CTRL movie starring Ananya Pandey: My Review

I saw a ctrl movie on Netflix yesterday. I couldn't hold myself back from watching it because it's teaser is too captivating. Apart from its teaser, it is only 1.5 hour long which makes user watch it thinking 'this one is short movies only, let's watch'.. On the same grounds of thoughts, I watched it yesterday.I am not here to spoil the movie but The Movie description itself spoiled that influencer couple won't be staying together... so when I started watching from the beginning itself I had this thing in mind that the couple is going to breakup. But there is one twist after that. The movie is well documented and very well shooted. It is thought provoking. It makes us aware of the dark side of web and our dependency on it. Downgraded to plan with ads after 14 years.

Hey Netflix, choke on a fat one. After 14 years as a customer, I log in to my account only to see that I now have a plan with Ads. After talking to customer service, they state basic plan is no longer an option. This is how loyal customers are treated. Bye Felicia.

Dolby subtitles too hard to read?
At /r/netflix
the subtitles on some anime series are too hard to read, they are a light grey, which can be read but its an extra strain. I didnt realize why they were like that at first, but then I noticed that the series that had these odd subtitles had a thing called Dolby vision. I dont know what that is or why it makes subtitles terrible, but how do I get the subtitles to be normal like all the other series? is it soemthing i can toggle?

ELI5: If the terminal velocity of a human is c120mph, how did Alan Eustace fall at a reported 822mph?

I was just scrolling through another sub and the Felix Baumgartner jump came up, along with someone mentioning that the record was broken by Alan Eustace in 2014.In the Wiki for this, it mentions he was falling at 822mph, however I thought a human's terminal velocity was 120mph (more if say, a skydiver was diving head first)... So how does this work? Is it as a result of the reduced air resistance and force of gravity increased therefore increasing the terminal velocity?Sorry, by no means a physicist!

“The Watcher”

So was The Watcher limited series meant to piss you off in the end? Literally, zero closure as you never find out who the watcher is. I hope there is a season 2 to actually bring proper closure because if it won’t then best believe I’ll be telling everyone who thinks about watching it to avoid this hot fucking garbage of a show.The whole thing is only attractive the first few episodes because it’s obnoxiously weird. So you naturally want to know who The Watcher is. But to be honest the show is kind of boring after the first 3 episodes, but you see it only has seven 45min episodes, so you decide you might as well finish it to find out who was behind it all and how the puzzle pieces fit together….instead you get left with nothing because the writers were too fucking stupid to come up with a proper logical ending.Sorry for the rant, felt like saving people their precious time who were considering watching this show.

Anyone else thinking this or is it just me? Truly genuinely congrats to Kristen Bell and her team for making a solid hit here. Cute story, great dialogue, easy watching, fun show. Buuuut the lack of diversity is distracting. Do the characters have friends that aren’t white? Makes me wonder if that reflects behind the camera, too.I’d love to see season 2 open the world to LA beyond white.

The first 2 episodes of this new anime dropped and its really good, I'm not really an anime person but this show really seems like another Vinland Saga. (A complex period dramas told threw the medium of anime not a battle show or slice of life.) It's really well written and you should check it out. (It's only in Japanese as of now.

ELI5: How are all of these companies able to buy musicians' music catalogs for hundreds of millions of dollars?

I just read that Sony bought the rights to Pink Floyd's catalog for something like $400 million. They also bought Bruce Springsteen's catalog for around $500 million. That's close to $1 billion for just two artists. There's a whole bunch of other artists who are also getting bought out which brings the grand total to billions of dollars.How are these companies getting the money to pay these crazy sums?What is their plan to make that money back? Commercials and film placement?Seems like you'd have to wait a veeeery long time to recoup these investments.

ELI5 Why does 5 mph slower feel like it adds a bunch of time but 5 mph faster doesn’t affect the eta much.

Something that’s always bothered me about driving is I can drive 5 mph over and barely speed up the gps, however if I accidentally drive 5 under the speed limit, (My brand new truck doesn’t have a speeding) it will add a bunch of extra time. Is there an equation or something that shows you how fast you’d have to go to actually lower the time needed to arrive. Is it just a mental thing or is it math. Any and all information welcome!

ELI5 : what do people mean when they say candles have “burn-memory”

So this often comes up when I see people talking about how their candles go fast. There tends to be a comment mentioning that it’s because of “burn memory” meaning that the FIRST time you light the candle, if it’s blown out too soon (before the melted wax reaches the edges of jar), then from there on it might not melt to the edges of the container ever again and will continue to tunnel downward every time you light it. I guess I know what they’re describing, but this makes zero sense to me. When you go to light it at a later time….how would the candle know and why not just continue melting outward 😩 Not trying to zoom through this weirdly expensive Boys Smell I was gifted recently
