ELI5: So what's the deal with standstill traffic?

Seriously though... I'm not talking about densely populated cities during rush hour. I'm talking about being on an open highway or interstate nowhere near any towns or cities. Cruising along at 70+ then all of a sudden everybody hits their breaks HARD, we come to a complete stop, then inch along at 5 to 10mph for awhile, and then for seemingly no reason everyone just starts driving at a normal speed again. No accident or wreck, no emergency vehicles, no visible reason for having to come to a complete stop on the interstate. Why does that happen sometimes??

ELI5: What happens on a genetic level that makes inbreeding so problematic?

I'll preface this with saying I'm reading a lot of ASOIAF/GoT fanfiction at the moment and as with any feudal society the topic comes up.So. If I remember by biology lessons correctly we each get half our genetic material from our mother and half our father. Not perfectly evenly across all traits, some are under the domain of only one parent, like for example the genetic information that goes into having a penis being on the X chromosome of which you have only one if you are male - from your mother. Fun fact, huh (don't ask me for a source, I don't remember where I got it from please do correct me if I am wrong)? Point is, all that should mean to my limited understanding is that when siblings have children there are odds that their child would be an exact genetic copy of the relevant parent of these siblings. Yet somewhere in the process the genes at the very least become a lot more prone to defects, like the infamous Habsburg chin and less tangible effects like a decline in intelligence, if not breaking entirely?With kids among cousins the odds are simply more in favour of the kid not being fucked up but with the common ancestors being only a single generation further away they are still prominent.So what happens at a genetic level to make these flaws and defects happen? Why doesn't the combination of two strings of genetic material into a single being work out the same way like with any other child because the parents are too closely related and that somehow clashes? How does it clash?

The sound mixing on Celebrity Bear Hunt is horrible.

It does from barely audible muffled speaking to deafening musical stings every other shot. Why are there not standards in place for sound mixing on these shows? The talking head and narration are fine mostly so I can forgive the action talking a pass but the music editing is SO loud.

Why did bicycles start off with the penny farthing design? It seems counterintuitive, and the regular modern bicycle design seems to me to make the most sense. Two wheels of equal sizes. Penny farthings look difficult to grasp and work, and you would think engineers would have begun with the simplest design.

ELI5: Why do car manufacturers share certain models and sell each others cars rebranded?

I understand collaboration might help them reduce r&d and production costs. One thing is to share systems like the power train, chassis platforms, etc, But why do they go to the extreme of sharing the whole car and simply change the branding? I'm talking about cars like the Mazda 2=Toyota Yaris=Scion iA or Nissan frontier=Suzuki equator.Seems counterintuitive for dealerships to have to support a vehicle developed by a different OEM. Also seems like it could really hurt or benefit a brand reputation depending on the reliability of the car being shared.

CC do not match the audio?

I am hard of hearing so I tend to have subtitles/cc on whenever I am watching something. I watch a lot of anime, although I normally tend to watch it subbed, so maybe this is the same for other dubs?I began watching the original naruto in English and for the entire first season the cc was fine. But I start on season 2, and the captions are atrociously wrong. It felt more like they were summarizing what the characters were saying instead of actually captioning it. At one point, a character speaks in a very quiet voice and the captions say "Naruto...." when she was clearly whispering a full sentence. I thought maybe the cc and subtitles for the show got mixed up, and switched between them. Not only is that the not case, but the cc do not even follow the Japanese script. (From what I saw)I am just very confused and frustrated and was wondering if anyone else was having this issue? I was really enjoying myself but it's very frustrating to not be able to fully understand what's going on in it.
