I keep seeing warnings about companies like Meta collecting our data, with people acting like it's something we should be seriously worried about. But what exactly is this data, and what are they doing with it that’s so bad?If it’s just things like browsing habits, location, or the stuff we like and comment on, then so what? If they want to serve me targeted ads, that’s fine. But how does this actually hurt me? What’s the real-world negative impact of them having this information?I feel like this fear has just become normalised without much explanation. So, what am I missing?

Service / Plan Question - Insight for Increased Pricing March 2025

SO. Netflix is raising their Standard streaming plan from $15.49 to $17.99 next month. I logged in to see my options, because hey, I'm an early retiree and every dollar counts. ($2.50/month = $30/year, $60/year pre-tax! And since I plan to be alive awhile, that could be $1200 over the next 20 years. (Plan photo attached.)I digress. There are actually two Standard plans, one with ads, one without. (Both 1080, both HD, both stream to 3+ devices at once.) When I called to discuss plans with Netflix, I got a lengthy response that the Standard plan without ads (at $7.99 month, which is more than half the cost of the Upgraded Standard) "has limited availability of movies and shows", although still full HD. When I asked where the list might be of limited movies and shows so I could decide...Netflix told me they just don't have one. So how do I find out I ask..? Agent told me to switch to the new plan and then I need to look for a "lock" symbol on various movies and shows, those won't be available. Really? In 2025, with all the technology we have, including AI, this is how to compare plans?Any insight?

Can I turn off the game nonsense?

This is becoming a useability issue. The first page is all ads for daft mobile games I 100% have no interest in. There must be a way to say "No thanks Netflix, just show me the shows?". How would I achieve this? I just dont have the patience for this nonsense and its getting harder to work out what new content is available.

Netflix white subtitles

Okay so, I’m new to Netflix and have recently started watching some anime, but I’ve noticed that the subtitles are always white. They often blend into the background, making them difficult to read. This is especially frustrating since I’m watching with the original Japanese audio.Is there any way to change the subtitle color on Netflix? I know my phone’s caption settings use a black border, and that appears on some shows, but not the ones I want to watch.

Sorry, i’m not an english speaker so I wasn’t sure how to properly formulate my question.My point is, when i look for advice to clean online it often come down to mixing baking soda and white vinegar, i don’t know much about chemistry, but doesn’t it make a neutral solution ? Would a clearly acidic or basic solution be more efficient for cleaning than a neutral one ? Thank you.

YSK your billing address is not always the same as your shipping address when ordering online or through phone.

Why YSK: I work as an e-commerce salesman for a company selling industrial supply. I can't begin to tell you how many times a day that I input peoples' addresses through our credit card processor only for it to be declined because the address the customer told me was both their billing AND shipping address is incorrect. This eventually leads to an unnecessary call to the bank and/or a loss of sale / purchase which eats up effort and time for both parties involved.The billing address is not always your address you literally receive bills to, which can either be your residence or your business. The billing address is the address that you registered on your account when you signed up for the credit card you're using. If you're a business and have a business card, this is often times the business address you registered with that card; for a personal card, it's often the address of your residence.The billing and shipping addresses most of the time indeed are the same, but after nearly a decade of working in e-commerce processing payments and talking to customers directly, most seem to assume that the billing address is the address that we would send the hard copy of a bill or invoice if it were to be sent by mail, which is obviously not the case.The next time you order something online and get an error at checkout or have your card declined and you don't know why, make sure at the very least the ZIP code you enter for the billing address matches the address registered on your card's account. This will save not only you but the business you're dealing with the time and effort.

Seems Mario's brother has scared insurance companies to the point where they're straight up lying to patients about this. I'm a doctor and over the last two weeks have received so many patient messages saying their pharmacy told them they can't pick up their medication because their doctor needs to authorize it.Why YSK: My authorization is the prescription. That's it. When I send a prescription to a pharmacy, that is authorizing it to be dispensed. However, insurance companies can refuse to pay for it until one of their blood-sucking leeches doctors authorizes payment. In order to do that, your treating doctor has to fill out a bunch of paperwork and convince your insurance that the medication should be paid. But to be very clear, this is the insurance that needs to authorize it, not your doctor.I've had to explain this to a dozen angry patients who are wondering why I'm not authorizing the medication I told them I'm prescribing to them.

ELI5: After brain intensive activities, what happened in the brain that causes us want to rest/zone out despite body-wise not yet tired?

Like academic studying, office job working, after some time we get numb and just want to zone and for a while, though at the same time our body isn't necessarily tired. What happened in the brain (like biology-wise, chemistry-wise) that causes this, and why does zoning out for a while can reverse this?

American Murder : Gabby Petito Netflix

I just finished watching the Netflix series about this and omg how sad and shocking. These documentaries really put me off relationships these days and make me so skeptical about how people truly are and just what we see online. It’s very true that sometimes the people that seem the happiest online are often the saddest sometimes and with the most skeletons. I personally know many couples who would constantly post how in love they are and suddenly the very next day decide to divorce. And others who never post about one another but live a very happy and quiet life.Anyway this whole case was so sad and she seemed like such a bright and bubbly girl. One thing though, I need the caveat before I say it is that I’m not blaming her parents but just I know if it were me in that situation and I had said those things to my parents about him they absolutely would expect me to come back to them and would not be happy about me continuing. I know everyone has different parenting styles but me coming from an Asian family - they wouldn’t be ok with some of the things the parents already knew.That guy seemed really creepy but it’s the kind of creepy that isn’t obvious which makes it more scary and I do wonder just how involved their parents were. None of this matters anymore I guess, sadly she’s dead and I just hope everyone (men and women) are all careful of the kind of people they get involved with. It’s a scary world out there and relationships don’t seem to be what they were. Not saying everyone is a killer, just that…. I think it’s really hard these days
