for a little while

I know governments have set a target inflation rate of 2% (I still don't understand why that's optimal), and since COVID the cost of everything has increased alot, then why can't the government just set the target at 1.5% until the economy meets up with where prices were trending towards if COVID never occured and then switch back to 2% at that point

ELI5, why do colleges offer scholarships for obscure sports?

I understand offering scholarships for things like football (american), basketball, or really any other commonly watched sport, as it drives more focus and attention to the school if they perform well, and to a certain extent that may extend into sports that are not super popular but still televised a little, like tennis. But why do schools offer scholarships for things like track or rowing or sailing? I know it's not out of the "goodness of their hearts and love for the sport", its all about making more money. How do they make money from offering a lot of money to kids who play sports that are fairly or very niche?

ELI5, Why are ginger ale and ginger beer non-alcoholic when most other beers and ales are inherently alcoholic?

Title. I was just curious because other than root beer, any time the word beer is used, it's in the context of an alcoholic drink. Same with ale. Off the top of my head I can't think of any non-alcoholic ale. Would love some insight.

ELI5 why headlice have not yet been eradicated in developed countries?

Sorry if it's a silly question. It seems every six months someone in my kids classroom or creche gets headlice. Everyone in the class has to do the treatment. There's no "immunity" if you've had them before. There are no vaccines. They'll just keep coming back and you have to keep treating it. Is there a reason modern medicine hasn't made this problem go away yet?
